  1. I recently purchased a completely new bag...minus wedges that are still to come. My old bag was over 20 years old, so we were in a similar situation. The driver shaft might be my favorite new purchase, with my fairways right behind them, when comparing to my old clubs. The shaft (plus new driver) just feels so great when it loads and I can feel so much more effortless power and speed. My carry numbers are now further than my previous rollout numbers which has been fun for my playing partners, lol. The fairway woods have been an absolute game changer in terms of my ability to go for par 5's in 2, which has never been an option before. It's been fun waiting for greens to clear from over 200 out and then delivering despite ribbing from my playing partners. I got the Ping G440 Max 4 and 7 woods and they are so consistent, forgiving, and long. They weren't the absolute longest I tested, but I was able to stripe it down the middle on repeat with them which wasn't something I was able to do with any other FW I tested. The rest of my bag saw small gains compared to my old clubs but nothing spectacular. It has been a fun few months trying to rethink my course strategy as my approach distances are so much different than what they used to be as I'm continually playing from different spots on the course compared to my recent past. Enjoy the journey...I sure have.
  2. As a follow-up, I played my TP5x round and I just don't know what to think. I was pounding the ball with the driver and my numbers show that I consistently hit it further than the Maxfli, though the Maxfli would be the second longest ball I've ever hit so it's no slouch. For the irons, I also seem to hit the TP5x a good 5-10 yards further which led me to overshoot greens a few times which completely baffled me. Maxfli's have really good distance with the irons but the TP5x just seems to have another gear. With all that in mind, you'd think it would be a no brainer to go with the Taylormade, but my 2 lowest rounds, by far, were the Maxfli's. My short game was terrible with the TP5x. I cannot imagine the actual ball attributes contribute to that, but I've played far better than I ever have with my chipping and putting with the Maxfli's. I would assume it's user error with the TP5x, but at this point, after 3 rounds with each, it's enough of a trend to make me believe there's something to it. Unless something changes as I finish out my box of TM's, I think I'm going to go with the Maxfli due to the price and my low scores. I do wish I could bottle up the extra driver distance into that ball considering I hit 3 drives 300+ in my last round. For context, I had 1 total all of last season.
  3. I've noticed the same. I've been going back and forth between the Maxfli X and the TP5x. Last round was with the Maxfli and every iron shot ended up just past or well behind the pitch mark. I also had two mammoth drives that I didn't realize I was capable of that had my playing partners shaking their heads. One was so far that I thought I lost my ball until one of my buddies found it on the fairway a good 30 yards ahead of where I was looking, lol. I'm going out this weekend with the TP5x and giving it one last chance, but I'm leaning towards the Maxfli due to the similar characteristics and cheaper price tag. I will say, I prefer the iron flight with the TP5x (seems to go slightly higher and a bit straighter) a bit more but the end results are effectively the same and I'm really pleased with both.
