About 10 years ago one of my regular playing partners passed out during the club championship during the first week of August here in East Texas, last day of 3 of sweltering heat, on the 17th hole. He was near the lead as the day started but as the back nine progressed he went down hill. Said he was feeling fine but he was losing his game. On 17 while driving his cart he just passed out, and fell out of the moving cart in the middle of the fairway. They had to call EMS, and they drove down the fairway to come get him. He was mid 50s at the time, and ever since he is very careful in the heat about hydration, etc.,

Playing a qualifier in the DFW area next week in Garland, weatherunderground.com says its 107 there right now..... The forcast is for some cooling, then warming up again. It says it will be a chilly 98 for the high when I'm supposed to play. Then I come home to play our club championship for 3 days in similar tempretures. I hope I can do 4 days in a row. Why we play the club championship during the hottest time of the year in Texas baffles me. I guess they don't want to run into football and hunting season in the fall......

Last week bought a used one of these, head was totally clean as if it had not been played maybe one or two times: Someone had lengthened it to 38 inches, and put a SS Zenergy 3.0 grip on it with a counterweight. I've been using a longer putter for over a year mostly (a lot with a Spider Tour CB 38), and they all seem to be on the heavier side. This one since it was a stock 35 inches with an extension, plus the counterweight, makes the head feel lighter. I wasn't sure about the feel off the face, it was just so so, but in the shop I was rolling it nicely. First time on the practice green I thought, "this is going right back", but I gave it a second chance. Glad it did. On Saturday I put it in the bag in our member-member tournament. First day was a 2 man BB, I made more feet of putts in one round than I probably have in my 55 years of playing golf. I would guess 175 feet, 25 putts total, and that counts 3 from just off the green. Shot my career low round and my age, a 63, nine birdies, only one of which was a two putt..... Day two I didn't putt any different than normal, but not bad. I think I will keep it in the bag for a while.

I bought an R7 mini mostly to test, thinking I wouldn't like it, as my 3 wood was maybe my favorite club. After about 6 weeks, it is staying. I got it at 13.5 degrees, and went with the stock X flex shaft as the stiff seemed very loose to me, tried a couple others but like the stock X. I actually like to hit it off the turf a lot, it doesn't go as far as teed up, but just seems to go straight, I can hit it 240ish off the turf, kind of like a good 3 wood for me but overall will have less left to right dispersion. Teed up, how it strike it makes a big difference, a slight cut, and I mean slight, and it goes 240-250, If I turn it over just slightly, I have hit it 280+. It seems to be spin mostly, a slight draw seems to produce more driver like spin, so if I hit it higher but with lower spin it just carries and carries then also will roll out.

Just played our member-member championship this weekend. 2 days, day one straight up 2 man best ball, day 2 was scramble front 9 modified alternative shot on the back. We won the event gross total by one, just had to say I shot my career low round on the best ball. It wasn't from the tips but about 6,400 yards. But on the first day I shot -9 63, no gimmies either, my previous best on this course was 68. I was unconscious with my putter, probably made 175 feet of putts, 25 total, and that counts 3 from the fringe. Day two was back to normal, made nothing over 5-6 feet. Oh well, though I found something. .

I'm thinking of ordering one myself.

Texas is pro shop credit, I was just looking at the email they sent out. First in Sr. got $500, 2 tied for 2nd got $325, fourth got $100. Super Sr. first only got $250. Open division got $700 for first, paid out down to 7th. Entry fee was $325. But I guess the payout is better than a sleeve of balls, a pair of socks, or a bag of tees....

Played the West Texas Am this past weekend, senior division. Missed the cut by a few 77-76, just couldn't make anything over 5-6 feet.....so frustrating, 3 birdies in two days, a one footer, a two footer, and a two putt. But overall my putting was very stress free, almost all my 2 putts were almost gimme range at worst, many lip outs or stopping right next to the hole, speed control was very good. A few bad breaks, totally stymied twice right behind a tree and chipped out sideways, and got a nasty fried egg in a bunker with the green sloping away, but that was the result of a badly pulled PW into the wind..... Short game is very weak right now, for some reason have developed a bit of the chipping yips around the green since I came back from my bad back. Only one up and downs from near the green with anything other than a putter (and that was a bump and run with a 7 wood), but from 30-40 yards, hit some nice shots, almost holed out twice from that distance. Day two played with a guy I have paired up with in a two ball event before, very good player. He shot 67 with 5 birdies and an eagle. He has a very good short game and it one of the best putters I have played with in senior golf. He went on to win the senior divsion, birdied the last 3 holes on day 3 to win by one..... Next individual even with be state senior am qualifer, then club championship in a couple of weeks....

Stopped by my local Edwin Watts at lunch. While I was there, they unpacked and put these out on the floor. 9 total, and they still have the lefty CB.

One more old school trick, pickle juice. A few years ago I was playing in a tournament in central Texas in July with temps about 100 and sunny, felt ok during the round but afterwards cramps started. My playing partner wanted to go to Dairy Queen. We pulled in an I almost couldn't get out of the car as my legs really started to cramp. I barely managed to get into the DQ and my partner asked if they had any pickle juice. They did since they served burgers, so I downed only about a 1/4 cup and felt better in a minute or two. Take that for what it's worth....

I use it also sometimes instead of Liquid IV. Salt content of LMNT is much higher.

I use the sugar free Liquid IV, made with stevia. Or my old reliable, SaltStick Electrolyte Capsules, just take with water........ AMAZON - SaltStick Electrolyte Capsules with Vitamin D | Salt Pills with Electrolytes for Running, Endurance Sports Nutrition, Running Supplements
