"Dead" Titleist 913 D2

LinkLow

Recommended Posts

Been hitting the 913 since it came out, and in it's defense I've hit a LOT of balls with it.

8.5 degree loft, with a UST ATTAS T2 6x shaft

As of last weekend, driver has a really dead sound, and I lose roughly 30-40 yards and ball flight is much lower. I've still tried hitting it over the past few days and it just seems worse.

Just to confirm the head is the problem, I swapped my shaft into a friend's 913 head, same loft, and all is fine. Ball carries 290 or so like usual, and sounds "right".

Has anyone else had problems with their 913 yet? I've check for cracks and I can't find anything. The face is pretty worn in the middle, but mostly just tiny little scratches right in the center like you would see after hitting a lot of balls with it.

Titleist won't replace it under warranty since it doesn't still have THEIR shaft in it, so now I'm stuck.

****EDIT**** After speaking to a different Titleist rep, he said the first rep I talked to was wrong, and that they will warranty the head.

Couldn't you just snag a Titleist OEM shaft on eBay for cheap and then it would have one of their shafts in it, JAT.

Did you actually talk to Titleist yourself on this? I'm surprised they wouldn't look at a head because of a different shaft...those two things seem completely unrelated. If it's their policy I would ask about ways around that, such going through a dealer who could maybe lend you a Titleist shaft to put in it for warranty purposes?

In my experience Titleist is pretty good with customer service, I've never had a warranty issue but they went above and beyond to help me out once, though it did take a little gentle nudging on my part. So my advice is politely nudge and see what happens.

What I don't understand is this excuse of a different shaft should not hold water anymore

The reason they didn't honor it if the shaft was changed was due to heating the head broke down the epoxy within the head.
Drivers are no longer heated up now and are changed via an adapter.. Sounds like either you didn't talk to titleist directly or you didn't call

Not sure where you're going with this, but let me break it down.

I called Titleist FIRST, to ask if I could just take the driver to any of their dealers (example: the golf store I bought the driver at) to send it to them.

Then he asked why I wanted to send it in, and I gave him the rundown. Then he says they can't accept it for any kind of warranty since it wasn't still equipped with the original equipment.

No, there isn't any heat used except to pull the adapter off the old shaft. Shouldn't have anything to do with warranty of the head.

Let me clarify, this isn't a post bashing Titleist. I use everything of theirs except my putter, and will likely find another 913 to use. I was asking if anyone else had experienced problems with the 913.

Sorry; that is weak. Interchangeable heads should be warrantied on their own; shaft or no shaft. 2 years is 2 years, and after that, I get it. But dang; break a head and SOL? Not sure I agree with that.

14 Pings. Blueprints are incredibly good. Fetch is the most underrated putter on the market. Don't @ me.

The problem is you are trying to deal directly with Titleist. They are much more user friendly when you go through your dealer. Take it to the shop / store where you bought it, and ask them to pop a shaft in it and send it back for warranty repair. If it's cracked, you will have a new one in no time.

Glad this got worked out for you, I would have been shocked if Titleist didn't stand behind their product regardless of the shaft installed. The 913 D2 is a fantastic driver and one that should last a long time...

The same thing happened to my buddies 913 D2, but his cracked. He may have only hit 40-50 balls with it. Titleist told him they would not replace it due to mistreatment of driver, which is not true. The face is clean besides where it cracked. He even spoke to the manager and they declined to replace it. Are there any Titleist reps roaming this site? Maybe I can get him to post a pic of it.

I had two 913s that went dead. Could never find a crack but they literally went about 210 vs 280. My club called titleist. Basically said it was probably damaged in the course of play and I was SoL. Moved on. Love their irons wedges and putters, but feel they are trailing other OEMs in the woods category. Just my 02 cents.

My buddy said he will never buy another Titleist product again. I think I will also never buy their products again. The "club was damaged in course of play" is a terrible excuse for a poorly designed product, especially when only hitting maybe 40-50 balls. I could see if this was a $10 Wal-Mart special, but this is a $400 club.

tm burner sf 2.0 tp I cracked twice.....second time they wanted to give me newer rbz head...I said nah I want burner they said ok

that 2.0 tp sf was a great great head...even by todays standard...wouldnt mind another actually. ...most.fade biased driver I ever had....for me thats a good thing

I cracked the head on my Callaway FT tour. Because I had an aftermarket shaft installed, Callaway wouldn't honor the warrantee.

I know Callaway isn't Titleist, but just my experience.
[/quote]
The reason Callaway didn't replace those drivers is because of the construction they were prone to the seal between the face cup and composite when too much heat is applied. I don't see how Titleist won't replace the head under warranty when it fails under normal use.

I just spoke to a different person at Titleist and was told that the person I talked to last was wrong.

He said it shouldn't matter what shaft is in it, and to go ahead and send them the head. So you were right

I had the exact same problem, I sent it back to Titleist, a few weeks later I recieved a brand new head. Not sure why the shaft would matter when I called to find out what to do they only wnated me to send in the head. I called to find out what was wrong after the fact and the only thing they would tell me is that they do some tests to the head and if it fails they replace it, just to expensive to try and find a small crack or break in a weld.
