Road maintenance

So, there is something I have been noticing more and more of the past few years, and this past brutal winter has brought it to the forefront of my attention: the roads in my area SUCK. More and more of my daily driving is spent getting my fillings shaken loose.

 

I seems like the state and counties are not keeping up, and Gov Christie indicated he needs to cut into state pension funds to cover road maintenance/repair. HOW CAN SOMETHING THAT BASIC NOT ALREADY BE IN THE BUDGET? That is like planning your household budget without accounting for food. Is this another wonderful effect of waste, fraud, and abuse? How are the roads in your area?

Many moons ago, taxes on the sale of gasoline, registration, and a few other things used to go towards the infrastructure and maintenance. However, states, being cash strapped, started appropriating those funds and mixed them all into the general budget, removing what they used to be earmarked for... specifically bridge and road maintenance.

Fortunately or unfortunately, this problem isn't unique to NJ. We have the same issues here in RI.

I too am from south jersey and some areas of road are straight up brutal. it would seem around here, they resurface roadways that have plenty of life left in them, but seem to ignore the roads covered in craters.

im thinking the road department gets kickbacks from the tire and suspension manufacturers, lol.

not to derail the thread, but being from south jersey, im wondering what golf courses you might frequent?

Home course is Seaview. I used to play Renault, Blue Heron, Brig, and Shoregate the most, but not much anymore.

You are right about choosing roads to repair. They repaved Tilton Rd when it wasn't even bad, but that's because it is lined with rich businesses (it's called the Golden Mile) whose owners I'm sure lean on the local pols....

oh nice, youre towards the shore. im closer to philly but make the trek down to Twisted Dune as my buddies are members there. a real gem, which nature has been slowly taking back over, was Blue Herons east course. I shed a tear when I found they shut it down. played Seaviews Pines course once and have been itching to get back.

around here we mainly stick to Running Deer as we've never encountered slow play there, lol. such a great course too along with Buena Vista CC, which could use some work as its an oldie, but in my eyes is a great golf course. have you played Cape May National? ive been wanting to head down there but it just hasn't happened yet.

BH east was a great track. I drive by there every day and I noticed that last fall they cut down the long grass and small trees which had been growing there, at least on the holes I can see from the road, which got my hopes up that maybe they're going to bring it back? We'll see. I used to play Buena Vista a lot. Love it. How about hole #10? I played CMN when they first opened, but then it fell into disrepair so I stopped going, but just last weekend I heard that it is looking nice again.

True, when I lived in Cali I didn't encounter many potholes. Everything there is perfect, just like a movie façade backdrop. However, there are other things going on in the People's Republik.

I think our nice roads are more a result of our nice weather, and not so much a conscientious choice of our idiotic legislature.

If your thinking about a move to Tulsa, OK for better roads don't. We are in the same boat. We had a bond vote to "Fix Our Streets" several years ago. I wonder what happened.

I've been tipping rather well lately, with pothole money mohahaha
I have a small shop for suspension and alignment repair. Been a very good year.

I'm not exempt though I've ruined 2 rims this year, and have a nice new rattle in the front left area, on one vehicle.

Austin may have the worst road network ever. I feel your pain.
