Great day on the links with my Dad

Well had a great day today with my dad on the golf course. I live in Myrtle Beach and my dad got to come down to visit for a few days this week and he brought the sticks down (duh!)

Well today was awesome, he broke 100 for the first time in a big way with a great 92. I shot a great 76, 3 birdies were negated by some bogies, a double and a TRIPLE! I putted great but had a couple squirrelly drivers I shouldn't have. My dad played out of his mind with his irons and driver. Had to have hit 10 greens in reg which is awesome for how little he gets to play. It's always fun playing well while someone else plays well with you.

Anyone else have a day where your cart was playing great?

That's awesome, I miss golf with my dad, he always had a great balance between being competitive and having fun, nice you both played so well.

My last two rounds could not have been at more opposite ends of the spectrum.

Most recent I thought I was going out as a single but was joined by an older gentleman, I was glad to have the company as the course was crowded and he was a fellow walker. He was prepping for the state Sr. Am and shot 75 and I had an 81 with a 9 on 18. Anyway we both urged each other on and it was a fantastic day with both of us hitting some quality shots.

Round before that I was with a buddy who went to the dark side early in the round, I kept joking around telling him there was a black cloud hovering over our cart and that I was going to get him a Xanax at the turn, no surprise we both shot horribly.

Definitely way more fun when your cart is playing well!

I have certainly played plenty of those "dark cloud" rounds as well! Those are rough, but still can be fun with a good sense of humor and some humility.

We played 8 holes today before getting rained out by a thunderstorm. We were having fun and my dad has just striped his drive on #9 when they blew the horns. We will hopefully get some more golf on tomorrow.

It was nice playing well myself but watching him was awesome. I mean he plays maybe 6 times a year and he comes down and was a few putts from breaking 90! It was pretty cool. I had him change his setup a little bit and he was crushing his driver and hitting some really good iron shots.

One of the guys we got paired with couldn't believe he barely ever plays golf. Thanks though, it was an awesome round

I've been playing for over 45 years now.............between a left knee replacement and a right knee that is pending repacement, and age...............my game is nowhere near what it used to be. That being said.................playing with my sons bring me great joy!

Thanks Sean, it was a good time.

Just brought my Dad to airport. Sad to see him leave but I know he had a great time down here for vacation and I can't wait for the next time he comes down here. Hopefully work lets me sneak up to Mass to visit him sooner than later. We never really played golf too much growing up since I was so into baseball and hockey. Definitely will be something we do for a long time now that that is my sport and job.

It's funny because he always had a goatee while I was a kid and now I do and he doesn't. I take it as a huge compliment when people tell me I turned out just like my dad.

He played three rounds in 4 days. Golf is all he's been taking about. I think he finally might have gotten bit by "the bug". I won't be surprised when he tells me he played as soon as he got home

Fantastic Thread & that is a picture for the ages!!

First, to have bogies, doubles and a triple and still come in south of 80, especially 75-76, you must have been hittin the ball!

Well played :)

More importantly, you have, and gave your father, memories for a lifetime!

Very We'll Played Bro!!

Thanks for posting because I like these family threads best of all. Cool as hell :)

Have a great weekend my Friend,

Glad you enjoyed the thread Richard. Couple of brain farts kept me from going low this week (trying to show off for pops?) Followed it up with a 77 the next day, I am happy with how I am hitting the ball right now. Keep the driver in the bag and I could probably get my cap down pretty good.

It was a great little vacation and I can't wait to do it again.

[/quote]LMAO, you may have pushed me over the edge to go with the goatee, lol.

I grew the beard cuz I lost a lot of my hair with the last cancer episode/radiation along with developing the "radiation rash" on my cheeks and chin, so I figured that I'd rather cut it all off myself than have it fall outs in clumps(great reasoning, huh, lol ;) )-

So I grew the beard to "balance" it out, LMAO(Ya see how my reaoning/thinking is goin south, LMAO?)

Well, with this latest radiation, my beard is "patching" on the side, so I'm thinking of going with the goatee.

I just got my afternoon meds and I'm feeling emboldened, LMAO.

I think I'm gonna do it, LMAO

Have a great afternoon :)

I loved my father in law like a father. He died suddenly last year at age 79, and the fact that I'm a pretty old dude myself made me wise enough to really cherish playing golf with him for the past many years. You can not play too much golf with people you love! Good for you, bruinsPATSirish! I'm glad you had a great day.

My father in law Jim broke 90 for the first time, playing totally by the Rules, a few months before he died. Should have seen the gleam in his eye! At his wake, a friend of his came up and greeted me by saying, "So you're the one who got Jim interested in playing by the Rules? I hate you. You ruined him."

Ah, well, you win some, you lose some.

Good story Sawgrass. Since graduating school and moving down south so far from family I have definitely came to many realizations, one being how much gratitude I have for my family and friends being as great as they are.

It is funny you mention playing by the rules. On the first tee my dad hit a pretty bad shot to start and when I offered him the "breakfast ball" he said "Naaa, I am gonna play that one." On his 2nd shot he hit a fantastic iron shot that ended up in a terrible greenside bunker. He make an 8 on the first hole and still ended up with a 92. It was cool to see him play it right and still do well.

Thought you would like that one! He actually plays pro and am tournaments for disc golf, so while the rules aren't the same they are similar and he obviously plays by the book. He asked a lot of rules questions and it was a lot of fun.

Thank you for sharing bruins. A day spent with Dad, on the course or off, should be a day to cherish. I too hope to play a round with my two boys some day. My 4 year old son loves to ride along in the cart and hit the occasional shot, but I think he enjoys the quality time spent with me. I keep telling my wife (jokingly) that I'm going to throw the newborn in the car seat so that he can join the two of us for a father/sons outing.

To answer your second question. My regular playing partner is a former colleague, who's now retired. I played a round with him last night and we both hit the ball with authority. I finished at 2 over par and he was just a few worse than that. We spent the majority of the round talking about his eldest son (who's only 7 years my junior) as he had just been married this past weekend. I attended the wedding and we all had a great evening. He told me how proud he was of both of his boys, credited his wife for her work as a mother, and lamented the fact that neither of his children were drawn to the game of golf. I felt blessed to spend the evening with him, on a wide open course, after a great day of work.

I'm livin' the dream.

Enjoy the moments. Congratulations on a round well played.

I think that I liked it better on meds, LMAO

Oh well, it'll grow back ;)

Have a nice evening :)

Fairways & Greens My Friend,
Richard

In the end, only three things matter~

How much that you loved...

How mightily that you lived...

How gracefully that you accepted both victory & defeat...

GHIN: Beefeater 24
