Finally ---- Scratch.

has taken a very long time (been playing since i was 6) - but in this latest revision i finally got to scratch.

 

now the quest for + numbers...

[/quote] thanks!!! if it makes you feel better, i was a 7 2 years ago. this game once you get to lower numbers hits plateus...obv different for everyone but, i hit one at 6/7...then one at 3/4....now i'm scratch hoping i don't have one here and can move lower.

I hit a few plateus along the way so just keep grindin it out. the strokes will come off. key to this game no matter what is knowing you can take on the shot at hand and get it done. keep workin, never settle, grind.

Yeah I know what you mean. I've been pretty consistent and had plenty of opportunities and chances to get lower and have shot some great rounds but I let a few bad shots blow up my round and then never recover and end up shooting 88. Played 9 yesterday and got just about every fairway and green and still shot 3 over with a birdie. But I can go out and miss every fairway and green and shoot 78. It's a tricky game but I love it.

[/quote]Well it is a crazy game and I will give you some hope by stating they dont draw any pictures on a score card. when I played my best golf back in the day I did not hit a lot of fairways or greens but I could get out of a jam and had an excellent short game. My dad who was a pro was an all greens and fairways man and he hated my style. I say do your own thing play to your strengths dont let your weaknesses get you down work on your weaknesses but dont dwell on them. Believe in yourself and your style and build from there

Very nice. It's on my bucket list too. I've dropped 10 strokes in the past 5+ years (retired) and I'm now stuck on 4-5.

Short game is the key that's for sure.

What got you through the plateau?

An honest assesment of myself would say putting is my biggest weakness. I hit an abnormally high amount of greens (IMO) in comparison to people I play with of a similiar level, but struggle with the short stick.

It is dropping though.

things that got me through that plateau (and still continue to help me shoot lower) -

1) realize you're going to make bogeys...but trust that you WILL make birdies.
2) never 3 putting. ever.
3) realize that par 5's are much easier when you play them as 3-shot holes, even if you hit the ball 300y. hit it close with a wedge, make your birdie and move on.
4) thinking/plotting around the course stroke by stroke and eliminating the mental calculator for total score
5) hitting the fat part of the green can/will result in birdies...most courses aren't set up with tucked pins on every hole. hit the fat, make the putt.
6) if you're in any trouble...hit out and try to one putt for a par, if not, accept a bogey (see #1)
