  1. Played the MP64s for a bit, then switched to the MP4s, and have pretty much been playing them ever since (from 2012 or 13, I think). I did buy the MP18s, but didn't like them as much as the MP4s (and to be honest, I owned them during a bit of a golfing slump for me). of the MBs after the MP18s, I liked the MP20s (or 120s here) the most, and may one day pick up a set. Of the older irons, the MS-11 mentioned by @NRJyzr are fine irons, and very playable. They were very popular in Japan, demonstrated by the fact that the production run went on for a decade or so.
  2. It's tough to fit my clubs into my Zonda... Sorry, did I say Zonda? I meant Honda. Honda Freed. Gets three bags in easy, but laid a little diagonally. The new Honda Freed Crosstar looks like it could take four bags laid horizontally, but I'm still working on convincing the wife that we need another Honda Freed.
  3. Doesn't the estimated arrival time coincide with high tide in Hawaii? This was posted on the Japanese Yahoo! News. It appears to show the tsunami hitting somewhere on the Russian coast.
  4. There are a few differences between the 201s and the MS11s, the most obvious being the lack of a shaved topline on the MS201s. The muscle at the back is slightly different, with the MS201 muscle rising slightly towards the toe, but that's mostly cosmetic. The PW is, I think, a little less clunky in the MS201s than the MS11s, and I don't think the MS201s have the large amount of bounce that the MS-11s were famous for, but I don't have the means to check that. To be honest, I've never actually thought of them as having the same pedigree, probably because of the absence of the shaved topline, which is instantly noticeable.
  5. Welcome to the rabbit hole. There are so many clubs I haven't hit that makes my list fairly meaningless, but I'm a big fan of Eighties-Nineties Mizunos, so I'll list my top three of those, then three other irons that I really like. Mizuno: 1) TP Originals (MS-4 in the US market) 2) "Directed by T Ohara" (limited to 100 sets) 3) MS-201 (the Kishigawa Ryoken model) Others: 1) Mac Muirfield 20ths 2) Wilson FG-J8s (FG17s) 3) RAM Tour grinds The Mizuno Top Three I've listed in order, but of the others, I can't really say which is best. A lot depends on how I feel on the day. Right now, I've just put the RAMs in my vintage bag after a couple of days with the MS201s.
  6. Great discoveries: Fire, the wheel, writing systems, geometry, calculus, steam engines, electricity, antibiotics, DNA structure etc. etc. Not so great discoveries: the unforgivingness of the golf club hosel
  7. I've bought a few sets where I've had to weaken lofts to get them back to their original specs, and I do bend most of my irons upright to suit me. I've a few sets which I've either reshafted or extended; mostly 80s and 90s Mizunos, which come with the PW at 35", which is about 0.5" too short for me). If it's an iron set I'm not going to play that much, I'll likely just regrip if necessary, check that the lofts are close enough to what they should be, and adjust the lie to my liking. I've had a couple of long irons that were 4° flat off the original spec, and I like about 2° upright. No way I am going to hit them well like that. But bending them 6° was a little nerve-wracking.
  8. Think these Mac International Edition irons were for the Japanese market, but they look identical to the Muirfields to me. And these are the R58s I had.
  9. MacGregor made quite a few sets for the Japanese market, including the MT Tourney R55, R58, and R65 irons from either the late Eighties or early Nineties. I had a set of the R58s, which are said to be Miura-forged, and they were pretty nice to hit, but the shafts were too short for me so I ended up selling them after playing them a few times. There were a few other sets made for the Japanese market, sometimes using the same blanks as the US market clubs and just restamping them, sometimes putting a new grind on them. For example, there was a Nicklaus Player of the Century limited edition irons (think there were woods as well), which you can goggle at over in this thread.
  10. Yep! I was going to say, his first mistake was going through Heathrow. And his second mistake was using BA. I don't fly back to the UK as much as I used to, but when I did, I always made a point of avoiding Heathrow AND British Airways. In fact, the last time I went back, in 2023, I decided to chance it and use BA. The fun started on the return journey. They decided to cancel my return flight to Tokyo (early morning departure) in the middle of the night a few hours before the flight. I especially enjoyed dragging my sorry arse and luggage all the way across London to Heathrow only to find that I had been put on a LCC flight to Korea departing over 12 hours later than my original return flight. And no reason was ever given for the cancellation.
  11. buying or selling? I sort of regret buying these because they look likely to give my MP4s a good run for their money.
  12. In Sunday's pictures, I loved the sequence of these two photos: I'm guessing Greg visited the whisky tent between those two photos...😉
  13. A couple of pictures of the VR blades. They are in such good shape. I hit them at the range to today. and while I could just about get away with using the X100s, I think I would be better off with a different shaft in these. Problem is, what?
  14. So, if I'm reading this right, your son and grandson beat you for the second straight time? /jk, glad to hear you're healing well.
  15. Yes, I'm considering that. I hit them alright in the net, so I may keep the shafts, but probably cut of the grips, pull the shafts, and reshaft with something a little lighter. I'm quite into the old NSPRO 1015 shafts at the moment. Got two sets shafted up with 1015S, and one with 1015X, and I think I prefer the S over the X.
