Nippon Modus Question

I am currently playing S300's in my AP2's but recently hit a few balls with a demo club that had Modus 3 120 X-Flex shafts. Can anyone compare the feel, weight and results they have found between the Modus 3's and S300's? I liked the feel of the 6-iron I hit but would like a little more info before switching out.

It is a great shaft. Smoother feeling than the S300 with a little more kick at impact. Distance was a wash for me between the two. I love the Modus3; my favorite steel shaft. Plays a touch soft to flex, compared to other steel shafts. May need to hard step a stiff flex if coming from the S300. Not sure that you have to go to an X flex. My driver SS is 106 and I played S300, but went straight into a stiff flex Modus3. I may consider a hard step next time.

I have a similar SS...110 with driver. Was considering the X-flex on these...

I have the 120 stiff in my 714ap2s and it's a great shaft my favorite thus far through my journey of wasting money on golf equipment. Feel is amazing and really kicks at impact. I don't think it plays soft to flex at all I think its just the shafts makeup. My driver ss is 110-113 and I have zero issues with the stiffness, great flat high ball flight.

I've recently purchased 714 AP-2 with Modus 3 130 X My previous irons were AP-2's with KBS C-Taper S...., I finally got a chance to play today (northeast, very harsh winter) I'm 45 yrs old was looking for a smoother shaft.... The Modus 3.... Lives up to every bit of its reputation as a silky smooth shaft! I've noticed a higher ball flight, however it is still penetrating not ballooning..... Yes I'm a ho! An if I tried Nippon a lot sooner maybe I would have not become a club ho'

Jerkert07... my numbers are very similar to yours. I've been playing the Modus 120X for 3 years now. Tried Tour-V X and Fibersteel 110X, NOTHING COMPARES. You won't go wrong and I personally recommend the 120X flex for the consistency. The stiff flex lost its consistency when I wanted to squeak 5 more yards our of an iron. The stiff spun just a tad too much on these shots.

I moved to the Modus 3 120 x's from the DG X100's and the feel is unbelievable. I do find they play a touch softer than the X100's, but from a performance standpoint they are are better for me. I am 110-113 with the driver, with a moderate tempo. These shafts are king in my books.

Agree! I've read that many who use the Modus 120 say they play soft to flex and I'd have to say that most of these converts probably previously used a heavier butt-stiff shaft. I personally don't feel they play soft to flex because my previous iron shafts (more than 3 years ago now) were lightweight Ping zz65's. I think initial feel with these shafts is completely dependent upon what you are comparing them to. The Modus 120 is a mid-weight and softer in the butt-section so as compared to the C-Taper or Dynamic Golds; everyone has their opinions. BUT the one trait carries through with every review...DON'T MISS A CHANCE TO PLAY THIS SHAFT!

I have the 714 ap2's with the dg300's and I ball on the heck out of them. I have 110-114 driver swing speed. I was contemplating going with the c tapers but after reading this post I'm going to try the nippons.

I realize it probably has a lot to do with my swing but I'm hitting the ball straight. My problem is that I live in West Texas and the wind is horrible here. I recently went from a 170 7 iron shot to a 160 easily.. Kills my ego but I've trimmed my scores by about 4-5 strokes. If anyone has any advice I'm all ears but I'm definitely going to give the modus 3 x 120.

They aren't softer, they are just smoother feeling. But, since they feel so smooth, go up a flex and get the benefit of tighter dispersion and more accurate results if you're not losing distance. They say to the play the lightest and loosest shaft that can handle your swing but that always got me into dispersion issues. I play the Modus130, so can't compare the 120 to DG. 130's though play stiffer to flex than DG. Some say 120 plays softer to flex.

I found the 120x to play to flex rating, coming from s300 and modus ns pro 1150 s. So I would reccomend the s not the x but the best thing would be to try them both if possible. I agree that they are a great shaft but don't let the smooth feeling fool you into thinking they play soft to flex, they don't.
