I hate guessing yardages when their is markers so I couldn't imagine playing or watching that tournament. I would just watch soccer or the LPGA

I would rather watch the players be allowed rangefinders instead. Much faster.

I was lucky enough to play a round with Mark Roe (former European Tour player) a few years ago. No yardage book, nothing but 150 yard posts on the edge of the fairway. He was within 3 or 4 yards of pin high everywhere. Frightening how good he was with his distance control. I can imagine that they might struggle a bit to begin with, but with a little practice at looking at flags and estimating distance, I bet they'd be pretty good.

While watching the NCAA Golf Championship the first thing I noticed was how the rangefinder slowed the game down. Those coaches literally pulled their players out of pre-shot to double, triple, and quadruple check the yardage.

Tour golf with rangefinders: Caddie, shoot the pin, shoot the lip of the bunker, shoot the tree at the back of the green, then change the batteries and shoot them all again to make sure they double check.

There is a senior tour player at my club and he plays practice rounds and never uses a yardage book or rangefinder. He doesn't go looking for sprinkler heads or ask anyone who is using a rangefinder.

Hits it right at the flag and fairly close. Guess that's why he's on the champions tour.

Yes, I'd like to see that too. Might take away the robotic 171.5 yards to the hole, let's put the mechanical 171.5 driving range swing on it. Anything that would bring back shot making instead of just straight shots with technological training wheels.

One day, I'll learn how to make a shot. But until then I'll focus on putting. :(

I have no problem missing the greens from any yardage!

Honestly, I play without "specific" yardages pretty regularly. I don't really think it is that difficult at all. If i'm near 150 and there is a white flag on the green, then its the 150 club. If its a blue flag then its 160. You would probably find that your instincts are better than you think

If on familiar courses these guys would do well. They just play so many different course it would be tough to remember all those holes.

Well, if you took them somewhere they had never seen and they had no access to any help, it might not be as good as some think. It would depend on how many blind shots there were, doglegs, tight landing areas, uphill/downhill, water, rough height, small areas to play to on large undulating greens, and so on.

No yardage what so ever?

on the tee - fairway sweeps right

A: "The green must be over there behind those trees? (dogleg right?)"
B: "Do you think it's a par 4 or par 5?"
A: "You can't ask that question, and besides, I don't know"
B: "Nevermind. Your honor, your Honor"

What would it prove?

As a kid I paced off pretty much all my shots and got really good at estimating distance out to about 200 yards, I suspect pro caddies would be far better at it than I ever got.

I don't think there would be a significant change to scoring.
