  2. Someone stated that PING is moving manufacturing to Vietnam and the S259 would be next year. Unsure if that's accurate or not but you're right...you cannot get the S159 reliably from anywhere. All my retailers have 2 or 3 s159 wedges. Even these huge online retailers like Carls and TGW are nearly out of inventory. I can't imagine PING would have no wedges at the retail level until next spring. ...but who knows.
  3. There are 1-2 people at PING tasked with the cavity design of this better player's iron. They are in the marketing and design team and they work closely with the engineering dept. ....they should be fired. And that cavity design aesthetic was approved by someone else, or by committee. I would have loved to have been in that room when someone in charge said "Approved! this is what the new i240 are going to look like." so I can wrap my head around that moment. PING, if you're reading this thread, you know who this was. Why do they have a job? Must be the same dept that designs their Garanimal clothing
  4. you misread my post. I was claiming that the 770 does not look messy. (And just about every better player I know right now is playing zx7/zxi7. If you're not seeing them out in the field I don't know what to say. They've been in the final pairing of every tournament this year on tour, including today in the bag of Li today at the Open, and winning the Evian Masters last week, and the U.S. Open, etc. etc. /off topic)
  5. Let's hope after Scheffler wins today, his wife doesn't roll out in that same straw hat she wears it every tournament, and her little bopeep outfit. Has she ever been seen in public without that hat?
  6. The i230 cavity piece is aluminum, not plastic. On golf clubs minimalism is the point, not cluttered. Throughout the industry you'll see that better players prefer less nonsense. Mizuno blades, the new Titleist T250 design, and as the years go on you'll see Taylor made smoothing out the back of their 770s and 790s. But you'll see the super game improvement 30 handicapper irons get more and more badges and logos. (Stealth, G440, and paradym irons for example. Messy) And a goal of the 240 was to spin a little bit less. It's not low spin by any measure, but they do spin 200 RPM less than the i230.
  7. I'm here to report back after another i240 session. I hit the i240 last week at disliked the feel and commented about it here with some level of intensity. I was off base with my description. But I went back on Friday (yesterday) and someone else was hitting them, so when they took a break I hit them again, and I think I get it. They have a unique feel, but this time I didn't hate them. (granted I was button'ing them), but the have a certain solid feel which I will no longer describe as bad. Definitely cast but actually a solid thump. And as I said last time, they are gorgeous at address and as someone who can overcook a draw, they don't draw excessively when I do my bad thing.
  8. Yeah PING castings CAN feel good. I think the iBlades felt fantastic. Mizuno will always feel like Mizuno and just different - that a gooey forged feel. I thought the i230 felt decent. These do not and I don't know why they are so different - even acoustically - from the i230 because they have an elastomer insert and are likely the same casting material. ...just goes to show what these club designers are up against. I've started to think that these YouTube golf influencers have been told by PING to mention the softness, because it seems scripted. A few talk about how great the carbon looks, and I don't think anyone likes the carbon - again a bit scripted. They performed well - I'll leave it on that optimistic note.
  9. In every YouTube review I noticed the same clacky sound. So I went in and hit them in person. How anyone thinks these feel good is beyond me. PING casting CAN feel good. These are the worst feeling ping-i series iron I've testing, and that includes everything back to the i20/i25. ...add in the cavity decoration and it's a hard-pass. (And I'm a PING guy - see my sig)

  13. There are 12 of them sitting in the back of my local golf retailer waiting for release date - complete with yellow sweater knit headcovers. $500 - Pretty much the dumbest parting with money I can come up with. Re-confirms my refrain that Callaway is a marketing company first and a serious golf company second. If they had handed me one for free I'd hand it right back.
