Hitting my bucket. Starting from wedge and working my way up. Pull my 9 iron and start murdering the ball. I mean, clearing 150 marker. I think, damn, I am now golfwrx distance territory.

Well sounds like you have a good set up if you think your hitting a 9 and your crushing a 6.

I've done that both ways during a round. I check the number twice now before I hit.

I had the opposite problem recently.Thought I grabbed a 9, cleared the green on my approach shot!

(and lets be honest, even though I lost the ball I was a little impressed that I crushed it)

It was on the next hole that I realized my "9" iron was in the wrong spot, It was a 6. UGH!

Agreed, but for me its pulling my 56, instead of a 52 because the two do not look drastically different over the ball. Never a 6 iron over a 9! I love it!

I've pulled the wrong club before and realized it before I hit the shot......I was just too lazy to walk back to the cart to get the right club so I tried to make it work. Playing the bump and run and trying to roll it close from 145yds will almost never work out the way you want it to.

I was on a streak last year where I would be getting out of the cart to walk to my ball, typically grab my "S" and "L" wedge, and realize I had the "S" and 7 iron. doh!

i've done the same thing too. don't know how didn't notice at setup, but i had the same reaction you did., "damn it was the 6."

Ive totally been there before..... The worst is grabbing 2 or 3 clubs to go find your ball figuring one will work only to find the ball in a spot that none will.

I did it in a tournament once. 145ish into a par 5 for my third shot, middle of fairway, and just pured it dead straight, across the road behind the green and......OB. I have no idea how I didn't realize it when I was over the ball, just one of those stupid moments. They were MP-52's at that, so the had the line under the number.

Happened to me as well. I had 177.8 to the pin..pured my tee shot..and I see it go exactly 14.7 yards long. Hit my 5 instead of a 6.

You would think there's no way you can mistake a 6 for a 9 or vice versa but once you "think" you have grabbed the "right" one you it's like planting a subliminal message or hypnotizing yourself and you somehow see it as the right club. That is.. until after you hit a distance that makes no sense, then the "spell" is broken lol.

For the record I hit a 9 thinking it was a 6..the lie was above my feet so my mind rationalized how short the club felt by doing some strange math.

6 and 9 should be very visibly different in loft. I guess I see this at the range, but on the course? this should never happen

I had the same problem. I couldn't get my 6 iron past 190. Kept hitting and hitting and even had a buddy check to see that my swing wasn't screwed up. It was straight but not going ANYWHERE. Finally I look down and I had my 9-iron by mistake. Crisis averted!

Haha I've been there before. Switched from Ping Zing 2 s to a set of Taylormade Burner irons and thought I was killing the 9 iron. Then I realized that Ping underlines the 9 and the burner was vice versa.

I wish this was BS, but sadly totally true. First hole, 145 out, hit a nice smooth shot with what I thought was my 9i and it takes off like a rocket. Look at the bottom of the club... 4i. Don't ask me how I didn't realize it based on length of shaft alone, let alone loft. Guess I just wasn't mentally into my round yet or something. Crazy...

Here's how I think that happens. You decide on a club, reach for it, but you don't watch it into your hand. Just like a receiver who starts looking upfield instead of watching the ball into his hands. When your hand is a foot from the club you look away, and end up grabbing the one next to it.

I don't carry a gps or rangefinder. On a short par 3 hole paying the whites, I looked at the distances on the card but read the blue distance, cleared the green by about the same distance as the blocks were apart.

I've pulled the wrong club too: more than once I have walked to the green with my driver and walked to the tee with my putter. Seriously.

Anyone hit at a range with "Limited Distance" balls? If you are not aware of the limitation, it feels like suddenly you have lost all your power. Fortunately I was curious and checked out the balls after a couple solid hits that barely went past the 100 yard marker.
