Something New - Rose and Fire Ballistic Headcover Review

I've been trying to get away from OEM headcovers for a while now. Cleans up the look of your bag, plus I don't really like being a walking billboard (even though I love my Mizuno clubs).

 

I've been using Illiac knit headcovers for my two hybrids and I'm happy with them but I really didn't want more knit covers in the bag. So I've been debating over which direction to go for my driver and 3 wood. Options were the same that everyone else considers: Stitch, Seamus, Cru etc.... To be honest, I don't love the look and shape of leather headcovers so I decided against Stitch and Cru. I was 99% set on Seamus and had two picked out, but eventually I backed out - I was hesitant to drop 100+ dollars on a product I wasn't positive that I'd love (as I had a few concerns which I don't need to go into here). So I ended up with a surprise winner, Rose and Fire's ballistic headcovers.

 

Thought process:

- Black matches with anything, and I'm most likely to end up with black/white color combinations in the future if I change the bag. So these will go with anything.

- I have a ballistic Tumi briefcase that's about 3 years old that looks exactly the same as it did on the day I bought it. Love this material. It's basically wear proof and isn't really subject to changes in trends.

- It's something different, but not too flashy and "matchy".

 

They came in this week and my initial impression is that they're very high quality. The inside is like a thick, fuzzy blanket, all wrapped in the ballistic material. The fit is snug, you have to give it a slight pull to get it over the widest sections of the driver/fairway but nothing too much - enough to let you know they won't be flying off on their own and left at the tee box. With the ballistic material, I can't see them stretching out and getting loose either, but we will see. The grab handle at the top is the best part, you can pull them off with almost no effort.

 

Rose and Fire have a bunch of other material options. The ones that look like jeans don't really appeal to me but the others are really cool and different, especially the camo ones if you are into that. It'd be cool if they offered the ballistic in different colors, ie royal blue or navy or red.

 

The zippered pockets are a cool touch that adds a bit more functionality. Somewhere to put some extra ball markers, tees or a few bills.

Looks great. Ballistic material is cool. Seems it would be a natural to be included with the Big Bertha driver...

They look pretty good and should be very durable. I am not sure why anyone would need a "tee storage pocket" in a head cover.

I have been looking for a 3w cover and saw these. I really like the looks of the waxed canvas/leather. Only thing that turns me off is the big logo tag right on top. Wish that was a little more understated or on the bottom.

Just checked that one out, really nice. Probably the coolest one they make.

That is the only thing I don't like about them, zippers or anything metal , on my headcovers. Looks good though!

I have one for an S2 driver - just checked and it fit in the pocket just fine. Unfortunately it sorta ends up taking away from the "give" needed to slide it over the clubhead, so I couldn't get it to fit on the club with the wrench in the pocket. Might have worked if I really yanked on it but I didn't want to try it. Good idea though.

I'm probably going to stick my ball markers in mine since they always seem to get lost in my bag.

Thanks man. Yeah, I just don't think a Seamus cover or something leather would go that well. These are a little safe but what I was looking for.

I LOVE the look of Seamus' stuff but it just wasn't what I was looking for.

Sorry, not my fav....has to much of a long Oven Mitt look on the bag minus the thumb. Zipper to me is a waste and adds to the overall cost. I did go to the site and the two tone leather version looked the best to me.

I went with the fabric style Illac covers with leather trim....washable and not so stiff looking like the leather one or these.

But if the OP like em, great....have to love the choices out there.

How have these held up over time? And are they good about not falling off primarily during walking rounds?

Glad to see someone has been able to recycle clothes from the 80's.

Every purchase comes with a box of Marlboro Menthols, Hair spray and black mascara.

Wonder if they get recycle tax credits for being "green".

I don't walk all that much but they've held up perfectly fine. With the ballistic material I wouldn't expect much wear, like I said my Tumi briefcase looks brand new after a few years.

Currently only using the driver cover, mainly because I really like the function and feel of the CB5 fairway cover.
