What's the most you would spend on a putter?

I spent 120 on a metal x 8 a few years ago brand new and thought that was high. So we'll go with 120 new. I bought my redwood anser 303ss for 100 used so we'll say that for used. Now the putter I've used the most and had the most success with is an old bullseye that i got for $4 at the goodwill. Found another just like it for $10 bucks at play it again last week and grabbed a ping pal with original shaft (disconnected, i guess the glue failed on the prior owner) for $5. And trust me they all perform exactly the same for me.

It's one of Cameron's "Garage and Grafiti" putters, meaning its guaranteed to have been worked on by Scotty himself and to my understanding is mostly for show.

My last driver(titleist 910 4 years ago) was $150 but after trades I think I paid around $40. I'm 30 and have played since I was 10 and bought my first brand new club 2 years ago, a 52* vokey bc my team won a tourney and I had clubhouse money to spend lol. There's a store here that sells used clubs that I used to frequent so every club I've ever owned(except the vokey) was essentially someone's hand me down that I got for no more than $50(except my iron set, $300 AP2's off ebay).

I know I got really lucky with the Newport. Wife's uncle is fairly well off, thus the collection of SC's, which I'd guess he paid around $300 for depending on where he got it. It's not custom. That comparison to the used car salesman's son is pretty much dead on for me lol. Between ebay, the used club store here, and my wife's uncle's garage; I'm not sure I'll buy off the rack again.

I have a Scotty Newport Beach Proto 1 of 500 from 2004, listed at $400, paid $167 after trade in on another Scotty.

Odyssey MXM #6 , Versa #6, V-Line Versa that top out at $300, $180, and $200. I have a Deschamps custom one off that was $360.

I had a Davis Love Special Edition Scotty...sold it after couple of months, wasn't going to game it...can't keep it and not game it.

If I knew a putter was truly going to improve my putting and was a perfect fit I would pay quite a bit. With that being said I cannot get rid of my odyssey pro-type 9 I got for $60 brand new.

I can't imagine paying so much for a putter. If I buy expensive equipment, I buy it used and only at a low price. Why pay more for a putter than the entire rest of your set combined? Lol, I'd say maybe $150 max. Can't expect lower scores just because you dish out more $$$.

[/quote] Because half your round is played with a putter. And yes spending money on an expensive putter could definitely lower scores if your more confident. Not to mention being custom fit.

I guess I'm an exemption. I play well and have never had a custom fitting, lessons, nor had any worry regarding confidence of using a "high" or "low" end putter. Whatever works for the person putting is cool by me; I just personally can't justify spending a ton on clubs unless I play impeccably with them.

My 5 dollar Bullseye thinks otherwise. If someone can prove to me that Scotty Cameron stamping his name on an Anser justifies the price and that I'll magically become a better putter, I'm in. Until then I'd rather putt with a 1 iron than spend that kind of money.

I'm not saying that high dollar putters are inherently better. That would be foolish. But it is just as foolish to say that an expensive putter can't be worth the price. We can debate about anything in life like this. Why do people buy Mercedes when a 20 year old honda civic will get them from a to b? It's all personal preference and it seems that your bullseye works for you, that's great. It might not be that way for others.

And I haven't found a Scotty that impresses me enough to buy... So I'm by no means someone who buys something because of the name stamped on it.

if i really REALLY wanted a putter, I'm guessing I could go as high as ~$5500 which coincidentally, is the same price as the chanel purse my wife wants me to buy her. Two things have to happen though:

#1 I have to buy the wife the purse
#2 I need to be really drunk at the time because there's no way in hell I'd ever spend that much for a single club especially if I plan to use it

I'd pay a grand for one that was custom for me. Maybe more, if it were "perfect" to my liking.

Sans a hole-out, the putter is used for every hole. It's the most "personal" of any club in the bag. Why pay $400 for a driver, $350 for a shaft "upgrade" and think $1,000 for a putter as crazy?

I'd spend a $1.00 dollar more than the guy I'm bidding against if it's a putter I really want.

As a collector, I really don't have a limit on how much I will spend on a putter for the collection. If I feel it's a good deal and if it's a putter that I really want, then I'll pay for it.
As far as gamers are concerned, I hadn't spent more than 600.00 on my Byron (and most of my gamers are in the 150.00-400.00 range) until I recently picked up a lightly gamed Scotty 303 SSS Tour stick the other day. Been putting lights out with it, so I'd say so far it's been worth every penny.

Not much...all three of my current putters I got on the cheap and all are great...

My gamer NC milled #1 (black and gray still) was the only one I have paid full price on $200 at the time.

Just picked up a sub 30 model 40 for $40 new and it feels and putts great. Also picked up an metal x oddy to make a counter balance putter for $50 basically new from CPO. Both will give the gamer a run. Played with several expensive putters this weekend at the local store and just wasn't impressed enough to drop several hundred.
