  1. St Andrews mid June 2026. Don't have the full itinerary yet but we'll be on the Ballot for TOC in August and going even if we don't hit. Its our 3rd trip in the last 5 years and so far the only big ticket time booked is Carnoustie Championship. The other must plays for us is Crail Balcomie, Lundin and Panmure. After that I'm fairly certain that we'll play Dumbarnie, Levin and might squeeze in Kingsbarns. Lucky to have played KB twice but the cost is nuts (it was for Carnoustie as well but we paid it- $550 USD per guy) KB probably about the same.
  2. I guess my Grateful Dead putter cover will give me away a little bit but I totally get the actual smoke part. People that don't like smelling pot smoke will also be bothered by cigarette and cigar smoking. There are so many ways to imbibe now that don't include smoking that its easy to not annoy others. On the other hand, all the Judge Judy nonsense in this thread is equally annoying. I don't have any large hole in my golfing soul that only cannabis can fill. Most of the time its just for fun and no different than a beer at the turn.
  3. Like this thread. Mainly because i have one son in law who finally beat me this spring. He's crazy long but wild so i usually get him on course management and short game. On family vacation last week I had a terrible round and he got me again by one stroke. That was Monday's game and the next was Thursday. he started talking smack (playfully but it hit my ear differently) Tuesday and Wednesday and I decided then and there that he wouldn't beat me again. I played smart and grinded to beat him on the front 9 by 6 strokes and ended up playing pretty even on the back. I didn't say anything other than good game and thanks but inside i was like thanks for the motivation kid. It was very satisfying.
  4. Late to this thread because I was on the cape last week for vacation and played Captains Port course as well as Highland Links. Loved both for totally different reasons... The Captains was in great shape and the greens were rolling true. Open to the public but the conditions were like a private club. Highland Links I booked the time based on the pictures alone. Lucky enough to play in Scotland a few times and this was the closest to Links golf I've ever seen in the states. Ocean views, wind kicking up and tall grass...unpredictable roll outs in the fairway...it was heaven. Both are in the Rota for future Cape trips.
  5. Links golf is the shyte...OP needs to take a big whiff.
  6. All good stuff here. I load up on bananas, Gatorade and water the day before. Do the same day of...and during the round same and no alcohol. Cooling towels as well. I take blood pressure medication and if its hot- I don't on the day I play. Had a round last year when I felt dizzy and almost passed out because my BP dropped..
  7. Greenport is North Fork so in that area is Island's End GC on the main road going East. A few holes with Sound views. There is also Cherry Creek Links with 2 18 hole courses in Riverhead. They have a true par 6 on one. No water views other than ponds. Indian Island is a fun county course- 18 holes with 9 on the Peconic Bay and 9 more parkland style also in Riverhead. If you have high end club connections your one crazy option on the North Fork could be Friar's Head in Baiting Hollow. I want to play that bad and haven't been able to weasel myself on yet. South Fork has the biggies like Shinnecock, National GL, Sebonack and Atlantic. All private- all sexy. If you don't mind an annoying and traffic delayed drive through the Hamptons try Montauk Downs all the way out. NY State course like Bethpage. Beautiful with some ocean views and wind wind wind. My favorite course that I never play because the drive in the summer sucks.
