Bubba's contract with PING ends this year

One of the "biggies" (Titleist, Taylormade, Callaway) will offer him big money and Ping will probably not match it. Too bad for Bubba, Ping makes good stuff.

Ping won't pay big bucks for Watson to stay on their staff, but his compensation will probably be increased as a two time major winner (I would think). With that said, he certainly can make more money with other brands. It all comes down to whether he wants to stick with the winning formula, or do what most major winners do, which is switch and lose their games for a while.

I must say, I've enjoyed Bubba in Ping commercials. The you're welcome ones with Mahan have been good, and a while back they had one where Bubba was doing a voice-over explaining that he never had a lesson, etc., but he's got a great club engineer and you can too.

Problem is Bubba plays a pink G25 with stripes. They don't even sell that one. Played S59s which they don 't sell. Uses a putter with a finish they don't sell.

I don't think the lack of availability of a pink w/ white stripes g25 is an issue... i'm thinking that wouldn't be a popular option. He's playing the s55 irons right now, and since he switched he's been on fire on tour. I don't think people care what putter Bubba uses, given he can't putt. All in all, I don't see this impacting his marketability for the company. Just wear the logo, and hit bombs...

Titelist doesn't pay anyone big bucks. That's one of the reasons why Rory left and they continue to lose big names once they make it big.

Nobody cares. The average buyers are sheep. If that weren't the case then he wouldn't be in any commercials.

Besides, he does play a g25 driver and he does play s55 irons, which they do sell.

Bubba seems like a perfect fit for Ping's stable. However, I can't see Ping putting up the big money to keep him, and I can't see anyone passing up the big money to stay. Titleist doesn't pay their guys well so he won't go there. He doesn't seem like a good fit for Nike. I could see either Taylormade or Callaway making a big push at him. At the end I think he ends up with Callaway...

[/quote] ....also think Bubba stays with Ping....but something to consider if he tests the market: IIRC Nike requires their staff to play their ball and that was one of the reasons Patrick Reed jumped from Nike to Callaway (maybe it was because they wouldn't let him play Cheetah's ball or something like that)....while Callaway allows English to continue playing the Pro V1x so IMHO that is another advantage for a player choosing Callaway over Nike

I say Bubba stays with Ping. He's a highly marketable guy
if he keeps winning. He'll have many other endorsement
deals come his way that can bring in more millions$$$.

Ping doesn't need to pay him Nike-like money to keep

Maybe the same company that makes that half million dollar watch he wears will start up a golf club division.

Ping lets him play what he wants where that wouldn't be the case with one of the bigger OEMs. He would have to play their latest and greatest with disasterous results to his game. Tiger doesn't even get as many one offs from Nike as Bubba does from Ping. Plus they seem to be similar in backgrounds.. Family, religious beliefs, etc.... Just look no farther than Rory to see the instant dive in game by switching. Plus other than Titleist he would have to switch balls with the others..

There's a lot of ways for athletes to make a buck. I believe Ping is just a club deal, so that allows him to get separate sponsorships for balls, apparel etc...plus golfers can always get deals from banks, cialis, accounting firms whatever. Going to Nike he'd probably get more cash, but it would be all inclusive

the difference between a Ping club deal plus other peripheral deals including apparel, might not be that much, and make it worth it for him to stay

Cobra would be an interesting option, and I can see a pink driver (similar to the orange driver), making it's way to the marketplace. With that said, he seems content at Ping.
