interesting information:
In recent years, manufacturers like Bridgestone and Wilson have put a major emphasis on compression, with the goal of fitting each golfer with the ball best suited to his swing speed and skills. The idea is that golfers with slower swing speeds have an easier time compressing a lower-compression (softer) ball, therefore getting more distance than they can with a high-compression tour model.

It stands to reason that a softer ball will compress more than a high-compression ball, right? Most analysts think so. And nearly every company makes golf ball models of different compression ratings aimed at golfers of different swing speeds.

The lone dissenter: Titleist. The world’s No. 1 golf ball manufacturer insists compression isn’t important when fitting golfer to golf ball. Titleist argues that there’s little discernible difference in how much a tour pro and a rank amateur compress the ball, regardless of the ball’s compression rating. Instead, Titleist focuses on feel, backspin, accuracy, trajectory and greenside responsiveness in its fitting recommendations.

So who’s right, and who’s wrong?
Titleist's focus points are all important, but the fact that they just released the "TruSoft" low compression ball is at least a nod to the fact that for some of us, we get better distance with our slower (80-90 mph) swings with lower compression golf balls.

I'm in the 90 to 100mph area sometimes above it but I draw a line at how much I want to spend on golf balls........so after the try of the 50 Elite next weekend I'll probably play just the gamer & maybe try the gamer tour when my next golfing season begins

Finally got DSG to respond about the compression for each of their Top Flite Gamers -------here it is

Thank you for contacting Customer Support at www.dickssportinggoods.com.

The Gamer Tour is built with a high-resiliency core to an overall compression in the 80-85 range, so golfers with driver swings of 80-95MPH should generate enough power to drive it farther than they can hit a high-compression "tour" level ball.

I was not able to locate the compression ratings for the Gamer but see that Golfers whose swings aren't quite as fast enough to compress a "tour" ball for maximum difference will likely see better results with the Gamer.

As for the Gamer Soft it has a low compression and high resiliency core combination provides longer distance for slower speeds. This is rated low as the other two are rated in the mid compression.
Thanks for confirming - my guess was that the Gamer I played was in the 70 comp range. Loving the 35 comp of the Maxfli Softfli, but I bet the Gamer Soft would fit the bill just as well.

Glad I returned the Gamer Soft.......I know what my choice will be if I don't like what I'm using next weekend.

It also tells me with my swing speed being between 90 & 100 I could use in theory the Tour or standard Gamer.

Definitely could! Obvious advantages to the urethane cover there.

Some golf balls are just too soft, and feel like you're hitting marshmallows. it's nice some softballs in the bag for those firm greens that are cut to a 13 stimp, but funny thing is, I hit my Top Flite XL distance golf balls as far as any softer golf ball, and my swing speed is approximately 90 mph?
I've usually hit the Slazenger Raw Distance well but they don't always hold greens too well.

To me, the new Pinnacle gold have a soft feel to them even though they are a higher compression ball. I think this is accomplished by a softer cover. Tell me they feel like the Titleist NXT s, and I play the pinnacle golds and the top flight xls right now to see which one I'm going to like the best for next year.

Just going for distance & not one that adds some receptiveness to the greens?

I asked about mixing a purchase of the Gamer Tour & standard Gamer for $35...........in my e-mail they sent it was supposed to happen automatically when I put them in the cart it didn't happen..........I entered into a webchat with them and they gave me a 1 time promo code to get both for $30.

I'll also be able to return whatever one I don't want to go with. (I already like the standard gamer, so if I don't like the Tour ones I can just get more standard gamers)

I've tried most of the soft balls out there. My swing speed is usually around 95 but sometimes when I'm not stiff it can get to around 100. But I always seem to go back to the Top Flight D2 Feel golf balls. I get great distance off the tee and they don't hit the green and roll out 10 feet. They roll of the putter nice and smooth. And the best thing is I can get them from Dicks for 2 for $25. Think I'll stop trying out every ball that comes out and just stick to what works for my game.

That is always the goal.........I did it to myself late in this years golfing season & didn't need to do it. Now I'm happy I made my choice & will stick to it unless they stop making the ball.

no matter what ball I choose to play, I usually stick with it as I like to play the same ball all the time. It's sort of coincides with my golfing philosophy of doing routines over and over. although, I might change to a different ball next year, who knows? But I will always play the same ball throughout the season.

I prefer to stick with the same ball, if I change it will be because I think it will be time or they'll no longer make the ball.

I really like the Gamer Soft. It's average on the tee but amazing around the greens. Great stopping power, great feel off the putter, everything you could ask for. For 20 bucks a dozen you can't go wrong.
Is there any word on whether or not these GamerSofts are coming out in yellow and no, I don't like the regular gamer yellow. Same question on Maxfli softfli.

Gamers and Gamers Soft are fantastic. Use a 20% off coupon when they are buy 2 for $30 and you are getting them at $1 a ball. Really can't beat that for anyone above a 10 handicap.
Where is the coupon? Also, Black Friday deals were buy one get one - not bad at 10 a piece.

I'm late to the party, but REALLY like the Gamer Soft...so I'll throw my two cents out there.

Who uses these with a swing speed of 90 plus & how are they ?

I'm in the low 90's with my driver and fairway woods (lower with irons). These are great balls. They aren't particularly long (my $.02), but control wise...I think they're great. Driver...I'm 260+ (80% or so swing), 3 wood 230-245, and 5 wood around 215. I have to club up with my irons though. I think that's more because my iron swing speed is WAY down though.

Performance wise (to me)...I would say that the Gamer Soft is similar to the Titleist DT TruSoft. The TruSoft is the only ball I've played that I like just about as much as these. With the 2 for $30 deals that are always running on the Gamer Soft...I started going for them more often. At this point, I won't play anything else.

For approach shots and putting...these balls have a great feel to them. They REALLY stick a landing with properly hit irons and wedges. Today...I had a few hit the green and fringe and spin back anywhere from a few inches to about a foot. That's a good thing and a bad thing, depending on your playing style.

If you like to go right at the flag...these balls are GREAT. However, if you tend to hit short and want some roll-out...you'll have to learn how to work with these balls. I would say that these balls are a GREAT bang for your buck. I'm sure there's a "better" ball out there, but I doubt that there are too many balls out there that play like these and can be had for $15/dozen. Just my $.02...

Good feedback. I think many here would agree. Most companies have the yellow on the wrong ball. The gamer is yellow and the gamer soft is white...too bad. Watch out for the BOGO deals at DSG on Black Friday and the cost comes down further.
