  1. The old Dunhill Cup at St Andrews used to use what they called “medal match play”. It was a 3 man team knockout competition. So, three 1 v 1 games, each decided by the lowest score. You could have six 1 v1 games each decided by the lowest net score to get the team element, at the same time each player has a score for each round for the individual medal element. (Personally, I’d do it using Stableford as that is a bit more forgiving and keeps everyone in the game which keeps it fun).
  2. There are very few alternatives where they can get a course that’s long enough, which has enough space for practice areas and spectator facilities, which has the accommodation and transport links and which will generate similar spectator numbers to RGC. And where the membership/owners will accept the disruption that an event will impose on them!
  3. Definitely the right decision. The haar was starting to get problematic on Saturday and we heard early on that the forecast was poorer on Sunday. Around 10 on Saturday evening you could see the fog rolling in over Edinburgh and it was definitely getting unpleasant on Sunday evening as we marshals had to wait on prize giving finishing. And now, Monday morning, it’s pishing down!
