Changing out shafts in long irons only?

I've been playing RazrX forged (2011) since february, PX Flighted 5.5's . I honestly don't like the shafts that much, too harsh and not much margin for error, in some ways the shaft seems like it might be hiding some of the forged head feeling too. I notice this more on the longer irons, 7,6,5 , all have been bent 3 degrees strong to accomodate some wedges I wanted to keep in the bottom end of my bag and to keep my 7 iron as my 150 yard club. I'm contemplating putting something a bit lighter and maybe going down a half flex or so. Dispersion is great , flight isn't too low or anything, hold greens just fine.It's just costing me a little confidence and starting to feel a bit like work when I go to pull a 7 iron. Because I've extended them the swingweights are pretty high right now too, D6, so I'm contemplating maybe even going more upright on the 5,6,7 and then shortening them back a bit or maybe even,gasp,graphite. I hate starting threads like this but if anyone's been in the same situation I could use some insight as to what worked for you, other than 'get fit' , because I know a day spent with a fitter could eliminate me asking but it's only three irons in the bag that I'm unhappy with.

By how much have you extended the shafts?

If it's feel you want, how about Nippon shafts? Very smooth. NS Pro 950GH or 1050GH? Maybe Regular?

Start with one iron. If you like it you could re-shaft all of them

[/quote] I've extended them 1.25" and juiced lofts 3* , my swing plane is a bit flatter due to my height and back issues, a bit Kuchar-esque. I think the 5.5's were around 120 grams in those and since they play stiffer , thinking of just doing the 7 in a TT Lite regular and going from there. I just don't really feel like I can go after the 7 and 6, tough to load up.

I have done graphite in just the 3,4,5 irons of a set of Titleist DCI Black back then with something called Attack LBP (low balance point) by Graffaloy. The idea was to have an 80-90g shaft but with same length and swingweight. I hit the short irons fine so I didn't change (plus I had no $), The graphite/steel combo did make a big difference in the playability of the longer irons where the main goal was good distance and more height.

Since finding the iron shafts that works for me. No such problem anymore. Steel shaft throughout. If I were to get newer irons with ridiculous low lofted longer irons, graphite in longer irons makes sense again. This is my alternative to hybrid.

Your situation is a bit more problematic as you have problem with even the 7-iron. Sounds like a gross shaft mismatch probably a little too stiff and too heavy.

[/quote] Exactly what it is, just a touch of each, stiff and heavy. I can play them as they are but I'm not really enjoying them as I know I could. I've contemplated just trading them for some CB3's or reshafting the most problematic.

I went and picked up a DGSL in regular flex at lunch, I'll be doing the 7 iron tonight.

[sub][size=4]Was able to play nine last night with the newly shafted 7 iron. The weight of the club overall dropped by almost 40 grams.I plan on just doing the 5 and 6 with the SL R300's and leaving the PX5.5's in the PW, 9 , 8 . Range time might dictate doing the higher lofts with SL's too just to keep the gaps right but it felt like throwing darts with just about every club last night. Was 2 under after 4 until I caught up with a threesome that was behind a 4some so I relegated myself to playing 2 balls every hole afterwards and stopped keeping track a bit.[/size][/sub]
