When to push against the ground?
sundaypins replied to unskinnybop99's topic in Instruction & Academy
We always move against, so we can extend from, the ground. Move early, extend late. -
Beginner golfer concerned with direction of lessons
sundaypins replied to cbrown1170's topic in Instruction & Academy
To be perfectly honest in return both lesson reviews were horrible in my opinion, not only in what was being conveyed during the lesson but more importantly you're not even close to being able to engage any of that material fundamentally or physically this soon. I have to stop. -

Trail hip not extending enough while leg retaining as much knee flex as possible, not good, it's pushing you too far forward and club is feeling lonely being left behind.

The dog days of summer are in full bloom, you'll be back on the sweet spot come August 12th.

Plane seeking is not all it's cracked up to be, many players don't want to know where their club is up top over knowing how their body is, but if forced to seek and stay on a 'functional plane' sticking an alignment stick into the end of a club and tracing the baseline might get you going in the right direction.

Sounds like Smaug is a Hogan fan. -
How is my terrible swing looking lately?
sundaypins replied to Rdailey9108's topic in Instruction & Academy
You can swing being bent over a little more than what might be commonly advised, it's a choice. Swinging back using a short club which seeks a route above your spine then swinging back underneath your spine allows sensing the minimal variance allowed in that cramped space. It takes maybe 10 minutes to sense and trap. -
Bands aids not a better choice over a simple roll of 1" Johnson and Johnson white medical bandage tape, wrap around 1-2 times then go pound some more dirt.

Huge discrepancy in chipping advice. Mickelson/Sieckmann
sundaypins replied to TheCityGame's topic in Instruction & Academy
We know Sieckmann's short game work acknowledges gravity-assist coming into ball, does Mickelson acknowledge as well? -
The tribal hunter's task of spearing food efficiently so the tribe wouldn't starve was not made any easier by seeing his reflection in a smooth pool of water learning how to throw a spear effectively. I'm guessing the Chief would have agreed, if you're eating it was successful.

Thanks to @getitdaily mirror work is bunk.

Right Hand, Right Eye Dominant Golfers

Right handed, left eye dominant. Known for a long time, asked an optometrist long ago. -

It isn't moving relevant to ground but it's moving relative to sensory process. -
Low launching long irons with low spin
sundaypins replied to UAdamz's topic in Instruction & Academy
It should by not causing a height loss relative to ground that has to be restored. When working on back swing would recommend hitting the ball as long as possible, not yards, but staying on the ball as long as possible. -
Interfering with my comment's momentum is similar to interfering with a swing's momentum when not leaving it alone. 🙂

Always a nice bonus when momentum is left alone.

@BigManSlim Make sure trying the Bobby Jones drill is on your to do list. Being that cramped and close to your work will FORCE a body doing a few things it may not have experienced before. What Beck accomplishes starting the return swing with the lower body, which we all do, while working himself out from underneath the club is he doesn't stall very much to do so- just a little but given his stance width and hand proximity he does a great job with it. If you get good at this drill you'll probably start setting your hands out just a little farther from you thereby making what was becoming easier easy but better yet, sensed and now owned.

Until you stop moving your head and looking at the club you'll confront issues. Until face on posted maybe video and practice blind folded swing, or with closed eyes, or a completely dark room, or have someone hold that green alignment stick on the trail side of head- anything to stop doing that. Your brain knows where you are, where the club is, and where the ball is so you're already triangulated. Components of a swing need to be sensed first, examined for quality second.

Hitting at the ball instead of hitting into the finish. In other words, stalling out and not finishing. So, pretty standard fix if you can find someone who knows how to get you moving properly through the ball and not at it.

Nice!

Wrist and hand strength has not much to do with late or early off the ball. It's more sequence related- those moving everything at once will tend to set later, and those emphasizing a hand start will tend to set earlier than the other. The former is more connected for later loading and the latter better load earlier avoiding the risk of disconnecting. But as always, it depends, but is a start at defining.

If Jones Jr. gave a picture to the sculptor from his personal collection for the project seeing that inspirational picture would be great. If it was during tournament play somewhere all the better. My searches lead nowhere, but an awesome figurine. Can almost smell hickory and leather instead of steel and plastic.
