Fun post...just found the magic bullet for hitting a draw........alcohol.

I have been fighting a fade/slice for the last 6 months or so with my driver as well as my irons. I have not been playing much golf (3 rounds since October) and have not had hardly any time to practice. I am currently in a 2 day 4 man scramble tournament at the lake of the ozarks. I hit a fee good drives today as well as some good iron shots, but for the most part I was fighting the rights all day long. I went out to the driving range tonight at the hotel we are staying at to hit a few balls and miraculously every ball ( well....almost every ball) I hit with my driver was a draw with a great ball flight. I did hit one cut ( bad swing) and 2 smother hooks, but 90% of my drives were exactly what I have been searching for. The only thing I can come up with is that I had 3 margaritas before heading to the range. I am not much of a drinker, but , tomorrow morning, I am heading straight to the Bloody Mary bar before we tee off. One thing I can vouch for is that the Speeder TS 6.2x shaft is incredible at keeping the spin and ball flight down. I had been playing an Ahina 70x in my 9.5 SLDR and with the 6.2ts x flex I had to raise the loft up to 10* just to get the ball flight up. I previously played my SLDR with the Ahina at 9* loft....now just to let everyone know that I don't really believe that alcohol is the reason I was able to turn the ball over tonight, more than anything it has shown me that this game is all about the 6 inches in between your ears. Still, I am going to try the Bloody Mary idea tomorrow and see how the day goes.

As someone who's hooks get out of hand, I'm more of a fan of the Bud Select cuts.

This was coined by a friend in a giant drunkfest of a 4-man scramble for the Elks in Chillicothe, MO. The problem with the BS cuts is one too many and they become the Bud Select fall-overs.

I guess it's possible booze could allow someone to change into the persona of Rory McIlroy. It will also allow you to become Mike Tyson or Ron Jeremy if you drink enough of it.

I refer to this with my brother as "the game-enhancer." We play in a tourney every year and learned after a few years that it's a waste of time for him to do any kind of warm up or practice before the round, we encourage him to grab a seat at the bar and have a nice leisurely breakfast with plenty of Bloody's. He's even admitted that it helps him "turn his brain-off," and slows him down.

I have a good buddy that is a + hcp golfer and has a fantastic short game, and while he is a good golfer sober, he is great with about 4-6 budweisers in him. I never did get around to hitting the Bloody Mary bar before our round, so just wound up playing a fade all day.

No kidding. Partnered with him couple weeks ago in MO Sr 4 ball at Porto Cima, he stuffed a 12 packer in his bag, only 2 left when we got done. He needs few Buds to get warmed up. Last year in MO Sr 4-Ball, I lost track of how many he had in final day and he actually played steady golf at end, we ended up with a trophy.

Last Friday, I had one of my best ball striking round in a long time with help of few cold ones in a fun best ball tourney.

It can be a good tension reliever but not always around the greens for me.

I have actually played with him at Twin Oaks when he drank an entire 18 pack.......walking in 90+ degree heat. He finished the last beer walking up 18, and he shot around even par. He drank the first 9 beers cold and the last 9 beers Luke warm as they were sitting in my truck. He is a machine when it comes to Budweiser.

Really? No way I can do half of that. He's a crazy but funny guy. I was going to drive him up to Old Kinderhook this morning but the tournament got postponed due to forecast.

I played Old Kinderhook on Friday as part of our 2 day tournament. The course is in really nice shape, however they have a Par 4 (15th) that is temporarily playing as a par 3 due to construction of new hotel. The greens were aerated about 2-3 weeks ago, and are in pretty good shape but still just a tiny bit bumpy. Still, the greens are some of the best greens around for a public course. I think it was probably a good call postponing the golf today as I think it's going to get really nasty.

I too, have experienced this phenomenon. When my buddy and I play, instead of asking for shots he just requires me to play after having a few, god I love still being in college LOL. My handicap is +2, his unofficially is a 6. Well he has since stopped requesting that as it has backfired. I recall the last time we played according to this arrangement, I was -6 through 4 and shot -8, 28 on the front 9! My buddy could not believe it, as he normally caddies for me in tournaments, I was making eagles, kick in birdies. He was trying to convince me to stash a flask in my bag to for a pre-tournament round "warm-up" LOL

So leerob3, GAME-ENHANCER it is!

Now if I could just figure out how to get in that state with my game in tournaments, without the alcohol............

Hotel? I didn't know that. The pro staff there are always very cordial. It's a fun course to play on.
