I have never tried lighter weight in an iron shaft so I'm not sure if it would be a problem or not other than potential SW issues. I prefer at d3-d4 SW in my irons. Are the NV versions the green ones?
Yes the NV's are the green ones. e.g.

http://www.ebay.com/...=item3f3857207b

Static weight and swing weight are different. Lighter shaft weight doesn't automatically mean lighter SW. In fact, in my experience, most of these high end, lighter graphite shafts generally balance out to similar SW as the heavier steel options such as DG's would (I've worked with non-proto recoil 95,110, rip 90's, vs-proto 100's, nv 105's, SF i95's). The i110's are more an exception than the norm. Both are important and should be fit separately. Unfortunately, only way to determine suitability is to try them out and that can be difficult to do with the higher end graphite options. Not a lot of places to demo them. Many folks here have ended up buying a single shaft just to test out the various options.
Yes I'm aware static weight and swing weight are different. That would just have been my initial possible concern but good to know that in your experience you have found the lighter graphite shafts to balance out similar SW's compared to the heavier steel shafts.

I would not discount the AXE xcaliber your iron shaft; some reviews floating around and it may be what you are looking for. Unfortunately they're hard to demo. Have you considered the matrix program 120? That's another good offering but I am unfamiliar with their launch characteristics. Rip tour iron shaft is another viable option that won't hurt the wallet quite as much.
I just tried the Axe Xcalibur Tour X iron shaft in TS flex and it is going to launch a little higher, very similar to Recoil 110, so not really what you are looking for. I think for the money, you are looking at Aldila Tour 115 or Steelfiber 125 as your best bet.

From anyone who has had some experience with both(steel and graphite) in irons, after finding the right graphite shaft, can it compete with the steel strictly in terms of consistency and dispersion?

If you get the "right" graphite shaft for your swing - without any doubt!

consistency, accuracy, and thus dispersion has not been about material for a long time now. It's all about getting the shaft specs (most dominantly weight and bend profile - both from the stand point of trajectory control and feel for some) to match your particular swing's needs.

My shafts are very consistent and I feel have tighter dispersion than steel. .. The better feel is a major bonus

Issue I have now is my tour issue s400's in my 59 and 64 wedges feel clanky. ... Shopping around

You might already made your decision but I thought I will revive this topic a bit

As you I played for quite a long time the SPB X in my irons (still do have them in my back up set). After a few injuries and problem with my joints I knew I had to do a switch to graphite. The only options on my radar were the Steelfiber and the Recoil.
First Steelfiber - too harsh for me, no feeling, a telephone pole and still pain in my wristjoints.

So there was only the Recoil. I searched for a Proto 125X which I found and installed in my i20's. All I can say is wow. Feeling is quite comparable to the SPB, maybe a little bit more of a "loaded" feel. What I saw in flight and and numbers on the flightscope was that the launch and distance with the shorter irons stayed the same, but maybe a touch less spin (200rpms if I remember correctly). For the longer irons I had definitly a higher launch with a touch more spin (300rpms) and gained a few metres.

But now the most suprising thing is consistency. Shots and distances are a lot more consistent. They do what I want - point and shoot. Maybe the ability to train more because I have no pain in my wrist helps a lot too.

I can highly recommend a switch to the Recoils. Not only my pain is away, my game improved a lot, as my confidence did!

I switched from dg x100 to steel fiber i125s, now have been playing aldila nv105 x for the past 2-3 years in order to relieve some writst/elbow pain.

The steel fibers launched a bit higher and spun a bit more than the x100s. nv105 x seems to play fairly similar to the x100s from what i remember. they're the best iron shaft i've tried to date. consistency and dispersion is excellent.

I also still really like the "classic" aldila iron shafts. In my case it's the vs-proto iron shafts instead of the NV. The newer shafts are certainly nice and solid options (SF, recoils, rips) but for me, they really are not noticeably better in performance or feel than what I've already have been playing.

For me, as a lefty who golfs righty, my lead arm in the swing is under stress more just overall, and the range about a year ago was my last straw for keeping with all steel.

I got severe tennis elbow, and had golfer's elbow several years before. It took physical therapy and no golf for almost 4 mos., plus I dropped a notch in shaft weights then to rid of it the first episode of the golfer's elbow. I went from 127g down into the 113-115g.

This past year after the tennis elbow, I avoided PT with some self rehab, but changed out one set of irons into graphite for range use mainly into graphite. I went from the 113g TT DG Dynalites R300 to a Recoil 110 F4 SSx1. Just a fantastic result.

I see virtually no difference in ball flights or distances, and fat hit here and there doesn't ring my bell so much. I installed them label down, they actually kinda look steelesque. The difference in wt. is not felt with mine, perhaps contributing. And, as I already used the R flex in the DL shaft, I think I matched up specs pretty well. If you do reshaft, choose wisely for a ferrule which matches best the taper of the new shaft and the head on your irons. Mine were a tad off - only hardcore WRX types would notice! :D

Thanks for all the input guys. I haven't got with anything yet but i'm glad this topic is revived. From anyone who has played the recoil and recoil proto. Is there a noticeable difference?

yes there is definitly a difference. I'm playing the normal ones in my wedges and the protos in my irons.
The normal ones are a little bit more "loose" but not too much - a fantastic feel in my opinion. Furthermore they tend to spin a bit more - that's why I installed them in my wedges. For me it is the perfect graphite wedge shaft.
