Played Tobacco Road Today (New Greens)

A friend and I made it out to Tobacco Road today for a round. It was only the second time I have played it. I had heard the greens were in bad condition earlier in the year but had not heard they were replacing them. My buddy had never played it and while calling to make a tee time found out they had just re-opened within the last week or so. They have gone with the Mini Verde bermuda and they are in fantastic shape. Rolled very true but are understandably a little firm. Approach shots would barely leave a mark but would stop with a little roll out. ( Hard to know on every green because of blind shots)

The waste areas and dirt paths were in really good shape as they had been just dragged. The fairways were in super shape as well due to no traffic while they were closed. The pace of play was very brisk today as it was not over crowded, much to our surprise. I hope I can make it back there soon to give it another try!

Our Champions Bermuda are 6 years old and barely show ball marks. It's good to hear they aren't hard as a brick.

The local course I play has champion as well and doesn't leave ball marks unless it is really wet. I was not sure if the reason for no ball marks was the grass or what was underneath. Must be the grass.

Great news!! I love Tobacco Road. They've had a hard couple of years with their bent greens.

[/quote]The guy in the pro shop said it took a huge financial commitment from the owners but was well worth it. I'm sure a couple of months with no revenue all the while having to pay labor to the maintenance staff along with the cost of green replacement was huge! I was surprised the greens fee was only $69 for a 10 o'clock tee time!

Got to get back there this fall! I love that golf course and I'm very happy to hear the new greens are in and all is well. Oddly, I never played Tobacco Road where the conditions were even suspect.

We're actually playing there this Saturday and I'm glad to know the greens have healed!

I'm hoping the weather holds out, but even if it does rain, I'll be there!

Tobacco Road is one of my all time favorite courses. Good to hear it is open again.

Great to hear
We really enjoyed it as a 'change of pace' course on our trip to Pinehurst last year; however, the greens were terrible, so it's fantastic to hear they have improved that area.

[/quote]i was wondering if you made it out or not. The weather held off Saturday later than they were forecasting! I had a Saturday filled with errands and birthday parties! Hope y'all have a great time!

I am happy to hear they have improved the greens. We would play there every year in August, and they typically were losing 1/4 -> 1/2 of the greens due to traffic and burnup. Love the course, but can't imagine it playing with a bermuda blend, that slope is going to go through the roof.
