Cc, bore thru on your Hogan tells me it might have been a tour player or atleast played by a Pro. I like it ! That grain ! What shaft ? Is there a band? Have you hit it ?

Hey Fred. It is certainly a Stiff+ shaft. No band on it however. I have hit it a number of times and it feels very nice and I think due to the stiffness of the shaft provides me with a consistent left to right ball flight. She is very pretty, I agree!

Perhaps it's time for you to hold your own Classic Event....

 

As you know.... Ben Hogan Golf Company never made a single LH persimmon wood.

 

On the other hand, MacGregor did make a few LH models with "Ben Hogan" stamped on the crown.

 

As well as Byron Nelson, Jimmy Demaret,....even Toney Penna...Bruce Herd, and Charley Penna too!

I noticed these were different from others I have seen. For example, there is no "Sears" markings whatsoever on these ones where I have seen that in the sole of other models.

 

Nevertheless, these are pretty cool!

I have just been lucky enough to pick up a set of 62/63 Wilson Turfriders irons 3-9 + SW. The PW is not among them. Stories about prices 'picking up' were not reflected in this transaction!

 

They are very good, nice undinked chrome , matt back pad, and very good original two tone leather grips + screw in grip caps.

 

However, they raise a question. The shaft bands are close to perfect. The lower band is black, which should mean a regular flex shaft. The upper shaft band, Wilson Staff Pro, indicates Stiff.

Any explanations or comments, or have I got it around my hat (as usual)

 

ps. I have an early Harmonised PW which will fit the set-up, so I'm not overly concerned about the missing PW.

are the 6 screw hogan drivers rare? and from what era i just noticed one of mine is a 6 screw model

Don't know if they are rare versus let's say a 4 screw pattern but they do look good!

Not very rare Dan. Era is early 80s. The anniversary is from 1978 but that's a different model.

Maybe that means were only sold thru Hogan staff shops. OMeara won his first PGA event in 83 with one. I know the later model had 4 screws. The 6 looks better IMO.

I do not think that this would be for any driver. Mine is not a DFD but is a 6 screw.

I would agree that it is quite likely that the 6 screw model had some tour significance. Freddie pointed out that mine having both 6 screws and also a bore through shaft was likely a build for a tour player. Apparently I am not that player as this is not my favorite persimmon driver to hit within my collection.

 

That would be a fun topic! Post and explain why a particular persimmon driver is your favorite gamer! I will do so when I get back home this weekend!

I could ask Dave Wood, he would know and he would tell me... I will do this later sometime and re post... Mine is very deep, a full 1 and 3/4 inches. exactly and the top score line heel to toe is a tad over 3 and 1/8. Big full face profile.
