I was selected in the Cleveland newspaper's 4th annual "Summer Solstice Challenge" which the point is just to play as many holes as you can on the longest day of the year. I was selected as 1 of 6 people out of a pool of 200. I just wondered if anyone else has ever done something like this? Does anyone have any advice on what to bring, what to do to combat fatigue, or any other things to keep in mind? The course is providing all of my food, drinks, and a cart. I am 28 years old and in good physical condition, but I guess I am most concerned with sun exposure and hand blisters. I know I will be needing sunscreen, a big hat, an extra glove, and some athletic tape. I am really excited to be participating and I will try to come back and share some pictures and updates with you all.

maybe even try wearing 2 gloves, one for each hand. Make it a point to drink more than usual too. Sometimes in these things we simply forget and when you remember it is too late. So, put a mark on your card so you remind yourself when scoring. I entered for a chance to play on the 100 holes for kids campaign and hope to be able to play next year. I spoke with some of the guys that have done it and that is what they do.

Try not to hit driver on every hole and don't go for the green on the par 5's all the time. Also, hitting from the fairway is a lot nicer on the fatigue than hitting from the rough or sand. ;)

Play well and good luck

Extra Socks, maybe shoes, big hat, sunscreen, sun glasses, couple of gloves (maybe even one for the other hand).

I did this last year with my brother on our own. The golf course is 60$ to play all day and includes lunch so it's awesome haha. Love doing it. Was sore the next day but not overly (25 years old kind of athletic). We are doing it again this year on Saturday the 21.

Forever Changing at this point.......

Sounds like a ton of fun. Just sip and nibble all day. Definitely glove both hands and some Nexcare waterproof sports tape for the fingers, extra clothes, and a few pairs of shoes and socks. Insect repellent as well. Play well and have a good time.

Good thing your not in California, you would be lucky to get in 18 in 16 hours.,,, hahah. On a more serious note, I have played 72 holes many times walking, and the biggest problem is always the feet. Bring extra socks and shoes and you will be fine. The rest of my body is always fine, just the feet get sore. One more tip would be minimise your practice swings that will keep you fresher longer.

The last time i played that many holes I was 50 or 51, so you should have no trouble at all being only 28.

Have fun.

I'm dead serious. To avoid chaffing bring baby powder with you and when you go to the washroom dump some down under. If your afraid of the powder trail use baby diaper cream between the legs of the boys and lower cheeks. Trust me.... its anti chaffing genius right there.

Good call on this one. Chaffing can definitely be a problem. This is really good advise.

Thank you kind sir. Just trying to pass on tips in the constant fight against chaffing. So far 2014 has been chaffless.

Thanks for all the help guys. It seems like its going to be a blast. I definitely appreciate the points about chafing. Its all about moisture management. I am going to bring gold bond and this stuff I have for running called BodyGlide. Also going to stay away from anything cotton the whole day. I think that is going to be the key. The course provides gatorade, snacks, and meals, so I should be all set from a food standpoint, but I am going to be extra careful and stash some almonds and beef jerky in my bag.
The point is to play as many holes as possible and the most anyone has ever played is 91. Not that we are supposed to rush through the experience I just think part of the "cool factor" to the paper/sponsor is that they can write about how many holes we played in one day.

This is good info so all add to it...Gold Bond is 100 times better than regular baby powder.

Also some hand towels (like in your bathroom) soaked in a cooler full of ice and water go a long way to a nice little refresher...wipe down all exposed areas to wash off the dirt and get a nice cooling effect.

Socks, socks socks and an extra pair of shoes. I've played 54 holes several times his year and all of those things helped immensely

Anyone have any experience with those chilly pad towels? I was thinking about picking one up to keep in my cart.

I have and wasn't impressed, granted it's hot down here in Central Texas but I didn't think it was all that effective. A hand towel in the bottom of the cart cooler filled with water and ice is how to do it !!!

My experience was opposite of npark's above. I use one pretty much all weekend out here in AZ and definitely tell the difference in how much cooler I feel and how longer I can stay outside working. Worth the investment if you can find it locally at a Camping Supply, Bass Pro (where I got mine), although Amazon has them cheaper per towel I believe.
