Going back to my Adams Cb3 irons...pics added...Tour satin Cb3 & Rip tour 115 shafts.

I recently just picked up a set of Callaway Apex irons, and while they are excellent clubs and probably rank as one of the best looking set of clubs I have ever owned, I just don't hit them as accurately as I did my Cb3 irons. The problem I had with the Cb3 irons was the excessively high ball flight and spin. I also had some swing weight issues with them coming in at D8 or D9 throughout the entire set. I am looking for some suggestions on irons shafts that will help me keep the ball flight and spin in check while keeping the swing weight down as well. My swing speed with a 6 iron is right at 89 mph and I am a bit of a digger. I have in mind either the c taper lite or even the standard c taper in the 120 stiff. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Update: no shaft suggestions needed, as I have went with the Aldila Rip Tour 115 shafts. Great feel and awesome ball flight. Pics added below.

What shafts are in them now? Are you certain that those swingweights are correct? I've never seen a set of Adams irons with swingweights that high from the factory.

I originally had a set of cb3 irons with the kbs tour 120g shafts but recently on a whim purchased another set with ctaper 120 stiff shafts. I was worried originally about getting the ball flight high enough but that really has not been an issue. Flight is a bit lower but still no trouble holding a green with the long irons. Cb3 is a great head and the ctaper makes these irons point and shoot for me. Loving the combo

Can't help you with the swing weight issue, but if you have the original KBS 90's in your set, almost anything else will spin less.

I reshafted mine with PX Flighted from KBS 90's. Not sure what the original swing weight was, but the P/X's came in at D8 also, which was definitely heavier than I am used to.

Heavier shafts really had a dramatic effect on the character of the CB3's. A bit lower spin and much more solid feel. I considered experimenting with counter balancing them to offset some of the swingweight, but after using them for awhile, I really don't even notice it anymore. Great sticks.

I am leaning towards the c taper 120s shafts, and maybe playing them .25-.5 shorter than standard (I am 5'6") in hopes that will keep the SW in check. I liked the feel of the s300, but in that head they spun too much and really had a tendency to balloon into the wind.

I have a set of CB3's in my backup bag with Project X flighted 6.0. I don't know the exact swingweight, but they are definitely heavier than they were with the KBS Tour 90. I did go a little heavier with the tip weights in the 7-pw, also. Love the ball flight with them now, they're definitely a lot easier to flight down. Especially with the heavier short irons.

Bought mine with the KBS Tour90's and they just weren't for me since I'm already a pretty high ball hitter. Reshafted with DG S300, definitely liking them a lot better now.

After doing quite a bit of research, I think I have narrowed it down to going with the c taper 120s shafts in the cb3 irons. I think with the cb3 heads being a more game improvement head with a wider sole, the c tapers will be the best choice at keeping the ball flight and spin in check.

If you've never hit c-tapers before, you should before you buy. The feel isn't for everyone. I have my CB3's with DG S300's at D3 swingweight.

I may be changing my mind on the shafts....I have been doing additional research, and have narrowed it down to either the C Tapers 120s or the Aldila RIP Tour 115 iron shafts. I have a buddy that is a phenomenal iron player and he had these, but did not spin them enough and is switching over to Steelfiber shafts for a little more spin. He said that besides the low spin, these were the best shafts he has ever hit......period. He said they are extremely straight, and pretty much that is what I have been reading on all the reviews. Hopefully a good set pops up on the bay here soon.

I need to bring this one back. I took my CB3's out again and the X100 are ballooning on me. I am almost tempted to go px 6.0 because i always had that boring flight with them but the last time i ran them i hurt my wrist (also had a case of hosel rockets too)

The RIP tour 115 graphite shafts are AWESOME in these heads. I had a problem with my past set of cb3 irons ballooning on me...I had s300, PX 6.0, C Taper s+ (ssx1) and of course the stiff as a wet noodle stock KBS tour 90 shafts that came in them originally. My current set of cb3 irons are the tour satin heads that seem to be a bit softer than the retail black cb3 heads.....(that also may just be the graphite shafts). I picked up a set of the heads on eBay for $250 and found the shafts in stiff brand new 2-pw for $220. Best $470 I have spent regarding a set of irons. I not only am hitting my irons nearly a full club longer, I am getting better dispersion as well. Bar none, this is the best set up I have ever had in my bag.

I stumbled across a club builder out of Indianapolis that had a new set sitting in his shop that a client had ordered and changed his mind. I had been watching eBay for a set of these and missed an auction for 3-pw pulls and I contacted the seller and he turned me onto his club guy out of Indy. Just got lucky. The neat thing is, the guy I bought them from built irons for a lot of tour players including Payne Stewart.......I spent about 20 minutes on the phone with him talking about who he had built clubs for.....really interesting.

Thanks, the pics do not do them justice by any means.....before someone comments, yes those are Callaway Lamkin grips.....I had a full set of the grips laying around in the garage from my stint with the Apex irons.
