Equipment you wish you had bought.

Do you all have equipment that, for whatever reason, you wanted but somehow never ended up buying? I have two that I still look for and wonder whether to buy:

- Callaway Diablo forged irons. At the time I was gaming some Ping i5s and somehow could never make the change. I saw some in our pro shop reduced when they were stopped. Thought about it for a day and when I went back they were gone. I never got round to buying them after that.

- Cleveland TA 7 irons. Lusted after these at the time but was too much of a Callaway fan boy then to buy the brand. My wife then bought some with ladies shafts and even now I look at them with envy. I don't think that many sold so used sets in good condition rarely seem to appear.

 

What are your big missed buys?

Now that is a manufacturer I could have added to my list as well. They had a few irons that I loved. Needless to say my wife gamed some in the late 90s and they were great.

it's not a crazy one, but i wish i'd bought a 17 degree G20 hybrid and put a C taper in it. I have a 20 degree but i think a 17 would have been more versatile. Theres still some floating around

I might put a steel shaft in my Xhot Pro hybrid, i don't really need the distance with that club

Although I'm extremely happy with what I have now. Back when I bought my DCI 990 set. A few weeks after a guy I know was selling his AP2 710s for $200. At the time didn't know anything about them and I just purchased a set of irons. Also had "some" sort of upgraded shafts on them. Should have bought them just because :/

Instead I walked out with an "Almost New" Bullseye putter.

At the time I remeber justifying the purchase to myself by saying it's only 15.00 more to get a new putter as opposed to an older putter that no longer even had its original finish!

At the time I had no idea what Patina was. Or that being manufactured in Scottsdale versus Phoenix would ever matter. WRX and the Internet weren't around! Nor were fax machines, cell phones, printers, well you get the idea

I'm originally from Shreveport, and Edwin Watts was the main retail store during my high school years. I had always been a fan of Ping equipment, especially their putters. There was a Ping JAS Anser in the display box, but $399.99 was a little steep for high school Gresham. I had enough saved, but wasn't ready to drop it on a single putter just yet. I do wish I would have now though, looking back.

Several years ago I bought a DFX 6600 and eventually putted pretty well with it, but I decided on the DFX over a Tour Edge Code Red because of the name. Everything about the Code Red was superior to my eyes and ears and worse yet, I putted better with it but still bought the Odyssey. I still search the bay once in a while, just in case I find one in good shape and I haven't found another yet.

During the original incarnation of 2nd Swing, I'd peruse their stores for old school blades. Picked up a fair number of interesting sticks that way.

One day, I stopped at the one shop and saw a set of MacGregor Muirfield 20ths in a wall rack, priced at $69. I was sorely tempted, didn't buy, figured I'd get them the next visit. They were gone by then. Ugh.

But the winner of the Grand Prize.... is related to my Ram fixation. At another of the 2nd Swing locations one night, I came across a set of TW282 Golden Rams. In rather decent shape, no less. And I passed them by, idiot that I was. They are rarer than rare. I have a set of the TW276s, a set of TW282s would really flesh out the collection.

Such is life.

The seller asked too much for me at the time but I never find another like that at this price. I should have pull the trigger (I had to invest in lie angle and grip but I end up buying another putter for about the same)

If you keep your radar up on ebay you can find most anything. Including low mileage, mint, or even new (older) clubs for great prices.

I recently picked up a set of Mizuno MX-25's in mint condition, and a set of MX-23 that had seen one round. I'm a sucker for clubs in good condition and prefer the battle scars are mine.

At any rate, don't feel bad about the fish that got away. Go fishing!

When i went back the next day, of course they were gone.

Not really but I totally regret selling my Razr X Musclebacks. All in all I lost $50 bucks but man I wish I'd have kept them once I learned that shafts make a difference. And I, unlike plenty of people on this site, have come to grips that I am not a Stiff shaft guy

I think the list of clubs I wish I had [u]never[/u] bought would be at least 10 times the size of this list.

I do wish I had bought my current Xhot 3w a year ago instead of wasting last summer trying to adapt to playing far too upright 3w from different OEMs.

I somewhat regret not buying an Anser hybrid this fall when they were being cleared out for cheap price at my course.

I sort of regret getting the TaylorMade 3hybrid I am using over the Callaway XHot Pro version that was $40 cheaper and about the same distance control. The one thing the Cally did a bit better was directional (both draw and fade vs "straight ball" only TM), but I can always get one later... or a newer model if desired... or the new Utility Iron.

Too many to list. When I was first starting to play in high school (seems like 100 years ago) I would anxiously wait for the club companies catalogs or whatever they are called to come out. Of course I was too poor to buy anything but it was soooooo cool to look.

Now that I can basically afford almost anything I would want clubs come out avery five minutes so the excitement just isn't the same.

Taylormade burner bubble(thought the shaft bubble was cool for some reason)

For me... It was wedges.

Scratch 8260- 53 & 58 degree wedges. New @ $30 each.

Bridgestone J40 - 52 & 58 degree black oxide wedges. New @ 55 each.

Each time I kept saying, you don't need wedges. Something better will come up... I know, I was trippin. Should of jumped on both deals...

My old pro (recently passed away) was an amazing man. He played on the PGA tour briefly back in hogans heyday. He actually new hogan well. His best friend was Evil Kenevil. This guy had stories that would make you drool yourself. Anyway he collected macgregor, hogan, and anything else that was awesome. He had close to 100 sets of old classics most of which were mint or even new. Some of his old persimmons were out of this world. I wish I had just a few of the old sets he had. Stuff back then was truly artwork!! Seems like now most manufacturers pass around the same cookie cutter. God I wish I had some pics to show you fellas. His collection was one of a kind.
