Missed putts %, Bad stroke or Bad read?

Just curious what everyone thinks their percentage is when missing a putt, bad read or bad stroke?

For me personally ,I feel like 70% of the putts I miss are due to poor reads rather than a bad stroke

Missed from what distance? You have to be a lot more accurate when reading a 30 foot putt than a 3 foot putt.

If you use a line on your ball, you can see when you hit it square on your line because the ball will roll end over end.

Probably more like 5- 15 feet range , most people are not expecting to make 30 footers at a high percentage

I think mentally, it's better to blame the read. If you're missing by a large margin left or right, it's bad read. If you lip out the put, it's a close read. If you're short, it's a bad stroke.

it's left up to interpretation as long as your not short. If it's short, its the stroke. If not, blame the read.

Duck hook

I saw you over in the Instinct putting thread so I don't have to start at the beginning. I don't care what caused me to miss a putt. Statistically, most are supposed to miss anyway. Especially, outside a certain distance.

You can second guess yourself to the point that you can't make any putts worrying about if I misread it or mishit it. Rory said it at the end of the Open. His swing thought was Process and Tempo. Not sure about the second one. But think only about the process. For me that is behind the hole, move until I feel like that is the right line. Move to the ball and place the putter on the ground, move the face until it feels right. set up and until it feels right. Then focus on the length of the putt or in my case the back of the cup, and pull the trigger with the club moving until it points part way to the hole.

If it went in great, if not, do it again.

You have to be a lot more accurate with your speed on a 30 footer than a 3 footer. And a 3 footer you have to have the line to the center of the cup. Line on a 30 footer is less important because if the speed it wrong it will not go in period, A ball traveling the right speed towards the target, or cup, has a chance of falling in where one that never gets there or bounces over the cup will not go in.

I do have a swing thought on 3 footers. "Firm to the back." Generally there is not time for it to break on a 3 footer.

I can't agree with the idea that short means bad stroke (except on short putts) simply because we have to judge just how firmly to stroke the ball to get it to go the proper distance. ANY breaking putt is always a combination of speed and line. If you don't have both right, it's not going in. I have made many strokes that I felt were perfect only to have misread the speed needed to get to the hole.

My miss-hits are pretty rare (usually late in a 36 hole day), My missed putts are typically a miss read on speed and not line. Not that I'm missing them bad though, usually leave within 3' max. Super slick down-hillers excluded, of course. the occasional miss-read on line is with subtle breaks.
