Iron spin and holding greens

So I've got my new iron choice narrowed down to i20 or g25 (i25 are not for me). Hitting 7 irons of each, same shaft the g25 is at 6200-6500 and the i20 is 5200-5500 or so. Ball flight and distance are absolutely the same. Ball flight is pretty high which I like.

Now I REALLY liked the feel of the i20 but I'm a bit worried about the spin difference. As I sit, I've never been one to suck a ball back, usually hits bounces and stops quick which I like. Sadly I got rid of my irons (razr x non tour) so I can't compare.

What do you guys say about spin and holding greens?

Get the ones you liked better. Sounds like those are the i20s. As for spin, there will be shots where you could use that extra 1000 rpm and there will be shots where having 1000 rpm less would be optimal. Think in the end it's gonna pretty much even out . 1000 rpm isn't gonna be the difference between routinely holding greens and not doing so.

As mentioned above, take the ones that you like the best. I would go with whatever reacted better with the mishits than the other. You don't have to worry about spin if you have your distances. I switch from the Callaway Razors to the G25 and I have notice that I can go for flags because my balls don't have 8-10 yards roll out anymore. So, for me, the extra spin help me nail down my distances without the rollout which is funny because I actually hit my G25 longer than the Razr X. However, I will never spin a ball back so I guess to me it would come down to which ones will still perform when my swing is not completely in sync.

There are more factors at play here than just spin, OP.

If you're launching it a bit higher and the ball's coming down pretty steep, you can get away with less spin. If you don't hit the ball too high and the flight is too flat, you could really see some problems with only 5000 RPMs of spin.

With that being said, course conditions play a factor here as well. If you play a course with pretty soft greens, I wouldn't imagine that you'd have a problem. On the other hand, if you frequent a course with firm/fast greens, those extra RPMs of spin are going to be crucial to holding greens.

What kind of ball do you play? That's going to have an impact as well.

[/quote]Have to agree here. Less dimples, higher flight. Higher flight, deeper angle of decent. For me, I don't play urethane balls because I hit 2 piece balls higher and don't roll on the greens. Saves me money too! lol Or maybe you need a urethane ball to spin more. Try them out. Also, shaft could help. Lower kick point shaft, more spin?

Thanks for the advice! I generally use pentas, the old TM tour burner tp, or z-stars so all spin alright. I hit the ball quite high with my old clubs and on the monitor was with these clubs as well.
