I don’t necessarily disagree, but even if you broke it out by age group, I don’t think it would be that different. Maybe small discrepancies, that probably have more to do with muscle strength and explosiveness vs range of motion *for most.* It’s also the case that grip, wrist, and forearm strength is a MUCH MUCH more limiting factor for most golfers than their mobility. This vid does a great job at quantifying just how, or how not, mobile you need to be to make a tour level swing

I know this is a bit of a joke lol, but I don’t see anything in either video as contradictory…does it come across that way to you?
-
Link? I don’t think I’ve seen that video, but I can envision a version of that drill that makes sense with this motion as well…think it was in a video where they talk about the release, and show Rory’s arms at P5, and then fully released as if the body hadn’t rotated at all Edit: video I was thinking of for reference, 4:30-5:20 or so

Seems like a response to the “hold lag handle-draggers” and the “elbow pushing in and forward to tip the shaft behind you shallowers” - which gets ams thinking the hands have to lead coming into impact to get shaft lean Also the garden variety out-to-in slicers that pull the arms across the body to hit the ball, rather than using their body to turn

Which weight were you looking at? @JJgolfwrx is 💯 on the 130 gram weight…in the 100/115 DG Mid is a little different, very close to PX with a slightly softer tip. EI curve looks a lot like a KBS Tour

I didn’t realize young Rickie Fowler and Jim Furyk could have a swing baby, impressive! 😂 /s

Beginner golfer concerned with direction of lessons
CTgamer replied to cbrown1170's topic in Instruction & Academy
I’d love to hear more on the technical explanation? And also curious, how much you think the scoring is a result of how kids learned (by swinging big and fast) vs something else (e.g., a side effect of them learning young) It also seems like some of that has to do with what children are physically able to do/not vs adults… -Kids tend to be more flexible, they’re used to moving their body, and they don’t have the upper body strength to “muscle” the club with just their arms. -A lot of the adults I see aren’t used to moving their body, have lost a lot of flexibility, and can’t make contact with a swing anything close to “big and fast.” I’d be interested in any insights that can translate to adult coaching -
I’ve been there…at my best (around 15), I was a +4.5 index, could drop a mid sixties round without even thinking. After a bad car accident and a decade as a consultant sitting in a chair all day, it got to the point where I couldn’t break 80…missing driver off the planet, chipping yips, etc. It’s frustrating to feel like you’re going downhill. Or worse, still putting in the effort but don’t feel like you have anything to show for it. Sometimes you need to take time away…others it’s about finding a different facet of the game to enjoy. Deep dive on golf course architecture, work on different shots in the range without the pressure of putting a round together, get really into club design, whatever works for you. I studied fitting and coaching for the 15+ years when I couldn’t play the way I wanted to. About a year ago, I left consulting behind, blew up my whole life, and started work in golf as a fitter and coach. The game is always there for you, but not necessarily in the way you expect. That’s okay too 🍻 I’m nowhere near as experienced as some of the other coaches on WRX, but pm me and I’ll try to help, if that’s something you’re interested in. Best of luck 👍🏻

Definitely hear you on PX 6.0 - I’ve been fit into it so many times, but stepless shafts feel a little harsh to me. I don’t quite have the speed for X100 straight in (I’m 90 ss with 7i). But when I soft step it the handle gets that touch softer, so always felt like I could have the right stiffness or the right profile/feel but not both with X100 - DG Mid solved that problem, and soft stepped once they feel pretty dang close to std PX 6.0 in transition
-
Have a few range sessions under the belt…impressions match the initial waggle test: -Compared to standard DG, trajectory is higher but a little more consistent (std DG can be quite low or quite high depending on my release, whereas Mid comes out in a much more consistent window) -I tend to have a shorter swing and aggressive transition, Mid significantly reduces variance in my starting lines, whereas std X1 sometimes goes on a personal journey in my transition and I wonder where it is -Mid feels stiffer in the handle and more active/faster in the tip section. Think a more linear Oban CT or KBS Tour. It’s much less exaggerated than any of the stiff handle soft tip shafts (Modus 130, Tour V, etc) -Despite Russ’ EI Area, DG Mid X100 ss1 doesn’t feel “too stiff” - overall “playing stiffness” feels similar to X1, PX 6.0, etc. -I would say it’s easier to work small finesse shots with DG Mid because of the softer tip, but std DG has a wider variety of shots that can be played because of how much release impacts ball flight (like, if you’re Tiger, you can launch one into the stratosphere or flight one almost on the ground - vs Mid those shots would be a little closer together with the same swing) Lastly, I stand by the best comparison being “DG and Oban CT had a baby” - this is a really good shaft for the player it fits. Similar flight to PX but much better feel. Less exaggerated/temperamental than Modus 130/Tour V. More controllable than std DG. More linear than Oban CT. I’m impressed 😅

As a side note, I suspect higher MOI club heads is part of why the “bowed wrist, side bend, rotate” boyz became popular - if it’s harder to turn the club head over, then build a swing with minimal face rotation…perhaps musings for a different thread
-
As many have said, I’ve found the MPF data super helpful but not for the MPF score itself…in my experience: -C dim and MOI have to match up with a golfer’s release pattern and timing. Too high and the head resists closing coming into impact and my hands have to compensate unnaturally. Too low and the face flips over too quickly and/or is too unstable on mishits. -Actual vcog has to match up with AoA - generally higher for steeper attack angles, and lower for shallower ones. -From there, I’ll take as much ball speed retention and spin consistency across the face as I can get. But the data points that Maltby is measuring aren’t a case where “more is always better.” You need to find the matchups that work for your swing - it’s why golfers consistently find they’ll hit a certain iron better that, “on paper”, maybe isn’t a good fit for their game. Not every plus handicap needs a blade and not every 20 handicap needs a game improvement iron

Dry Swingweight is ALWAYS Heavier than Built Swingweight... Help Needed
CTgamer replied to CKaneb's topic in WRX Club Techs
Just to confirm, your built swing weight is lighter than your dry fit swing weight? The title makes it seem like the opposite… But to your point, yes, common wisdom says built swing weight tends to be heavier if anything because of epoxy. Most common reason for the other way around is length of the dry fit being a touch longer than built (if the shaft isn’t fully seated, etc). Have you measured length for both the dry fit and built clubs? Lots of grip tape could change (really, “trick”) swing weight as well but it should be really minor -
Fair enough, this topic is by far the worst troll about majors 😂

New T100 finally arrived with DG Mid 130 X1, soft stepped once. Hopefully getting out today or tomorrow for some testing Waggle test echoes @Pnwpingi210 above…it still “feels” like a DG, handle is definitely more stable, and the tip feels faster through the release/impact zone. Std DG has that almost slow thump to the release feel and can seem “slow” if your timing isn’t good or don’t release it fully. DG Mid 130 definitely not as exaggerated as something like Modus 130, or even KBS Tour imo. “PX 6.0 + DG had a baby” wouldn’t be the worst description, but it might be closer to “Oban CT + DG”

Solid body players cavity with forgiveness/size screams ZXi7, maybe something like Mizuno jpx forged - if this gen T100 looks too small to your eye

I do this as well, all wedges are 35.5” - most manufacturers increase head weight as wedge loft increases, so the most obvious thing you might notice is heavier swing weights as the lofts increase (assuming the above is true for the wedge brand you ordered). If I’m in a situation where the extra length seems problematic for whatever reason, I’ve never had trouble just choking up, at which point it’s basically identical to a stock wedge. On certain chips and partials shots, the consistent length helps me simplify technique and think less about how far I’m swinging the club back and through. I wouldn’t overthink, ordering clubs long is the easiest thing to change if you try it and something doesn’t work
