Last year, as a single, I got paired with a couple of bail bondsmen. One was 6'4", the other a bit shorter ... Both with arms like Popeye. We got to the par 3 14th. It was playing 162 yards. The big guy takes out his pitching wedge and ends up 12 feet from the pin. Haven't seen anything like that before or since. And, NO, the guy didn't score well. He just hit it a long way.

The farthest I have carried my 7 iron has been 101/4 miles. That is the longest course I walk and carry.

I have always hit my 7 iron 150. I would think as I have aged and my SS has slowed some that number would have went down. I guess technology has made up for my loss of SS. My one set of Cobras actually go 155 but my Mizunos I play are 150. I certainly can hit either 7 iron farther. 160+ ish if I wanted to but I have a certain tempo I try to maintain in my swing. When I start leaning on my swing that is when I start losing my accuracy.

My teaching pro was asked how for he hits his driver by a student yesterday, I just happened to hear it.

His reply "60 meters... To the right. It doesn't really matter how farm it matters that it's on the line you need. Some guys hit it far, some guys hit it not very far. They can be close in handicap."

I hit mine farther then the 8iron and less far then the 6iron.

Slapping the ball around a bit, having loads of fun.

My post was meant as a joke, just find it interesting how everyone seems to carry their 7 iron exactly 150 yards, no matter where they play. Trust me Im not going to lose any sleep over how far people carry their 7 iron, nor am I really going to bend my 7 iron down to a 5 iron. Hell I already carry a 7 iron 180, so it wouldnt really make sense.

I carry my 7i 3-5 yds past the longest claimed 7i distance within the group discussion that I'm involved in.

If it's pointed out that said golfer routinely blows his driver 30-40 yds past me, I very confidently and in a nochalant manner just state that we're discussing 7i distance, not driver, or any other club, though if pressed, and after 2-3 pops, I've been known to carry my 7i 218-222 yds.

Then I get up, excuse myself, and point out that all of this talk of distance is really inconsequencial, because the only number that counts is the number in the last box on the far right of the card, I give my patented wink(which I've been told really irritates a few guys when done during my matches, lol), and I exit, usually to go take a nap.

And I've seen a few posts here where they speak of "WRXers hit 150 yd SW's."

Paleeeeeeze ;)

I can take my 55* SCOR iron INTO THE WIND 177 yds and land it as soft as a marshmellow landing on the kitchen counter(HaHa, in 46 years, I've never used the word "marshmellow" to describe ANYTHING regarding my game, though the image is intoxicating :) )

And BTW, the guys who say that distance doesn't matter?

They're the same guys who say "It ain't the size of the ship, it's the motion of the ocean"

LMAO, yea, right-

Keep tellin yourself that Bronies, LMAO

Well, gotta go-

IV's waiting

Damn, these meds do wonders for my game, LMAO

Have a great day ALL :)

S55's at 1* strong and plus 1/2" .... According to PING fittings both indoors and outdoors, 177-178 is the avg on solid strikes

Personally, I do love the 200 yard 7 iron. A little flier and a tail wind goes a long way

Almost everyone I play with is 165-170 with a 7i

I'm a 150-155 guy with my 7, I find I'm closer to 155 with the Mizunos than I was with my CB3's.

I'll never understand the ego thing when it comes to how far guys can hit their clubs. My short game is solid, and I putt well. I'll take me 250 yard drive, my 150 yard 7 iron that misses the green left lately, a wedge and a putt for my par and not ever feel bad that I didn't hit one of those shots further.

I find iron distances irrelevant. I play with someone who plays rocketbladez irons and hits them easily a club further than me, but my drives go a little further than his. I know his seven iron specs are the same as my 6 iron specs so I don't let it bother me.
It's safe to say that it's a male thing and is driven by that trait, that, depending on the situation, has taken many a good man down hard, and I'm speaking of our personal frailties & insecurities.

We are myopically infatuated with size, strength & distance. Whether it's the engine HP under our vehicle's hood, the length of a certain appendage or how long we hit a golf ball.

Multi Million dollar cottage industries are built around all three of the above examples.

And while trying to "keep up with the big guy" in the above examples is basically harmless, if not potentially expensive, sometimes we can let this insecurity drive us to make nonsensical, insanely stupid & potentially dangerous decisions.

When I was a 20yo redshirt freshman, the big thing in my college football team's weight room was "flat backing" 350 lbs. Basically keeping you back straight and on the bench and bench pressing 350 lbs. I was 6'2", 237 lbs and pencilled in as the starting ILB going into spring ball. I left spring ball with my name in pen.

However, out of 8 scholarship ILB's, I was one of 3 that could not do 350(I FBed 320lbs), even though I was a starter. I was consumed with this number. I went to a roommate/teammate who was a NT and asked him about the "juice," because he had injected the past winter and picked up 20+ lbs of muscle along with taking his BP up 45 pounds(430lbs).

He was also my best friend, and he looked at me and said, "Dude, are you F'n insane? I did it to put myself in a position to start. You're there. You're strong enough. You're big enough. You're fast enough. You're there. Just go out and play."

Great advice and I wish that I could say that I listened, but I didn't. I took a pill anabolic, Dianabol, though my body couldn't process the drug and thankfully, I spent less than 7 days on it, due to side effects.

However, my insecurities and drive to be "bigger, stronger, better(?)" drove me to make a very poor decision.

Sorry for straying, though my point is decent, above average intellect men make terrible decisions daily based off of the two animals that they have the hardest time harnessing and controlling, their ego and their insecurities.

LMAO, just look at the OEM's marketing, LMAO

17 more yards?

Yea, right ;) ..........

But it sells-

Boy, does it sell, lol

Have a great week end

Some TaylorMade irons have shafts that are 1/2 to 3/4 inches longer than Ping irons. Add to the fact that the lofts are stronger. That can make some clubs play like 2 clubs longer than others. Simple as that. Nothing ground breaking here. It is what it is.

BTW, asking what club your playing partner hit on the tee is breaking the rules.

When I was searching for clubs a year ago I tried to keep an open mind. Gave a fair test to some Taylormade irons (maybe Burner 2.0?) along with Ping (that I ended up with) and others.

The mid to long irons in the Taylormade were so bloody lightweight, so overlength and played so upright that I could hardly make contact twice in a row even just hitting balls into a net in the store. If the lofts are also even more jacked than the Pings then I probably wouldn't have been able to get them in the air even when I caught them clean.

hahaha.... people don't lie.... ESPECIALLY on the internet.... now I am no physicist but if the OP said what is your CARRY and someone suggests that a 'big draw' CARRIES farther than a straight shot I will call their bluff. It's science. The world is round, water is needed for life and a straight ball hit under the same conditions, leaving the club face at the same angle will carry farther that a draw. The draw will ROLL farther than a straight ball because of the top spin. The length of a ball depends on the angle at which said ball leaves the club face. 16* is the ideal angle according to physicist Herman Erlichson: http://www.forbes.com/sites/stevensalzberg/2013/04/29/the-physics-of-golf-whats-the-ideal-loft-to-hit-the-ball-farthest/

so, in closing, if your 'power draw' flies farther than a straight shot you are not defying the laws of physics.... you are simply not striking the ball the same way....

and bud, you better change your spelling of 'naive' before the grammar po-po come and get ya ;)

It doesnt, but some folks are really enamored by those who can hit it farther than them, and if they dont play with anyone who can hit it long, they give those long hitters unicorn status

And for that reason the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship exists

There is a big difference between a 165-170yrd 7i and long drive competitions.

Just tee it forward man, no biggie

Sorry didnt read the context of your post, was just referring to where you said people give [background=rgb(247, 247, 247)]long hitters unicorn status, and thought of the times Ive seen people watch Jamie Sadlowski hit golf balls.[/background]
