I agree with everything that's been written about the G25 (being a unicorn), and yet I'm about to go check out the BST for the G30s hammergolf just listed!

After 20+ years of trying Mizuno, Callaway, et al blades, CB’s etc I  gave up and have played PING  G’s exclusively for the last 5 years. Getting too old to experiment with the pretty new stuff now. (Viagra won’t help). The G’s work fine.

I played some SIM golf today with my newly acquired G30 irons. It’s safe to say they work as advertised and then some. Amazing set of irons.

I tend to agree. And in my opinion none of the G series after the G30's have as good of sound or feel.

Well Costco did copy their irons, but there was no need for a lawsuit. I play Taylormade as they were the best irons in my fitting by far. Same for my dad, the qi10 were much better than the g430 irons for him - he’d played pings for 20 years prior to the taylormades so he’s been a loyalist too.

 

I still have two ping clubs in the bag and I have considered replacing my driver and 3 wood with pings too. I’ll always love ping clubs.

The CP2 wraps ?  Sure, Ping will install those but they are an upcharge option ($10-ish per grip) to have Ping install them.  But I had a set of CP2 Wraps at home so I ordered them with stock Tour Velvet grips and had Ping just put them loose in the box.  When then they came in, I installed the CP2 Wraps myself.   This way I didn't have to remove the stock grips and tape etc.

 

You may already know this but in case not or if others wanted to know, If you go onto any online retailer and choose the G440's and click "customize" it will show all of the shafts and grips available that Ping offers in their matrix.  Definitely check multiple retailers though as some have more or less options and some charge different amounts.

 

I asked my local store how Ping pricing works and he showed me their system.

Essentially their Ping ordering page shows the shops cost, the suggested retail price for each custom shaft and grip.  So for example, the CP2 wrap grip.  I believe their cost was something like $7-$8 per grip and then they suggested $13 be charged to the customer as an upcharge.  He said that some online retailers don't make any money off of the upcharge shafts and grips and will just pass the $7-$8 cost onto the customer.  Ping recommended they charge me $13 per grip.  The store said they would meet me in the middle at $10 per grip but since I already had CP2s I just took the stock grip option.

Many moons ago, when ordering a new set of G25's, my shop offered to order them with KBS Tour shafts at no up charge.  I questioned this, expressing that I didn't want them to get into trouble with Ping, and the shop owner told me that while Ping holds the shops to strict price controls on the set, "upgrades" don't fall under that control.

G440s look like the best G series in terms of looks since the G25s. Although I have since moved on from the G's, I always recommend this series to any newcomer to the game. Maybe I'll come back to it some day when my game recedes.

I'm late to the party as I am just getting back into playing after a series of injuries that includes a fused left wrist, and a arthritic right wrist and some nerve damage in my right hand.

Rockin the G30 irons in White dot, +0.75" CFS Distance Stiff. These shafts are all wrong for me now, as I am about two clubs shorter than previous. Looking at going into the Recoil 95 F3. I know a few of y'all think highly of those shafts. Still debating doing it myself or letting Galaxy or PGATourSS do it.

Bag is set for the upcoming season. Love the look of the new g440 irons but I think I'll stick with the rebuilt G25's

Okay, Nessism has talked me into giving the reshaft a go on my own. I have tinkered with clubs in the past, so I am not overly intimidated. I have ordered up the set of Recoil 95s F3 from ebay. Will be installing those in my G30s at 1/4" longer than the existing CFS Distance. I ordered the 9-shaft set thinking I may soft-step them once. I'll keep the group informed as I get all the supplies and pull the trigger on the work. Glad to participate and be a G-Man!

Brain, yours seems like a very smart and good set-up, and I particularly liked that you went the Lee Westwood route and use the iron set's UW and SW. I often wish I'd gotten a set of g25s that went all the way to SW. I got too influenced by folks years ago saying the Lee was not good with his wedges and around the green. Sure, maybe compared to his long game the short game was not his strength, but there's no way you can be so successful and win so much at the very highest level over so many years by being a poor wedge player -- and if that set up is good enough for Lee, it obviously would serve me well too. Ego and vanity told me to go Vokey!

PeterJP, I decided to add a SW to my new-to-me G25 4-UW set. The U and S are working as well or better than previous third party or Ping wedges. .

 

Having the same shaft as the other irons may explain it, with the bounce and sole width helping out. 

 

I may track down a LW to see how that works.

Thanks! If I can come across a LW that's in good condition I might add that too. I just want to hit my irons a certain distance and I found out a long time ago that when I try to get too fancy, bad things usually happen. 😅

Leekg - I think you're right about what might explain it. I think I'd also find that the swing-weight transition from 9-PW to UW-SW would  likely be a bit 'smoother', i.e., less abrupt. If a set of stock ping irons are, say, D1s, it's a big jump up to a 3rd party gap wedge/sw at D4 or D5.

As discussed recently by others I just procured a G25 LW. I found it at an online seller and while it was missing the weight, was in decent condition with the same shaft as my iron set. I contacted Ping about sourcing the missing weight and was informed that they do not sell the weights to individuals but would replace it free of charge with shipping both ways - free, at their Phoenix location. How's that for service?

 

After remembering other member's impressive refinishing results I decided to pay the $20 fee and start with a "new" club. 

 

I continue to be impressed with Ping's customer service. I may be putter shopping soon and will make a point to prioritize Ping. Most importantly, their clubs just plain work for me.
