  1. Sorry to resurrect an old topic that maybe should be left to die in peace - but.... I've read a few posts on the "DIY tune up"/line test and done it a few times at a local range, and it seems like there's a possible caveat: The line should give you an idea of lie IF the ball with the line is actually aligned properly with the hitting surface and the direction you're swinging. The line on the ball would need to be perpendicular to the ground and the ball needs to be pointed down the target line though there's probably some margin for error in both cases. Eyeballing this on the driving range (while also trying to make sure nobody notices you're marking up the driving range balls) is not exact. It's a cheap and relatively easy way for most of us to get an idea though. It would be interesting to do this on a Trackman and see how dynamic lie correlates to the line test.
