Do you Scotty Cameron Newport owners also own a Ping Anser?

The first putter I bought was a Ping Anser 2 stainless in high school for $75. I wanted a Scotty Cameron but I couldn't afford it at the time. Eventually, I was able to get a Newport 2... then another... then another... and you know how it goes.

 

These days, I'm back down to 1 putter, but when things aren't going well, I wonder whether an affordable Ping Anser 2 wouldn't be a nice change of pace, especially since my TeI3 is all original and I don't want to spoil it by regripping with a Pingman. It would be similar to my Newport 2 yet different. This urge was stoked when Martin Kaymer won the U.S. Open with a Karsten Series Anser 2, the same putter he used to win the PGA in 2010.

 

For those of you who have both, is there any merit to this idea or am I just being a ho, especially since Kaymer isn't actually a good putter according to Strokes Gained - Putting?

I dont own a Scotty but I do own an origional Anser circa 1972 I bought new. I switched back to it from my old Zing 2 circa 1992 did not have anything to do withKaymer winning the US Open. As far as stats I dont pay any of that any attention all I say is that he putted well enough to win and that is what counts! Heck I would not care if it was a Wally World $15 Knight putter if you can putt with it more power to you!

I keep an old Ping Answer I've had since my high school golf team days back in the early 80s. I've not gamed it forever, but it has never crossed my mind to get rid of it.

I own a handful of Scottys (mostly old carbon heads, few SS) and always wanted a ping putter so I put in a few bids on the bay and now I own two. I picked up a Ping Anser milled that I put a blackout ping man on, an a Ping Anser 5 that I put a midnight 2.0 on. Haven't had the chance to roll either on a green yet.

Edit: my gamer is a Scotty classics newport with the sight line on the topline. Two strips of 1 inch lead tape on the sole and a SS Flatso Ultra grip.

I have the Ping Anser Milled 0 with sound slot and no sight line/dot. Although I don't own a Scotty, I have hit quite a few of them and I like the Ping better mostly due to the feel that sound slot gives me (I like clicky mmm) and the lack of aid helps me align much better.

I recently picked up a Patent Pending Anser 2 and a dalehead. They cost me $40 in total.

I have an Anser 2 bronze I've had since 1989 and am not likely to sell it as it has some sentimental value. I've had the lie angle adjusted to ensure it matches my regular putter. It is currently in my house and every now and then I'll drop a ball on the carpet and practice my grip and starting the ball on intended line for 5 minutes or so. A potential problem with this is that the head weighs about 20 grams less than the putter I'm currently using and I'm starting to prefer the feel of the lighter head...

The only Scottys I currently have are a Studio Style 2.5 and a Studio Stainless Newport (great feeling putter, one of the really underrated Cameron lines). In the past, I've had an oil can Newport that I still regret letting go, and various Coronados and Lagunas.

I also have my old trusty 029 Anser, a Scottsdale Anser remake, a couple of Anser 2 patent pendings, and an Anser Milled 0.

The Scottys don't roll the ball any better than my Ansers. There's something about an Anser 2 that I've always loved- I think its the lettering on the bumpers. It just looks perfect. The 029 Anser is loaded up with lead tape in the cavity and on the sole. It feels better than any of the others- Ping or Scotty. Just very very solid. I'll never let it go. I've had it since the mid 80's.

Having said all that, I'm currently gaming a Scottsdale TR Shea H. Those grooves are no joke.

I've owned several of both over the years. The last Scotty I owned was about 2 or 3 years ago. I now currently own only a Ping 1959 Anser 2 and a Ping Milled Anser 2. Nothing against Scottys, I just find I have had better success with Ping putters. No clue why at all. They just fit my eye perfectly. I know Anser/Newport are supposed to be the same, but I feel like ping gets every single aspect perfect when it comes to headshape, bumpers, curves,etc. With that being said I definitely would NOT hesitate to pick up an Anser putter. The cheaper versions are excellent and even the anser milled series can be found for really good prices now. Either would be perfect for having something "different" to look down at when your putting goes bad. Good luck!

i own both but its pretty hard to go back to the anser after using the scotty. i have plenty of other pings i use tho.

I've owned both and they are both good putters. Sold my Anser that I bought is the early 80's and have kicked myself ever since. Now I have a black Anser Redwood milled that has a terrific feel to it.
I have several different Newports and Newport 2's from Scotty. Mil Spec's are probably my favorite (I have 2), along with the 009's.
Kari's DD-201, Mill Trad and Trad 2's, and Byron's Dh-89 are no slouches either. Some of my favorite putters.

They can all thank Karsten for the head shape though. He was the master.

I had an TR Anser 2 before my Newport 2.5, i like the solid feel i get from the Scotty. I just never got along with the TR insert, a great putter as well.

I have to say that that milled Anser above feels better than all but four of my Scotties, the ones pictured above.

I putted briefly with the Redwood Anser, and it felt very nice, though did I really need another "nice" feeling putter, lol?

I won the Anser above.

To me it's a coin flip, and WTH, a Scotty is a Scotty, so it wins, lol.
