Guys who make offers then flake...

So is it proper etiquette to advise the community of such behavior- especially when a guy doesn't even have the decency/courage to respond and simply say he changed his mind? I'm growing tired of the growing number of flakes around here- they make an offer- perhaps jeopardizing a transaction with another GolfWrxer who is legitimate- only to disappear and hide vs. simply communicating they've had a change of heart.

This place is full of low-ballets and deal-seekers. I think most of them lack the funds to really make a purchase and love to "window shop". Until a member like this puts money in my account he hasn't bought anything. If another potential buyer comes along and wants the item and drops the money in my account, then the item is his.

I use the old adage "you snooze you lose" when selling items on the BST.

I have held an item at the request of a potential buyer, but there is alway a time limit. Once the limit is met, the item is fair game.

This is very frustrating I agree. Im not sure what to do about it other than block them. I dont say anything publicly to the community.

Yeah just one of those situations that suck. Had a sale last week and had multiple people say they would take an item multiple times actually throughout the few days but as soon as I sent paypal....crickets. Frustrating. Now I sell to whoever paypals me first.

I always tell them "you have until (insert time and date her) to transfer the funds. If funds are not received by then the item is fair game".

My time frame is usually no more than 12 hours.

If another potential buyer contacts me during that time, I advise him of the situation and tell him he has the next opportunity to purchase the item should the first buyer miss his window of opportunity.

Happens to me all the time, had three different people do it this week alone. Not surprisingly, all very new user accounts or people with 1 post/0 feedback - something along those lines. Honestly if I get a handful of PMs all at once I reply to the more established members first. Its not worth posting the names of - we would clog the forums up.

I'm also amazed at the number of buyers who get an offer then immediately close their listing. DO NOT CLOSE YOUR AD until you have received funds and the transaction has been closed.

Definitely not something you should broadcast to others... They didn't fraud anyone, being flaky when no goods or funds are exchanged isnt something that people need to be aired out for.

I don't think I have ever been guilty of backing out of a deal, but of course there is a first time for everything and today was that day.

No sooner had I sent an offer to a guy on a putter and we were working out the details, I get a call that a family member needs me to help them out, which in turn cleaned out my PayPal funds (hopefully only temporarily).

I actually felt really bad about sending the message to the seller saying I had to back out. I explained it was a family thing so hopefully he understands.

At least you notified the seller that you had to back out. Many, like the ones discussed n this thread, don't extend that common courtesy.

Yeah I drained the PayPal and then sent him a message right after just in case there was someone else waiting. Still feel bad about it.

I'll never understand why people can't take 2 minutes to just send a message. Whether it is a seller saying the item has shipped, or a buyer changing their minds or negotiating a deal. If you are online, it doesn't take long at all.

With the Golfwrx app, it is simply so easy to check/respond to messages. There is no excuse for not responding to someone after they were the first to contact. Takes about 2-3 minutes of your day.

I understand if i send a message to someone that he may not check it for some time or may not have the time to be on WRX, but if you sent me the original message and I respond, then WTF is how i usually feel.

I actually may just start responding to people that dont answer my response to their inquiry with a simple "WTF" - if they block me its probably in my best interest anyway.

it's used golf equipment, it's low priced... you're going to get flakes and doofuses

the lower price the item has, the flakier the guys trying to buy them are going to be. when you break it down, your "customers" are the guys who think $115 for a wedge, or $400 for a driver or ....... is just out of the budget...... guys trying to get something for close to nothing.....

This has never really bothered me. There's a really simple solution. Just sell the item to whoever gets you the money first.

I know I'm on at least one persons sadly, he responded to a WTB ad with something that wasn't on the specific list I had and instead of a simple no thank you I decided to tell him to learn to read, wish I could take that back!

What about messaging someone for an item on the BST and not getting an answer? Ad shows no signs of the item having been sold, ad isn't closed, etc.

A simple "sorry item is sold" would be nice

The worst is the guys who make an offer, you say yes and give your paypal, and then they come back and say "ok, let me go and sell some stuff to get some funds". Which means you'll never hear from them again.

Yup happens every listing I put up. Most recently a Miura K grind wedge. I had 4 offers within the first 45 min of listing. All 4 buyers went dead silent. Ended up selling the wedge to a good buddy for an insane low price, tired of dealing w/ the flakes/lowballers.

Well, that describes me to a certain extent. Obviously new here, and trying to determine what the expectations are around communication. I can see that people have read an IM, but get no response at times. So, still learning the ropes on how offers are considered and responded to around here.

Not worth the effort IMO.

Just don't even bank on a deal till the cash is in hand.

Don't "wait till payday" or till some funds "clear" etc.

Give a deadline, PP by the end of the day or move on to the next buyer. It's just business.

I am frustrated right now. I am 2.5 hrs from opening a thread and a paypal case on a seller who has 250 of my dollars. apparently no one, on earth near him, had a box for a club.. then he said he would send it as "humanly possible".... then he says "tonight ( yesterday 6/26) I will refund you 10 of your dollars for the delay to make good..." (which I have not seen yet) now it is in the hands of this "secretary to mail out." Supposedly I will be able to track it today... if not my frustrations will be unleashed. The only thing holding me together, besides sheer muscle, skin and tendons... haha yeah right, is the fact that he sent me a valid tracking number.... which, is not really evidence other than he printed postage of a club he didn't weigh yet....because there was no box....

It's frustrating but unfortunately part of doing deals in the BST. I had a couple this week ask if I would accept $$, I responded either yes or with a little bump to their price and provided paypal info and never heard from them again. Others were great at continued communication on what they wanted or needed to do, etc

Joey2aces, wow, just wow. Maybe I should post some empty boxed for sale on the BST. Sounds like a niche market. Sorry to hear you are having this issue and I'm sure it will get resolved with the package shipped to you. Agree, if you don't have a way to ship it immediately, don't post it on the BST.
