(Cobra) Driver Rant.

I've owned some of the loudest drivers ever produced - SQ2 5900 - MX560 - and am happy to be using the L4V again. It's really still as good as any driver out there - and I like my drives to at least sound powerfull...

Out of all of these, the X/Speed 9.5 is my favorite. Any one of them could make your ears bleed though.

This winter I was down in Florida for business without my clubs and the range I hit at had an F-Speed Driver. I had several Cobras as a kid but I guess I never had the speed to really experience the loudness of those heads. I wasn't hitting it any farther than 280 but about 10 balls into it I had three or four people turned around watching me like I was Jason Zuback or something. It was pretty funny. Also had the Hibore XL and the XLS both with VS Proto's and they were the best performing drivers I ever played. Unfortunately they sounded and felt terrible while also being ugly as sin.

I remember the Cobra drivers from the mid - late 90's as a junior. One of the kids at my club got a Ti (photo below) with the dimples in the crown and the odd bulge in the hossel.

 

 

I think a couple of years before that we had the original King Cobra. I think this is the one that Greg Norman used around the time of his Masters collapse in '96. They where some great clubs...

That's a great story! Even when I was younger, 260 yd drives sounded like 320yd drives!

I still have a few Sz fairway woods laying around as well as one of their drivers. My 82 yr old grandpa even turns heads when he hits his sz! And it only goes 170!! That's the power of the sound!

I bagged of those for a while and I can remember my ears actually hurting after a range session. I did hit long bombs with it though.

Supposedly the 427 beta ti was the hottest face cobra made. It did get out there pretty well.

Just curious what would be your top 3 favorite cobra drivers?

I'd probably say the l4v, ZL, and the s9-1 pro. Although I really haven't got into their newer stuff mostly because of the whole color scheme stuff. I'm going to give them a chance, I want to come back to cobra after a few year break!

I've got a 7* 427 head that I'm thinking about putting a shaft in to test against my 9064ls. Wonder which would win. And I wonder how I'd hit the cobra now that I hit driver better than I did the last time I hit that club.

Well guys I picked up a beautiful L4v from driverwedge this week and I can't thank him enough. It is long and forgiving!!! And the feel/sound is incredible! I can't believe I walked away from cobra for so long! It is good to be back!

I blame my partial hearing loss on the SZ-440! It was either the Cobra or AC/DC. Angus was loud but the SZ was brutal...

My father in law has this driver and it will be glued to his hands until it finally breaks. He is not a long hitter but he is dead accurate and can work te ball as he likes with that club

I've got a buddy who still plays the L4V. He's tried at least one new offering every year for the last 4 or 5 years, but he always goes back to hit. He hits it 230 right down the pipe lol he's a short knocker, but he still loves the L4V.
