Ping G25. Plus or minus or neutral ..what's the best?

What's the general feeling on adjusting the G25 Driver? I have played with adjusting it plus and minus and can't really see a difference in ball flight. I have a 10.5 degree , and for some reason I kept it in the "+" setting because it seems too fly straighter for me however that could be all in my head..what's everyone's hosel position and could u really see a difference in between the three setting..thanks

As with all adjustable clubs there is a setting that is best for you that may not be best for the next guy. If "+" works best go for it.

I have a pretty strong grip and my miss is a sweeping hook

Recently bought my g25 12* back from galaxy and have been playing it in the "-" setting to have a slightly open face at address. Working out very well

I play a draw. I have tried all 3 positions. Didn't see a major difference in any setting but prefer the slightly open face angle in the - position.
**4th setting??

See the post above you, the unmarked side of the adaptor flattens the lie angle. I just read about in on here a few weeks ago.

My 10.5 is in the + position though I usually prefer a square face at address. The + seems to give me a tad straighter flight and a tad more carry, both of which I'll take.
[/quote]

I contacted Ping about how much the club face opens or closes in the + and - settings. They replied that it only changes the face angle by .01 degree. I replied back asking if this was a misprint! Ping said the G25 is engineered so that the face angle is basically unchanged in the +/- settings. Don't know how they do it, but that's what they said.

4th setting? Is this something by design or thru peoples own trial and error? Anyhow I played today after keeping my driver in the + setting , I tried the dot setting and thought I put the same swing on it however it produced a fade for me(left handed player) now, it's probably all in my head but I tried it several times alternating settings between holes, and the plus setting was straighter every time. Then I seen the post on how it changes only .01 degree and I'm completely confused. That minimal adjustment wouldn't produce such a noticeable change in ball flight. Or would it? Anyhow this g25 will stay in the plus setting for the rest of the summer I think. And another quick question...my driver I bought 2nd hand with the Fujikra Blur shaft installed. That shaft is from the anser or i25 I think..and I believe it it be shorter in length than the stock shaft. Would that mean that the driver plays to a flatter lie angle already without the 4th setting? Thanks

I'm not sure if the CS person answering the phone knows what they're talking about. Pretty sure +/- also changes the face angle by 0.5 degrees.

Now the question... does having a face angle 0.5-degree one way or the other even make a difference? Doubt it. The manufacturing tolerance is probably at least 0.5 degrees.

generally, with hosel adjustments, 1 deg loft change results in ~2 degrees of face angle change (and that can make a difference for many).

In theory, it might be possible to design the shape of the sole of the club to negate this face angle change. That's what Cobra claimed with it's "SmartPad" technology.

12*, + setting seems to work best for me. Amazingly, it doesn't balloon at all, but instead produces a penetrating flight. I can still hit a push or a pull from time to time with this combo, but my most likely drive is straight. Really great driver.

10.5 dot setting but recently changed to the "secret" setting.

I don't know if its just me or what but the change has been for the better. I don't seem to hit as many duck hooks as I used to. Probably a lot of mental gymnastic placebo effects more than real active physics going on but my ball flight appears to be better on my missed shots.

What is the secret setting?

My miss right now with my G25 is a huge duck hook. I have it set to Neutral on a 10.5* head.

I read on here last week that the setting opposite the dot setting is a "secret" setting where it sets the club with the same loft as the dot setting but is 1* flat lie angle. The setting would be where there is no designation on the shaft tip.

Seem to recall from doing some club bending of metal woods and drivers on a tour van years ago that many builders based their measurements on each degree of face angle change produced a .6 degree change in effective loft as a general rule.

I've also known this to be the rule of thumb. I remember it because at that time my 9.5* driver that was open 3* gave me an effective loft of 7.7*.
