Arrived today in time for a round tomorrow...

IMG_5883.JPG.ad0557c3c56a1435614475d14c13969b.JPG

No need for a 5 iron, as this 6 iron is the same loft as my old, outgoing 5 iron 😉

Please & relieved they do feel as good as they were reviewed, and as i hoped the MMT shafts seem to be what I like (i've always been diamana Blueboard fan and user, and now use Ksi'Li Blue in driver & 5 wood). The 80S is fine - i;d been using 100gm Nventix shafts for many years, so happily the lower weight seems fine after one quick range test.

The black Lamkin midsize Z5 grips look lovely... but i had to buy a leather glove for the round tomorrow - I usually use Bestgrips with no need for any glove, and am moving to their midsize Microperf. They're out of stock til after Xmas... but they'll be ordered and fitted asap, asap... ooof. I'm back to work offshore for a month from New years eve onwards so only have to survive with plastic grips for a few rounds i hope.

The old set were used for 12 or 14? + years... will have to go back and check. I also have the 4 iron and 19 degree hollow Epon driving iron not pictured in the group photo below of the new Christmas gift to myself and the outgoing set of precious beauties, Epon AF-301 in copper chrome

I am definitely a diehard PXG guy. But those Epons in copper are SWEET !!!!!!!!

The MMT 80's are great shafts, I've been playing them for probably 4 - 5 years now. Very smooth with great dispersion. Also even thought the shaft says "80" they actually weigh 86 grams.

please share the pictures after refinish.

What kinda of shaft do they have?

So I didn't end up doing that much of a refinish on them.  I did the usual cleanup process that starts with using a paste I make up consisting of really fine grit glass cleaner a friend gave me long ago, and water, then giving them a light scrubbing with 0000 synthetic wool.  Strip the paint in-fill, then a 30 minute shot in the ultrasonic cleaner.  In this case it was an orange degreaser agent with a sprinkle of some fine powder cleaner.  They came out with a slightly darker appearance that I really like.  Several sets of Bridgestone/Tourstage heads I've built have this same darker chrome look too.

I built them with Bassara W 50 HY shafts.  I really like the combo of a lighter weight/flex shaft with a smaller-headed forged iron.  Works well with my old man speed and smooth tempo.

I was also surprised how small these heads are.  I did a quick perimeter tracing of the TW717V 7-iron compared to a Mizuno MP14 7-iron.  Nearly identical blade length, just a bit taller.

And lastly...I decided to grab a set of TW717M heads to build up too.  5-10 iron.  Should make a fun combo set with the V heads.

I like the darker finish.

Honma forged irons are fine irons.  Timeless for those appreciate them.  They feel like older Mizuno's.

Enjoy your Christmas gift.

Wilson Staff 3 iron. While I totally didn't need it, I was made an offer I couldn't refuse. I will clean it up, bore it out to .370 and put a sweet shaft in there for fun.

Getting real tired of the nylon skinned bags for durability.  Spent a couple weeks searching for a solid replacement with real staying power.  Stumbled across an XXIO cart bag in the local PGA Tour Superstore, but it was part of a complete $2600 set and not available separately thru them.  A quick Amazon search and some internal debate later, this is headed to our winter apartment next week.  Real pleather and thick with lots of storage without the 14 way club separators that end up annoying me with club binding.  Should work well with the new powered cart.

I really wanted to like the new Sun Mountain mid-stripe cart bag, but the top is severely slanted in favor of an electric riding cart. It wouldn't work with my e-push cart as the wedges wouldn't drop all the way down, riding on the front plastic grab bar.

Thought long and hard about ordering a Bridgestone Enamel cart bag from Japan, but the shiny surface and huge logos killed that.

Got a couple new clubs recently. Been looking for a decently Bertha Mini for a couple seasons now and finally found one at a local golf shop for under a hundred bucks. It had a standard length driver shaft in it so I cut that down 2 inches to 44 inches. Feels pretty good.

I also found a Nike Method s1-12 Counterflex for a decent price. I had one last year but got rid of it for some reason. Been tracking one down the past little bit and finally pulled the trigger on this one. Had to put a new grip on it because the original grip was flaking pretty bad. I love the way the head feels on these and the weight is pretty perfect for my taste.

Wanted a whitish bag but easy to clean and not blow my wallet. Found this old Nike staff bag (but I think it is a mini staff, since not as wide when compared to my full Mizuno staff bag) that has a plasticized surface so super easy to clean. Only cost me $100 CDN. Fully working no rips, no busted zippers, no funky smells. Fits on my 4 wheelie cart.

In addition to the two sets of Honma TW717 irons, I also did a bit of Christmas splurging on this set of Fourteen TC888 iron heads.  These took a couple extra days to arrive from Japan, but gave me something to build over the New Year's weekend.

Decent overall shape, just needed a bit of cleaning in the ultrasonic machine, some repainting etc.  I've played them the past couple of morning, and really dig them.  They have a taller face height, but a fairly short blade length.  The sweet spot seems quite big for a compact cavity back iron.  Lovely feeling off the center, especially since I'm using Callaway Supersoft balls early morning when it is cold.  Still need to turn down the ferrules, I had removed my 1" sander off the bench last week and didn't get around to remounting it.
