Swing Weight

I picked up a set of taylormade r7 tour preferred and they have the project x shafts 6.0. I took them to the range and could not hit a single shot..they felt like i was swinging a sledge hammer. i was told when i picked up them they were an inch over standard so i had them check the swing weight and they told me they are a D9. if i cut them back down to standard length it would drop the weight back down to a normal range ??

Yep. Usually 6 SW points per inch. Should drop you back to D3.

if i wanted a d2 swing weight what do you think i would have to do?

Add some weight (about 5g) to the butt end of the club, usually by installing a heavier grip.It really won't make a difference in feel tho.

Either cut them down a little bit more or add weight to the butt of the club. Or reshaft. Any of those could solve the swingweight issue.

Why did you get them an inch over standard? If you need that because of your height or wrist to floor, cutting them down may not be your best solution.

If you cut them down, have the lie angles looked at as well. (Almost) any fitter can do that for you.

[/quote]what wont make a difference ? i was gonna install the medium multicomp grips anyway

If you want them at D2 you could cut them 1 1/4" which would move them 7 1/2 SW points and they would be D 1.5. That is if they are all exactly D9. I am with the other guys on this one though. Either cut them down an inch and play them at D3, or install a bit heavier grip when you have them cut down. I would be really impressed if you could decipher 1 SW point though.

[/quote] i bought them that way, i was gonna have them cut down to standard anyway just never thought about swing weight. they loft and lie are all standard so i am good there.

in that case, hack an inch off of them all, and you're good to go.. Remember, measure twice...

yes if you cut them back 1 inch they will be very close to standard. I would recommend cutting them back 1.25 so that they are at D1.

There are very, very few people (probably closer to none) who can discern D2 from D3.
