2014 Top Flite Gamer & Gamer Soft

What will be interesting is where the TopFlite brand and manufacturing will go now that Dick's is bailing on the golf business.

I really liked the Callaway Gamer V2 (see avatar...in Photoshopped yellow since they only came in white). Maybe a major manufacturer will pick up TopFlite and resurrect the V2...in yellow please.

Difficult to tell if they are giving up on golf, although sales are down along with the rest of the industry. Both Top-Flite and Maxfli have extensive offerings and I would hope that Dicks keeps them or sells them to a manufacturer that will keep them intact and continue with the research. Balls like the Gamer series and the U series from Maxfli are excellent and reasonably priced since you are buying directly from the manufacturer. If an independent company buys them and does not have a large retail presence expect a $6-$8 increase/dozen.

But I suspect we are jumping the gun and they are most likely making money on golf balls, but the down club market is slamming them.

I guess only time will tell, But id Dick's really leaving the golf industy all together, or are they moving the bulk of it to the GG side and have the Dick's stores handle the other sports.

At buy 1 get 1 free, I am stocking up not only because the ball works for me, but with Dick's having golf sales issues I don't want to have to find a new ball right now. $10.00 a dozen for this ball is a no brainer. Also, my Dicks did not have the Gamer Soft either.

The Gamer Soft has always been kinda hard to find...

But I dont think they are bailing... they just bailed on the idea of having PGA certified salespeople... didnt seem to give them an advantage, and cost them (understandably) more per hour for a PGA rated salesperson than a regular Dicks employee...

it all comes down to one thing...

I started playing the Gamers recently and I really like the way they play. I feel for the price they can't be beat. The one problem I have noticed is that I have had a couple balls get a small shallow chip in the cover of the ball. Anyone else have this happen to their gamers? I can't say I've ever had another golf ball do that before.

I have played all of the Gamers and have never had that problem. Like many urethene balls the Gamer Tour covering supposedly shreds for high swing speed wedges but I never had the problem. By the way the Gamer Soft balls are very difficult to find and both Dicks and Golf Galaxy have removed them from their websites. I suspect that they cannot keep up with the demand and do hope they do not tinker with it too much after being named to the GD Hot List (Gold) and receiving such accolades from most golfers that have tried it.

Just picked up a dozen of the Gamer's and they feel good off the putter on the carpet.Looking to get out and try these but this crazy NJ weather might prohibit that for awhile.Did play 9 yesterday with the Noodle red and it was a really good ball.Long and stopped well.

Haven't played in over 2 years.
Still dealing with bladder cancer.I'm in the hands of the VA now.

The gamer tour has a urethane cover

So the regular Gamer is something else?

For some reason I thought they stopped making the Gamer Tour but it shows up on dicks website.

Yeah the regular gamer and the gamer soft have surlyn cover

I just played the gamer soft for the first time last wekend and think it is a great value. My normal ball is the rx but it seems to be temperature sensitive so I tried the supersoft , e6 and the gamer soft for colder golf. The gamer soft is the easier to shape side to side of the 3 "winter" balls. It is plenty long and launches fairly high- about the same as an e6. It releases a little on short shots but behaves better than the other 2 for me. It putts a little livlier than the rx but less than the e6 and ss. On Sunday I tied my career best on my home course with this ball.

The Gamer is a 3 piece surlyn ball similar to the NXT Tour and Bridgestone e6 with good distance and reasonable stopping power on the green. The Gamer Soft is a 3 piece low compression (they claim 35) that provides exceptional distance and control around for a surlyn ball. For my 90mph I am slightly longer with the 2 piece Softfli or Supersoft, but the Gamer Soft's performance on approach shots and around the green gives it an edge. I have not played it, but the specs are similar to the Wilson Duo Spin, but currently at 2 dozen for $30 the Gamer Soft is a steal. I play the Maxfli Softfli for many of my rounds because of the distance, but if I want an edge in a match the Gamer Tour is my choice.

Funny thing is, whatever ball I play my score doesn't reflect any advantage. Right now I have been playing TopFlite XL Distance balls @ 2 18pks/$20. That's $.56/ball ! With these TF's, I have shot 2 78's, 81, 83. I could have shot these scores with other balls just as well, but the TF's will do for me.

Same here, I've played at least a half dozen different kinds of balls and can score in the 80's with any of them. Still for my own sanity I want/need to pick just 1.

At this moment I'm planning to wait until next year to try the Wilson 50 to compare to the regular gamer & Maxfli Solfli
