uh, any wonder why we dont have one ladies and gents!!
Hmmmm, well that would seem to be that then ...

As an alternative to eBay and the BST on here, there is always the Buy Sale Trade section on Riley King's Persimmon Golf Today site ...

That was a rather succinct no. Oh well. Thx for the effort CP. Guess I will go ahead and post in WTB (with the "classic" filter on) what I'm looking for. Hope it doesn't interfere with the guy looking for a set of Ping S55's.

Yes I did have a bit of a chuckle myself at the notion of a "classic" set of Ping S55's ... :)

I doubt we have much sway on this site, seeing as we are a very small minority, plus there is very little chance of any of us spending any money on the site sponsors. Golfwrx is a business after all ...

It is what it is folks.

Thanks for trying to get it going, Charley.

BTW, as my Radials and Apex Edge Pros are gone now, last set to go are my FG-17s. I'll be putting them on the 'Bay on Wednesday, and would hope to get $40 plus shipping for them. That was what I hoped my Radials would get, and they made it to $50!

Edit: LOL, is that subtle enough?

Maybe the answer is to get Goodwill and Salvation Army stores to become advertisers. They could use as their slogan, "Buy your next set(s) of golf clubs from us and get change back from your $20!"

If a forum where created, every listing would be a $10 fee. Wanted to buy, For Sale, or For Trade. Otherwise, checking a box or two for free is the other alternative. If people want to pursue a separate non commercial based BST for classic clubs, that would be the stipulation.

For most sellers, a $10 listing fee for a separate Classic BST in this Sub-Forum would be prohibitive.

So maybe the compromise is to embrace the existing BST, but have a running thread in here ("Classic Club Listings in BST" ?) so that the poster can say "I've just listed XYZ and here is a link to my advert ... " ?

Hitting that "classic" filter does seem to eliminate most of the modern stuff to be fair ... though I guess we won't know if it is an effective media for selling classic gear unless someone actually bites the bullet and starts using it in earnest.

Now ... is anyone going to buy those Pings ? :)

I agree, a $10 listing is a non-starter (in most cases). Some thoughts:

Is coming out and posting in a thread that I have a BST situation a violation of the GolfWRX rules? Read thru the regs. in the BST forum and I'm still unclear on this. Maybe I'm missing something.

Utilizing the existing BST structure, is it possible to have a "sticky" for the singular purpose of notifying others that "x" was listed on BST. I have reservations that a "classic" posting would get lost in the clutter without some notification to like minded people.

Edit note: Re-reading this I note that Blade Junkie posted this idea one post up. Wanted to duly note that. And thinking about this further, this may be the best method to accomplish the task. Utilize the existing BST structure with a means to notify the community that there is a relevant listing.

Edit: I changed my mind on what I wanted to say here. Took some text down.

I think most of the classic listings come from folks from out forum, so a pinned thread with links is a great idea. Maybe two threads....one 'For Sale' and one for 'Want to Buy' with the links to the bst.

Yes, there is a filter for Classic clubs. No forum necessary.
Sorry, but that just doesn't work. Besides from everyone on the BST looking for six month (or week) old gear, not 60 year old gear....

a) There are currently two ads up when you filter for "classic" in the BST; one ad is for a $2500 set of Epons with Steelfibers, the other is for a $750 Scotty and a TEE FW wood with an Oban. Surely that doesn't count as working as designed.

b) There's something wrong with the coding. If I click on any of the ads that selecting "classic" filters out, then use my back button from within the ad, I get a form re-submission error--this is across all browsers, machines, and all OS's:

"This webpage requires data that you entered earlier in order to be properly displayed. You can send this data again, but by doing so you will repeat any action this page previously performed.

Reload this webpage
Press the reload button to resubmit the data needed to load the page.
Error code: ERR_CACHE_MISS"

Reloading the webpage brings me back to the main BST page, where I have to filter for "classic" again, so even if we all started using the main BST with the classic tag as suggested, there's still a functionality problem that needs to be addressed.

Secondly, the idea of a $10 fee per ad is just silly. Why hit us old fogies with that fee? All we have is clubs hardly anyone is interested in. Save that fee for the chronic abusers of the main BST. Really, how hard would it be for golfwrx to support this request? Why the resistance? What's the difficulty here? I have a barn full of classic clubs that'd I'd rather see someone else enjoying, that I'd be happy to let go very cheaply and the "classic" filter in the BST is pretty much unusable so I've never bothered posting an ad for classic clubs, so a great collection of clubs just sits there in the barn, year after year.

I don't think anyone here is asking for a whole new BST that's a clone of the existing BST. I can certainly see why you wouldn't want to open that can of worms, but as someone else said, two pinned threads here in the classics forum would be all it takes. What's the harm in that? I'd love to hear an explanation as to how this isn't worth doing. We're talking two pinned threads, both of which would generate a decent amount of clicks and page views for golfwrx (I know I'd click on every new posting every time I logged on).

I really don't understand the resistance to some sort of classic only BST forum/thread/whatever. This has come up several times over the years. Seems like golfwrx is missing a chance to be home to a thriving community of old timers with huge stashes of clubs they're ready to pass on to others, especially the younger generations who have discovered the joy that golfing with classic clubs can bring. The 'use the classic filter in the regular BST' is the only answer we get every time this comes up, and it's just not a good answer. There is no substantive discussion, or any rationale offered.

Seriously, I'm old enough that I don't want to have to worry about my family having to liquidate a barn full of golf equipment at some point down the road. My hoarding tendencies would embarrass me from beyond the grave. In the meantime, I don't want to deal with ebay and ebay buyers, the classic filter in the BST doesn't work--either in theory or practice--and I'd like a way to get all the great clubs I've spent 40+ years accumulating in the hands of youngsters who'd cherish and appreciate them like OldSchoolRocker or Froth for instance. IMO, it's a missed opportunity for the golfwrx community.

Anyhow, please add my name to a petition for some action on this matter.

Funnily enough, the one and only sticky in this forum specifically prohibits users of this forum from doing anything that resembles the buying, selling, or trading of gear within this forum.

http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/435959-just-a-heads-up/

"Just a reminder that any thread offering to buy, sell, or trade golf equipment, even the vintage equipment we specialize in in this forum, must be posted in one of the appropriate BST threads. At this time there is no except for vintage equipment transactions. While we may create a special vintage BST forum sometime in the future if traffic on this and the other Classic Golf Forums continues to grow, we must use the existing structures for BST and abide by the existing WRX policies regarding BST transactions."

Again, I have no idea what harm would be done by removing that sticky and replacing it with two new stickies, one for WTB, one for sale/trade.

Creating BST forums is not easy on boards of this size nor the oversight.

Separate forums means more work for moderators.

Little results as people want to see results in one forum and separate forums confuse listers. Duplication of posting is not allowed nor is advertising ones ads on the forums.

Traffic generally stays in that forum because of search results.

Lack of filter returns is from user participation. The expiring back button issue is browser specific.

Pinned threads circumvents BST rules and is impractical to moderate.

And no problem if it's 0 cost to a very small % of users. I have repurposed a defunct BST forum and made it live. WTB are still separate and will remain as is. All BST rules apply. No $10 fee at this time to post.

Also as a reminder that the BST is for personal use only. Dumping is not allowed.

The vast majority of people using the main BST to sell modern equipment will have zero interest in what we're doing in the classic forums, so little to no chance for confusion.

Sorry, not sure what exactly this means. Generally speaking, search results are not always a good/easy way to find things. Take Callaway's modern reuse of the classic Apex name for instance.

Also as a reminder that the BST is for personal use only. Dumping is not allowed.

Holy moly! You all are the best! http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/forum/220-classic-clubs-bst/

I've got to get back to work for a while, but I'll try to list some stuff tonight or tomorrow to get the ball rolling. And seriously, if you'd like a volunteer to look after it, you've got one.

Thanks!!!

All of which is apparently no problem at all if we pay $10 a listing ... :)

Please include a photo of the barn ... We're all dying to see how big it is :)

Charlottesville, Virginia. Bring a trailer, as they say.

Good, nice and far away, and across a border.

I mean, now that I have Aussie Blades and Eye 2s, what else could a guy want?

Except for some copper-faced Mac/TAs, or some more putters, or even another set of Aussie Blades, the early 80s ones with the all cap MAXFLI, or something Hogan that would actually work for me, or a Maxfli staff bag, or, or, or, or.......

Darn it.

Took the words out of my mouth Scooter. Thank goodness I'm in the Midwest and not within reasonable driving distance.

As far as the new BST goes, I have some individual clubs laying around and will be looking at the WTB section for folks looking to fill out some sets. I know I'll end up buying stuff that I don't really "need", but my wife just laughs when she sees a new box at the door....I've been pretty good lately, I'm overdue, LOL.

Thank you gxgolfer (Exalted Leader?) for coming up with a solution on this matter. Seems as though the restless masses have been placated.

This is exactly what I would like to do this off season, get rid of some odd and ends to those that may be looking for fills. Plus you never know what might show up on BST that may perk my interest.

Wished I lived near Charlottesville. Would love to spend a few hours rummaging thru a barn full of vintage golf clubs.

Laissez les bons temps rouler!
