I think it was Einstein who said that doing the same thing over and over and expecting the same result is just stupid. I prefer to think of this man as an eternal optimist! My hat is off to him.

The highest score I ever took for one hole in a tournament was a 9 on a par 3 when i was a senior in high school in the most importanct tournament of the year and I was three south of the border at the time. I thought that melted snowman was horrific. I can't imaging carding a 27.

Actually, repeating the same thing over and over and expecting a different result was Einstein's definition of insanity. Carding a 27 the way he did seems to fit that definition perfectly. My hat's off to him for his tenacity.

Played in a stroke play 36 hole AM competition today and my cart mate took a legit 27 on a par 3!
Par 3, 181 over water.

1-tee into water
3-tee into water
5,7,9,11,13,15,17,19,21, all in water from drop zone
23 pulled left, 24 chipped into water across the green
26 chipped up and 27 putted into hole.

Might be missing something but this is the best I can recall!!!
I gotta say as shocking as reading about a 27 on a par 3 is to me I'm even more impressed by the man not W/Ding. I'd love to pick his brain about that thought process. I hope the memory of someone going back after a big blow up lasts longer then the score.

Just curious, but any idea why he did not go to the drop zone after he dunked his first shot? I realize he dunked a pile of balls when he went there after the next one was wet, but it seems like his mindset would have been better hitting 3 from 95 yards rather than hitting 5. If I hit one in the drink from 181, there is no way I am passing up a 95 yard shot from the DZ to hit again from 181.

Now, you cannot take any thunder away from a 27 on a par 3 no doubt.

But I have had a "Tin Cup" moment in a tournament before as a scratch golfer...

I carded a 13 on a 300 yard par 4 by hitting 4 in OB to the left with the driver.

I was young, cocky and stupid though. My playing partner knocked it on the green, I had done it before and wasnt really thinking as I kept re-teeing on the teebox.

It happens, although its almost insane to believe.

I don't understand this either, presumably most of the water shots were chunked. At some point surely you would just skull one over 120 yards.

I think this is one of the funniest threads out there , My worst that i recall in a tourney is a 9 on a par 4 but my friend ( a 5hcp at time , now 2) had a 13 on the par 3 3rd at mount juliet , a pretty similar hole to the one the OP's partner played

I guess I can sort of see how it happened with a 95yd drop zone shot, but my gosh that had to be embarrassing. I hope he's not on here!
He has been and he's good with it.

He showed up the next day, had an 88, with the field's average being 83.5 and moved on.

He's a fine Player and Gentleman, as his FC and OP can attest to.

Anyway, on a more positive note, How bout Captain Watson!!

Yeah Babyyyyyyyyyy!!!

Have a Great week-end Gals & Gents :)

My Best,
Richard

We heard it hit the rocks and thought it bounced out and over the hazard, took the 5 min search and declared a lost ball.

are you allowed to purchase and use new equipment within a stipulated tournament round?? Thought what you started with is what you were limited too.
LOL

that's a fallacy created in part by Tin Cup.

5-1/5

Whether Player May Borrow Balls from Another Player

Q.During a stipulated round, a player runs out of balls. May he borrow one or more balls from another player?

A.Yes. Rule 4-4a prohibits a player from borrowing a club from another player playing on the course but the Rules do not prevent a player from borrowing other items of equipment (balls, towels, gloves, tees, etc.) from another player or an outside agency.
If the "One Ball" Condition in Appendix I is in effect, the player would need to obtain the same brand and type of ball as required by that condition.
Thank you for that response. Still, as a player in this group, the guy would have been swimming if he rinsed a number of my pro v's or better yet, Hey bud, I will sell you a Dz for $100.

Earlier this year I hit 3 balls into the hazard on the final hole of a match with a friend up 7 strokes on him before the hole. Tee shot from 177 outside in swing weak slice in water. He asks "Are you going to tee up another?" Trying to get me to hit off tee again. I respond, "No, I'm going to drop back from point of entry." So now only about 80 yards between me and green. Hit 2 balls fat into the water. Then frustrated decided I'm going to play it erring on the side of thin, hit it over, behind green. Here's the kicker.......as we go over the bridge behind all the trees 25 yards from the green....is the drop zone...doh! He missed a 6 foot putt and I won by 1 stoke for the game.

And if you are older and remember the Leafs winnning the Cup we call it a BIG M.

Had the honour in a competition of taking a 13 on a par 3 1,3,5,7,9 in water no drop zone and even clubbed up after #5 and then topped the next 2 to roll in drink. Then just aimed to the open area way right of green so 11 in rough chip and putt and still had 10 holes to play in a 2 round Club Championship. Showed up and played the next day with a 7 am tee time, FINISHED DEAD LAST. Thank God for a 9 max on my Handicap calculation (RCGA) at that time.

I am 38, and have kids 16 and 13. Maybe they will have kids, and with some luck, will see the Leafs win a cup...because the probably of it happening in my time or their time seems very low.

Did you let anyone play through?
No. I believe there were 2 groups on the tee and one on the adjacent green. We caught back up into position within 3 holes. The group behind us never waited once we cleared the par 3.
