Hydro pearl irons are chrome plated.  To properly refurbish chrome plated heads, the chrome must first be stripped, then the head polished, followed by applying fresh chrome.  As you might imagine, Ping doesn't do this.  I did see a thread here a couple years back where Ping agreed to media blast someones chrome plated clubs.  That sort of blends in the blemishes, and hides them a little.  It's nothing like what you see on braincramp52's G25's.  For those, Ping polishes out the dings dents and scratches, before lightly media blasting them.  The G25's are raw stainless, though, not chrome plated.

I know a lot of people don't like the hydro pearl finish it's a great finish. Yes they get marked up easier than the older finishes do but all you have to do is shine them up once in a while with a fine or very fine abrasive hand pad and the marks are gone.

I play blueprints right now with retro lofts, I love them and have no complaints when the weather is nice. I’m looking for Gs mainly for winter golf or soggy golf. I see g25 and g30s are your consensus winners. I like them too since they’re more in line with the higher lofts I prefer and they can be refinished by ping. 

 

I’ve been looking for awhile but haven’t had much luck getting a set make-up I want for a decent price. One day I’ll find some but I’m afraid you guys have driven up their market value😂

I’m very likely going to be posting a set of g410’s and possibly i230’s both 5-uw in the near future in the bst. Checking with a few local buddies before I do it but I can keep you in mind if/when I do and send you a tag.

The LW sets are always the trickiest to find, and have been for a while. You kind of have to jump on one with the right length when you see it, even if means sending it to Ping to get refinished and the dot color adjusted.

Regular flex - 7 iron swing speed = 78mph - 81pmh (I know - I'll have to have in my WRX card😂). Have been playing Elevate MPH 95 S steel and Modus 105 S prior to that. Fancied a change and wanted to try graphite liked Recoil and Alta but the Alta CB just felt a little better to me personally.

Wanted (and needed) something that was easier to elevate and easier on the old bones etc. Alta worked well in all respects for me. Interestingly, dispersion on Trackman was very tight which I liked - both left to right and length.

Will report back in due course - just had one range session today.

 

Wanted to achieve higher ball flight and tighter dispersion = achieved 👍

 

The SW looks good to my eye - very much like the Eye 2 of old - from the mats nice flight and I don't think there will be any issues using it from the sand or indeed for lob shots (I now stop at the 56 because last season I rarely used my old  58 degree LW and relied mostly on my 54)

 

It will be a week or two before I can get out on the course.

Managed to get out for 10 holes today - early impressions are that the irons are quite an improvement over my previous set. Some winter greens and mats so not a complete "on course" review.

 

Higher flight (which I needed) and about club longer (loft for loft within 0.5 - 1 degrees stronger) so I'm happy (or just in the honeymoon period 😆) very straight and forgiving for me.

 

One bunker but the SW got me out without any drama - it looks good.

 

@pbr2121 with regard to feel - they were solid. I think a couple of YT reviewers have used the phrase "solid and responsive" - that echos my experience. They're not forged by a 6th generation master samurai sword maker at the foot of Mount Fuji but I really like the feel personally.

Currently 15.3 - got as low as 7 (in the previous system and pre covid) with G25s then obviously sold them 'cos I was a player....

 

Old age, arthritis and realisation have now set in😆 Dropped 4 shots over the 10 today but that was the driver still cold from months of hibernation....

 

I'm expecting to reduce the handicap this season but we'll see👍

Curious if anyone is still playing G5 irons? I found a decent used set at place I have shop credit for a great deal. 
 

I also demoed g440 irons and they are super tempting. 
 

I’m determined to become a G man, I don’t play nearly enough to justify keeping my blueprint blades anymore. Especially since my local courses are more often soggy than not. I need that G sole.

I'm not playing them but if you find a good deal on them they were still a good iron. I doubt if my handicap would change even if I went back all the way to the G2's.

The look and results(trajectory, spin, dispersion, etc) of our shots would probably not be much different either once you accounted for the stronger lofts and increased club length(which gets lost in all the loft jacking discussion).
