Aaron Baddeley - New Grant Waite Swing

Hstead

Recommended Posts

Anyone else really liking Badds' new swing? I am not sure how long he has been working with Grant but man does his motion look simple. I really liked it. It appears he is going to start playing very well. He is one of if not the best putter on Tour so if he gets his long game in order look out. Maybe a major in his future?

This swing is from the 2014 Northern Trust Open a few months ago. Like I said, not sure when Grant started making changes but it looked really good yesterday I thought.

I've always liked Badd's swing, no matter who he is working with. The fingerprint never changes...
Yes. Didn't he have his best success with S&T? Since Grant also has a lot of background in S&T, I wonder if Grant's coaching is more inline with his fingerprint.

He's worked with some great teachers. How can you not love a teacher with the knowledge of Grant Waite, who could also walk the walk...

Grant should have a vast amount of knowledge given that he bounced from instructor to instructor himself throughout his career. I am not sure what walking the walk means but Grant has been anything but a huge success on tour. He has one win and not many top tens in about 420 starts.
Yeah I seen what you mean. Grant was Turrible. He only won once and came in second 5 times. Heck he barely made over a million in his best season in 2000, $1,142,789. He only has 29 top tens on the big Tour and 6 on the Web.com. He only made the cut in about 60% of the tourneys he teed it up in.

I would be surprised if he was half as good as the guys on this site in reality. I bet he hasn't even won a club championship or anything really big like qualifying for the State Am or anything.

He is the most accomplished teacher that actually knows anything about teaching, by far. Not saying that is necessarily critical for being a good teacher, but there's no one else that can hold a candle to him achievement wise that teaches and knows their stuff.

I also believe Grant is seen more along the lines of someone like Mac O'Grady in terms of being a well known and respected as a ball striker. I've heard Tiger Woods mention Grant as having one of his favorite swings.

I saw his practice swing drill, he was like letting his left arm go way out infront on himself, like an in to out move. Dont see many pro's working on that sort of stuff, usually the other way around, Tiger and kuchar swinging left stuff.
I watched the tournament and I think the commentators got it wrong, I don't thing he was doing this to get the feeling of arms in front. Reason being is that this is one of the drills that Mike Bennett got me doing when I attended his academy, doing this is to help eliminate pulling it from the inside too much, extending both arms down better, creates more lag, helps start the path down the line better. While doing this I also try to get the feeling of the elbows touching one another. Not sure how well I explained this but this is what it does for me.

Tiger made that comment before Grant went to SnT, plus Tiger has also said he wants the backswing of Justin Rose, lol.

I didnt listen to the commentators, I just saw him doing it. If the left arm was going out away from his chest.

Look at waite's swing now and how he hits it and tell me you wouldn't die for it. Yeah that's what I thought. There are many PGA pros that would make a ton more money if they could hit it like that.

Yeah, total hack...

Everybody here thinks they know more than the most respected players/teachers. It's why I stopped participating, and makes me wonder why I jumped in here. Too funny,

Ian Baker Finch who is a good friend of Badds was saying HIS coach Chris Como was with him !
Both Chris and Grant Waite are working together to teach him. They just started doing the same with Trevor Immelman as well.

doesnt Grant work with that Mayo guy, I saw an article by joe Mayo a few months back where he was telling amateurs to hit up on the ball with irons, his trackman said it would go farther. Title of the article was hit up on your irons, lol, good luck with that. He is approaching it from too much of a scientific standpoint. Most am's already hit up on their irons and top them

^ This. Badd's has always had about the simplest looking swing on tour, yet with decent power. Always a head scratcher as to why his ballstriking stats have been mediocre at best. He's been in the bottom 10-20% in GIR stats almost his entire career.

I know, right? The common criticism of the newer coaches that actually teach and don't just spout out BS and pray their player gets better, is that "well what are their playing achievements, they don't have any." 1) Not even necessary to be a good teacher in my mind ( Haney Leadbetter and Harmon have very little playing credentials, about 1/100th of Grant) and 2) When we finally get a dude that was a PGA tour player for a long time, can teach well and truly help people, they still complain. I'm not sure what the problem is. Are they not going to be happy until Tiger and Jack are teaching?
