Best App for stat tracking

Recommended Posts

Exactly what I was going to ask.
I was using GolfLogix but after the last update the app didn't open anymore and since I bought a laser range finder I don't need the GPS distances anyway. My phone probably couldn't handle the numerous ads any longer...... Uninstalled!

I'd like to keep up on my driving distances as well and while FW, GIR, sandsaves etc. are easily remembered after the round I would probably need to enter the length of the drives while on the course.

There must be a developer out there for this....

D - TaylorMade Stealth2 HD 9°, Tensei AV blue 65, x-flex
F - TaylorMade SIM2 15° & 19°, Tensei AV blue 65fw & 60, s-flex
H - TaylorMade SIM2 22°, Tensei AV blue 80hy, s-flex
I - Mizuno MP-20hmb, 5-PW, Dynamic Gold 120, S300
W - Mizuno T22, 50° 56° 62°, Dynamic Gold 120, S300
P - Mizuno M-craft OMOI 3
B - Vice Pro

Whats the best app for keeping track of your basic stats? FW, GIR, Putts, Up and Down %, Sand Saves, etc??

I would prefer to enter this info after the round and not during

I installed mScorecard.
After 6 rounds it seems to do what I need it to do.
And it was free!

I have downloaded it on my iPhone and, while it is a cool app, the extra 70/80$ a year over golfshot is absolutely not worth it to me.

shotbyshot looks to be along the same lines of what I'm waiting for, which is Broadie's Strokes Gained app. I'd rather not have to build a spreadsheet, hence the attractiveness of the app. I used Scorecard from Cynical Peak for several years. I liked the fact data was on my desktop. But I also have learned that FW hit doesn't tell me all that much. Plus it's main focus is ease of use so there is a bit of a compromise on some stats.

And while it's great they are a sponsor, unless I am missing something, I'm not seeing enough from Get Real Golf Stats to justify the annual fee. It looks as though it is simply an extension of the basic stats. And while there is something to be said about GIR when you hit the fairway, breaking it down by distance.....

I really think an app that can encompass the strokes gained stuff into the results is where the gold will lie. As I said, I think shot by shot comes closest in terms of current offerings.

I recommend that you don't track those stats, because they are misleading. The best stat tracking app in my opinion is Golfmetrics, which is used for computing shots gained. It's worth what little it costs and is easy to use. In my experience, it renders a far more interesting and valuable assessment of your game.

A scorecard and pencil works great for me.....then i just put it into a spreadsheet and track each year.......dam...i need to get with the times

Also agree, I think on things like this unless you are really diving into your handicap and looking to play in some serious competitive rounds there's a lot more common sense to it than some think. Fairways, GIR, Putts. Keep it simple, maybe mark your misses but after all of that if you need to know how far you hit the ball etc you're already behind.

Local GHIN (Golf Association of Michigan also) keep as much as I need.

It think it really depends on your desire to improve, not necessarily if you are a competitive golfer or not. Some non-competitve golfers still want to get better while others just want to have fun and couldn't care about scores and stats. If you belong to the former group, tracking and reviewing more detailed stats is a great way to get insights into your strenghts and weaknesses. Once I started tracking more than just FIR, GIR, etc, I was surprised to see where I needed work. For example, my stats showed I am a great lag and short range putter, but the mid ranges 5-15 feet were really weak. Now my practice sessions are much more focused on that range for improvement and I just do a little practice for the other ranges for maintenance. This has allowed me to be more efficient with the limited practice time I have. As I said in another stats thread, the traditional stats (FIR, GIR, Putts, etc) don't isolate specific golfing skills and are therefore too generic to be of great use and have many deficiencies. They may indicate whether improvement is happening or not, but they don't show where that improvement/decline is coming from.

I won't disagree with any of that, I'm actually a fan of data and the importance of using it. I guess my original thought was geared to generic golfers, as the vast majority of people in the game are casual to generic at best. In that essence, the broad stats are enough for them to base judgement on what areas need improved. As a 4 index, I would agree with you that when you boil down the stats within the stats it makes far more sense for us to utilize that information to improve.

I generally don't keep score but like using an app to track club yardage and get an idea of greens hit. I know I am improving because I lose less balls and I hit more greens than 6 months ago.
