Thanks PGA, but I need to see more. The picture of 8 looks like they need to do some serious work on it, and 17 looks wierd, but then pictures probably can't do it justice either.

I wish people hadn't messed around with the original design, though some of the bunkering looks really, really interesting and well deigned.

The 16 green looks like a bear, especially if you hit it above the hole, makes 9 and 10 at ANGC look flat.

It must be noted that famed architect Gil Hanse (assisted by Geoff Shackelford) did an extensive re-design in 2010 in an effort to restore George C. Thomas' 1921 effort.

I haven't been in the golf sphere long enough, but has the USGA picked bad courses for the US Open?
Congressional and Torrey Pines I would say are the two worst US Open venues that I remember. Both great courses but I don't think they are US Open good.

There was a Golf.com slideshow a while back that listed, I think, "Ten most over-rated courses". Torrey was on the list, as was Congressional. I think Torrey is a great course, but not in the same league as other Open venues. I agree there.

I think the USGA liked the idea of an Open at a Publinks. Same deal with Bethpage Black.

You have never seen a 4 point buck in LA.
Yea, I have.
No you haven't and you have no clue what you are talking about.

But yeah two thumbs up for LACC.

Only on GolfWRX can a thread about LACC hosting a US Open turn into an argument over Los Angeles' native deer population...

Who cares??? ANYWAYS....

I have heard great things about the golf course, I would like to hear thoughts from someone who has played the course and how they think it would hold up as a "US Open" venue.

Nice "Collateral" reference..... :) Great film. One of my favorites. "Must have been one of those South Central deer."

I work at Pepperdine, (Yes, both Putnum brothers and Jason Gore are alumni of our golf team) and people hit deer all the time in and around campus. Sad, really. Not sure how the heck this thread got turned from LACC to smacking deer with cars, but that's GoldWRX :)

Just this morning (Tuesday) I was leaving the San Fernando Valley, driving southbound on the 405, and right around Mulholland I saw a dead deer on the shoulder of the freeway. Looked like it must have been hit by a car.

Being a native, I take that personally! I think Bethpage is a fantastic course, very fit for a major when they grow the rough. Hell, even the short rough is tough to get out of! It's so thick and really grabs the club.

I've heard that about Torrey multiple times now, that it's a course you play once and that's it. Haven't heard that about Congressional though, interesting thoughts.

Bethpage Black is in a class by itself. I didn't mean to say it wasn't worthy of the Open. Not at all. It may be the best publicly-owned course in the country. My point was the USGA probably liked the fact that it, and Torrey, are public courses.

I visted there about 20 years ago when my brother in law lived in North Bellmore. It was an amazing course.

LACC is notorious for not wanting a ton of celebrities. Bel Air on the other hand is notorious for wanting celebrities.

I would love to see a US Open in LA, I would prefer Riviera but LACC would be pretty cool.

Having courses that are PGA Tour caliber or host events and public accessible only helps them them, and golf in general. One of the most coveted rounds you can get is the Monday after a course holds an event.

The USGA has been asking LACC for years to host a US Open which they've politely turned down. I wonder what changed. In any event LACC hosting a US Open would be HUGE. LACC is supposed to be one of the finest golf courses in the world that most people have not heard about.

I love LACC North.

A great day is Riviera in the morning and LACC in the afternoon.

LACC in the afternoon because that is the best time to look over the fence into the backyard of the Playboy Mansion.
