Downsides to buying clubs online

Without testing the clubs first? I'm looking at some cg16's wedges but my local golfsmith doesn't have any in the used area. I'm wondering, should I buy the cg16's online even though I've never hit them before? Besides the obvious "I won't like them" risk, what others are there? Do they have a good resale value if I happen to not like them? Thanks!

you putt with a heavy putter...go for it

Do people enjoy being smart and sarcastic online? Never understood that.

But, as long as you get a decent deal online for the set of irons then you should be able to resale for a similar price.

I guess I shouldn't use what works for me then. Appreciate the advice nonetheless!

My mistake I'm talking about the wedges not the irons. Thanks though! I will look for good prices for sure

I have the CG-16's and love them. I rotate the 52 and 56 in and out and always carry my 60. When I purchased them they were brand new (about two years ago now) and I think I paid around $175 for the whole set. Because Cleveland has come out with a couple of newer/better sets the 16's can now be had for a song. And since you will get them fairly cheap odds are you would be able to get most if not all of your money back if you don't like them.

But I cannot imagine you not loving them. They are incredible quality and they spin like crazy!

Appreciate the great reply! I may just pull the trigger on them. I'm gonna get a 54 and 58, does $70-80 each sound like a good price on them? You got a great price on yours! Thanks for all the help! I bet I will love them too

Occasionally, I'll get someone at the local store who won't let me return or exchange even if it was purchased from their online store. Usually asking for the store manager will help, otherwise I just leave and come back another day.

Ok thanks for the advice!

Another downside (besides wait and possible resale) would be that you can't actually see them. Wedge shape can be very different from head to head. With something as personal as a wedge you might want to make sure that it lines up with your eye. Otherwise you could end up with a wedge that gives you fits because of the way you line it up.

Ok thanks guys! Does $80 each sound good for a wedge a few years old?
[/quote]

No, you can get new vokeys or Cleveland's for like $125 and great used SM4s that are last years for 70ish. $80 for a couple year old wedges is not a good deal no matter what brand IMO.

Yes, that is a great price in my book if they are still new. Just be sure to shop around a bit and do some comparisons. The other aspect of your purchase is the bounce. Fortunately I had been fitted and so I was able to look for my exact specs. If you haven't been fitted (someone correct me if I am mistaken!!!) I believe Cleveland offers what amounts to a neutral grind setup. There are some real gurus here that can help you in that arena. Oh, and I also got mine 1/2 inch long and 2 up - part of my specs!

My favorite part of these wedges is how they play out of some REALLY bad areas. Sand, divots, leaves, thick rough, and even mud - I have hit them out of all sorts of lies and they inspire confidence. Wait until you stand over them!

Good luck!!! Post some pics here once you get them.
Jim

The cg16 would be new for $80, not used. Is that still a good price? I'm gonna look around for sure though
