Why not add Canada to the Ryder Cup?

Good Idea, Ha, ha.......I love Canada and the Canadians!! As far as I'm concerned, The USA and Canada are one country. (LOL) Really though, Canada is a beautiful country with friendly, talented people. Living in NY, most of my visits have been to Quebec for golf and great food. If only it didn't get so Brrrrrrr in the Winter......

I like the idea of "America", North and South, being part of the team. Based on the current border situation, why would it matter anyway? Former Canadien hockey players can play just as well as some of the current US golfers. A few hip checks issued here and there would make the competition much more enjoyable for the Television coverage. It would almost be like a new HAPPY GILMORE movie every 2 years!

I'd like to see a more global event, the Ryder Cup is great but so many players are excluded. The presidents cup is dumb and the Internationals don't care and neither do their own fans.

If they did a regional thing, teaming Canada and the US would make sense

Give the US Canada, South America and the Pacific Rim...Europe can have Austalia New Zealand and South Africa
[/quote]

lol seriously? You give Australia and South Africa to Europe and the USA may never win a point again.

I actually like that idea -- their continent vs ours -- but there's going to be some USA pride that we don't need any help. :)

Do some of you Canadians really think we don't like you, though? You guys are great neighbors!

We know for sure that there is a percentage of Americans that do not like Canadians, why ? no idea. We are neighbors, we have your back in battle. We both have paved roads, both countries have the same love for pretty much everything. (FOOTBALL, HOCKEY, GOLF, COMPETITION).

I'm surprised they weren't included in the Pres cup team rather than in the rest of world team

I personally have never heard any American say anything derogatory about Canada or the Canadian people. Never! Quite the opposite actually, the comments that you hear are always positive.

I work with the US every single day and travel there often. I've been to every major city in the US, i've never really had negative experiences with people not liking Canadians. I've had negative experiences with being in the wrong part of St-Louis as night LOL, but that had nothing to do with being Canadian

Generally we all get along i think

What was funny was when i visited a company who did some military contracting and i wasn't allowed in because i was a foreigner. I hadn't even considered...i don't even consider myself a foreigner in the US!

2. Anyone in Ireland
3. The entire country of Canada

You know what you guys are missing out on? Cuba

Those guys are some of the nicest people in the world, tourism is so important to them that tourists are like royalty. You get some beggers and stuff in Havana but it's nothing like other places. It's very very safe around the resorts. Almost all tourists are Canadians and Germans

Let's just say that US travel to Cuba has not been an easy thing. Just saying "if someone flew to Toronto" in the late 90's stayed overnight and "if they traveled to Cuba to bass fish the next day" and "if then they flew back to Toronto" stayed overnight and then flew back to the US and forgot to maybe take a band off a cigar, they should not be detained because they had a round trip ticket from the US to Toronto and who's to say where they went for those 5 days in between.

Just saying if...

There must be reasons not to like Canada. One time I had a CFL team -2.5 and up by 3 it gave up a rouge in the final seconds to win by 2. That can't be forgiven. Another time in Quebec I bought gas at a mom and pop station and the kid tried to screw me over through the language barrier by pointing at the number of liters and claiming it was the price in Canadian dollars. Not until I laughed and started to call the Canadian police did he back away. I told him I dealt with con men in Las Vegas every day who made him look like Cinderella. But imagine how many tourists he successfully pulled that on.

Anyway, if Kevin Martin is not available I'm willing to settle for Cheryl Bernard. Of course, she has a tendency to choke down the stretch. She can pick the first 9 singles matches but nothing beyond that.

How about a continents cup, limit it to 6 a team so the weaker continents don't get done by depth and so it doesn't take forever.

According to WGR:

North America: Furyk, Watson, Fowler, Kuchar, Mickelson, Spieth (sorry Canada)

South America: Cabrera, Zanotti, Villegas, Ortiz, Aguilar, Grillo

Australasia: Scott, Day, Leishman, Senden, Jones, Ogilvy

Africa: Schwartzel, Els, Oosthuizen, Sterne, Clark, Coetzee

Asia: Jaidee, Choi, Matsuyama, Owa, Ishikawa, Lahiri

Europe: McIlroy, Garcia, Stenson, Rose, Kaymer, McDowell.

---

Europe and North America are seeds get through automatically to semi-finals.

Australasia vs South America. Asia vs Africa. On Friday

Winners of match 1 face Europe.
Winners of match 2 face US. On Saturday

Championship match on Sunday.

All matches are 1 round of singles, 1 round of foursomes.

how many legit candidates have there been over the years?

None. And if we want to go on history of greatest players of all time, there isn't even a European who could crack top 10 (of which almost all would be Yanks).

The Ryder Cup is fine. We've had more than enough players to have won more than 8 of 10, but it's just a matter of luck, better play and so on. Even this year the Americans' world rank was stronger than the Europeans.

At which Ryder Cup would those 10 have played together as the best team the US could throw out there for that specific competition?

I love Canada. I love hockey even more. The Ryder Cup comes way too close to interfering with the NHL preseason games. I'd never inflict that on Canada or getting your a** handed to you every two years by the Euros.

This would actually become a topic under the unlikely combination of continued European dominance of the Ryder Cup along with Canada sustaining 2-4 highly ranked players.

I should have mentioned that the gas anecdote was from the late '80s when the liter price was far less than a dollar. It was something like 50 liters and 15 Canadian dollars but the crook tried to charge me $50 Canadian.

That sucks, I live in New Brunswick the province beside Quebec and for most Maritimers (New Brunsick, Nova Scotia, PEI, Newfoundland) if there was a bridge that went over top of Quebec most Maritime people would take it. They are very difficult to deal with and if you do not speak french you really need to be careful. There are definitely some great people there but the negative in the province far out ways the good ones.

It's pretty cool that we have had a basically great relationship with our friends In Canada over many years. Let's say they join us - the weather could be an issue as they would probably be required to host every once in awhile.

Look at this: I live in metro Minneapolis. Hazeltine hosts in 2016. At my course a couple of weeks ago we had frost delays on a few days. Then last weekend it was about 80 degrees Friday - Sunday with lows around 60.

Forecast for this Friday: high of 50 and 20-25mph winds, Sat = 50 for high. Sunday = 54. Lows those 3 days 34-37.

Is this a home course advantage? Is this good entertainment?

You can look at the "averages" (which are 67/47) all you want - but it rarely seems to be average around here. Hope they get lucky.

I'm for making it North America but no time soon. IMHO it needs to get much worse to warrant that type of adjustment. I know the Euro's are killing us but I just don't feel like this is the right time

Just like the US let the rest of Europe help out the UK, mayber the rest of the 'colonies' can join in and help out the US.

i like this idea....we get austrailia , south Africa, india, Canada and Europe gets mexico? sounds fair!

As long as we get all of Latin America, I actually wouldn't be worried at all.

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

If Canadian and Mexican golf develop to the point that there are standout players North America Vs Europe would be a great competition, but it would take the influence of an individual like Jack to make that change... Not that the Ryder Cup is going to become obsolete any time soon.
