Golf Fitness Help

Does anyone have any recommended workout regimens they can point me to? I am mid 40s, used to play to a +2/+3 but basically barely played at all last 5-6 years. Have lost 30 lbs this year while getting a ton stronger but now want to orient some of my workouts to golf specific (strengthening core, better balance, etc.) with an eye to likely returning to competitive golf next summer.

 

Thoughts on programs, etc that people find helpful.

There are a few muscles that are an afterthought in the golf swing that really help. Everyone knows about core an triceps. But with new 3d monitors it has come to light that all the force in the golf club at impact is towards you. Most don't usually feel it but its true. So with that said if you strengthen you "pull" muscles you increase club head speed. Those are shoulder, biceps and back muscles. There are tons of different rows that all work. Pull ups are the best workout for back and bis. But spend more time on those forgotten muscles.

I am by no means a low handicapper... yet... but the following circuit has helped me get some great distance.

Push-Ups
Pull Ups
Bicycle Crunch
Bodyweight Squat
Plank

I repeat this circuit and try to do as many of each as I can without tiring out before completing 5 sets. I used to be involved in boxing and used this circuit to increase muscle stamina and strength. With a boost in those areas, you can hit further and do so for longer amounts of time.

Also, try not to take more than a 30-45 second rest in between exercises.

Has anyone done a TPI assessment and received a golf fitness handicap index? I am probably going to do as I think I am in better physical condition generally but probably have some work golf-specific issues to deal with.

Thanks I do something similar and agree it helps. Also want to focus a bit more though.
