? for Golf Town (Canadian) experts...re: gift cards...update

mkp

Recommended Posts

I've accumulated a number of Golf Town giftcards between xmas and bday gifts. I went to use some this weekend (online...as I live 7+hrs away from nearest store)...and they only allow you to use one giftcard per transaction? Anyone know if I phone in a order , I'd be able to use more than one? Nowhere on their website was the only 1 giftcard use stated....other than at checkout.

I've emailed customer service regarding this...but haven't heard back yet (closed for long weekend I assume). Any help/guidance is greatly appreciated.

Maybe someone with personal experience will respond, but here's my take:

I can see the on-line order system isn't set to accept more than one card number at a time. As you say, there is nothing on the Gift Card section of the site or elsewhere that says only one card per transaction (unless there is something in fine print on your cards?).

So, since you already sent an email, I suggest you wait a couple of days for it to get reviewed and a reply sent. If no reply or the answer is no, then phone them and if you get nowhere, ask for a manager. However in this market, I'd be astounded if you wanted to combine cards to buy a new driver, irons or such that they would say no.

My argument would be (if needed) that they already have the money for the cards, how you choose to spend it should be up to you. in fact, even if the fine print was on the cards- one at a time- I'd still push the envelope if your family bought them on-line for you. Since nothing on the site says you can't use more than one, your family bought them as affordable gifts to be combined towards a major purchase (one presumes).

Ya you can only use one happened to a buddy of mine it sucks. I am not sure if you can call and order from your nearest store or not. You may not get the free shipping if you do that.
I still feel if there is nothing on the card that says that I'd push it up the yin yang. It's their legal responsibility to place any limits in writing. ("by buying this card you agree etc..") Company policy is different than a written contract on purchase. Policy can be challenged.

Though I'm not a lawyer, I'd even go so far to say that the one card per purchase needs to be stated on the website even if it is on the cards, since they sell the cards on-line. If they are only bought in-store, a defense could be that the buyer has had the right to read the limits on the card prior to purchase.

I'd be interested to know if there is a limitation written on the actual card and how this turns out.

Nothing written on the the POS card hanger...same info. on the back of actual card (see pic) I was planning to use the cards towards a major purchase, at first a new bag...but now leaning towards a putter. Had I known of the missing fine print, I'd never have asked for them. As others have stated...it should be stated somewhere obvious (not just fine print). The gift cards are only available in $25-$100 denominations.
I'll wait and see if I get a reply tomorrow....golf season still months away :( , so I'm not in a real hurry to spend em anyway. I'm more annoyed than anything else.

I have used multiple cards at once at the store. (Dartmouth N.S) This must be an online thing as mentioned. I do feel the cards are as good as the cash that was use to purchase the gift card. I still might call my order in to GTown. They would be able to answer your question quickly. (hopefully)

Thanks for the picture. With respect, it's not a "POS" card hanger, or limit the use by fine print. IMO it's your get out of jail free card if you keep your cool when you talk to them. It doesn't limit one card per transaction, only that you need to "pay for the excess" over the balance on that card.

I'm not sure about GT, but I know this has come up about other golf stores that only had a spot for one card on their website. The other big box store could only accept one gift card for an online order but if you called them to make the order they could accept as many as you wanted. It just had to do with the online order form. You may be able to do this if you call GT directly.

Cobra Bio Cell+ w/ Rogue Black 110MSI
Callaway 2deep w/ Tour AD-DI 7x
X2Hot Pro Hybrid w/ Rogue Black 110MSI
Callaway Razr X Forg w/ Aldila RIP Tours

It's clearly just a limitation of the website itself, not any type of policy. If you call they will take your cards.
I think so too. And I don't want to sound like I was GT-bashing on my policy advice, as this was intended as if-needed advice. I found GT's Head Office thought outside the box to resolve a situation for a good customer (me) the one time my local store referred my request for product refund to them.

Though when I did a Google on it earlier today, I found an old post on their Facebook page and for the Q can one use more than one card for on-line store, the Answer was the just one card per on-line transaction. It would have been easy for that rep to do a bit of that outside-the-box thinking to add something like "to use more than one gift card, just give us a call. Or you use more than one card at our store locations. "

I suggest it would be smarter and good business to promote gift card sales for them to just put that on their website.

I got a reply from Golftown customer service...."At this time, unfortunately, our system does not not support multiple gift cards for the same transaction. We are diligently working on fixing this issue. In the meantime, you can combine the gift cards into one gift card for the total amount at your nearest gold town store then use it for your online purchase"

So my take is that they can't process more than gift cards even on phone in orders...i asked specifically about the phone in order in my original email to them. I did forget to mention the 7hr drive to the nearest golf town store though. I'm waiting on another reply. In my opinion...these "system limitations" NEED to be stated somewhere on the website (before checkout). I'm sure they don't wanna deter people from buying them....but I'm sure I wouldn't be the first p.o.'d customer because of it.

So mkp, what happened? Did you follow-up by phone and are they going to let customers combine cards by phone while they sort out the web-ordering?

I did end up calling since I wasn't really getting anywhere through email. End result... the gift card use limitation is being "fixed" on their next website update. They couldn't tell me when that will be (not surprised). The rep said that I'm not the first to bring up this concern (I didn't really think I would be). I guess the option of combining giftcards in-store is possible...but not for me, since the distance to the nearest store is so far.

The thought of sending the G.C's to someone that lives closer to a GT store was talked about (not with GT)...but I don't feel that I should have to involve more people + time +cost in an effort to spend my money.

Its news to me that you can use GT giftcards to purchase online. I tried this last year and it was a no go.
You can use 1 Golf Town GC per online transaction.

It has been that way for over a year for sure.
Oh I don't doubt you :) I tried it today and sure enough, I see the option to pay with gift card. I'm not sure how I missed it last time.

You may want to sell the gift cards to someone close to a GT....heck I may even be interested. Might be only only option vs driving all that way,

A co-worker of mine ended up taking my giftcards into a Golftown store and had them all put onto 1 card when he went to Winnipeg. I'm still kinda annoyed with this whole issue. Their 15th anniversary starts tomorrow...so we'll see if I can't find something to spend it on.

PS. :good: to those members that offered to help me with this issue
