Golfsmith trade in program bad experience?

if you care about quality so much more than year model then why do you want to get rid of the irons?

if they were of such high quality I'd think you'd want to keep them, and regardless of price how many golfers are looking to buy any 10 year old set of irons (much less from what's really a 3rd or 4th tier brand in the eyes of most golfers)

you should try and not take business personally... the store is looking for trade ins because it wants to make money buying and selling used clubs
they don't want your high quality irons because they don't stand to make any money re-selling them

they aren't sending special mailings just to you, they're blasting them to everyone and their grandma

I can honestly say I wouldn't have been mad if they had offered $20..i would have said no thanks ill keep them , please point me to the titleist fairway rack....I understand supply and demand and age versus value etc...What I cant comprehend is blowing up a persons inbox for 6 months BEGGING for trade ins and when one is presented saying "not on our list, we cant make an offer"....

But if you must debate price..I challenge you to go find a set for less than $100 that you can buy today...bet you cant!

Ill be the 1st to say that this thread is pointless as of now.....But not because I think golfsmith policy is correct, but because it has become painfully obvious to me that im one of a small few who care more about quality than year model.... Golfsmith maybe be right in one respect....Maybe they shouldn't take any trade over 6 weeks old.. If the unwashed masses want to trade new stuff for new stuff why not....You guys trading new stuff coming and going are the ones getting hosed...I stood to loose $30 ..how many hundred are you loosing each time.????

That is in no way directed at anyone in particular on here...its meant as an in general opinion of the Industry...period..so no conclusion jumpers please.....

Those clubs are 10 years old. How hard is it to understand that no one wants crap that is over a decade old. This is Golfsmith not an antique store.

Anyone who trades a club in is not being smart.

The trade in values for every single club are terrible.. With craigslist, eBay and the BST you could easily get 30-40% higher then any trade in value.

Take a day or 2.. Sell the club and use cold hard cash to find your next purchase

Bingo.
Same thing as with a car in most cases. But people just go ahead and trade (losing money) because it is "convenient".

Like any trade deal go in knowing:

1. The value of your item(s).
2. The value of what you want.
3. What deal you have in mind.
4. What deal will you settle with.

Has anyone on here tried to trade in clubs with golfsmith and failed? Not because of price but because of you club not being on their trade in list?
Well it happened to me yesterday. We have a brand new store and I just bought a new driver from them and was please trading in my 910d3....Well I also had my eye on a 910 13.5 degree 3 wood on the used rack that had a real blue board in it for $79..So I go back in with an extra set of irons im not using. They are a 695cb titleist with px 6.0 shafts...3-pw...and they are near mint...Ive only played them once and they are good ..I just went with the zb instead...anyway I went to trade them in with their +50% deal that's going on..I was going to get the used 3 wood or maybe look at new ones depending on what they offered me. Well they said we wont make an offer, they aren't on our list. Mind you I drove an hour one way to get there. if they have a list that's cool, but why not post the damn thing somewhere????
I argued that they aren't that old (2009-2010) and they are nearly mint...The manager replied with a "we would only offer around $10 or so anyway and you can get more than that on craigslist." I then flew hot and told him I had just looked on his used rack and saw a set of 2007 x forged for $399 and a set of mp59 for $599 used...how can these be a $10 set of irons???? I would have taken $100 plus the 50% so $150.....anyone else have a problem with clubs not being on the approved list?

I traded them at play it again for same 3 wood different shaft...Got the 910 13.5 and $50 for them...

About 6 or 7 years ago, after getting denied trade-ins for a mint Never Compromise milled putter, I got to talking to a GS employee about trade ins. He said that they don't make a lot of money on used clubs. He said that they get a ton of trade-ins and often their used club inventory keeps on growing and just ends up taking more and more space. Most customers who walk into a golf store want new clubs. This was about 6-7 years ago and back then my GS would have a sidewalk sale now and then to dump their ever-growing used club inventory. I remember getting a couple sets of Eye 2s for $29/set. Dirt cheap. They just wanted to get rid of some inventory. Whether this guy was BSing me or not, I can see some truth to what he said. Just because there are comparable used sets listed for $300, $400, $500 doesn't mean they sell them. Those sets could have been sitting on their shelves for months. So, it could mean that your 695CBs might be just another set that would sit on their shelves not selling and depreciating. I realize it's more work to sell, but your clubs sounded like they were too nice to just settle on a "trade-in" value. Sure they were a few years old, but lots of people would be willing to pay a heck of a lot more than a trade-in value for clean set of Titleist forged irons.
